  1. Just a thought for someone involved in Dogs Vic to maybe take back to them. To get the neuter classes up and running they really need to get behind it, promote it to the clubs and maybe offer to waive the fees/costs/levies for this class untill they are up and running.
  2. At the Pug club we have advertising sponsors. They sponsor for $100 a year for both our Open and Champ Show. For that they get a 1/2 page add in our catalogue and their Company name on the sash and trophy (they Sponsor a Class in Show). They also have a smaller add in our Club Newsletter in the issue after the show with a pic of the winning dog. It works out a cheap way of advertising and really helps cover the cost of our sashes and trophies. Also we encourage our exhibitors to Donate a sash or trohy and they have their kennel name or "In Memory of..." printed on the sash or trophy.
  3. We had the Neuter class at our Pug Specialty this year. We have always had it but this is the first time the N CH classes were offerd. We had 5 entries. So the winner gained 10 points. We also presented Challenge aned Reserve Challenge Rosettes and Best and Reserve Neuter Sashes. Cost outweighed the entries but well worth it.
  4. I probably didn't make my thoughts clear. My suggestion for the Champion Class was that it was for Ch to compete against other Ch for their Gr Ch title. The class is "semi- optional", that is you don't have to enter if your dog is young (?? years), giving a young titled dog time to mature. Once they reach a certain age or ammount of points they have to move into the CH class. They don't compete for BOB so there is no" I'll put the CH up to be safe" I am one of these people who actually put more consideration into how dogs perform at Breed Specialty Shows under Breed Specialists. Being "on the Pegs" at the Breed Specialty, consistently over a number of years, under a number of breed specialists is probably a better indication of a dogs quality than the number of CH points they have.
  5. How about we have an optional "Champion Class" Once you are titled you can decide if you want to enter it. This would be a class for people aiming to obtain Grand Champion Status. Ch Dog V Ch bitch for Ch of Breed. This winner to compete for Ch in Group with points awarded accordingly. These points accrue towards Gr Ch Title Obviously the finer details would need to be hashed over, eg if there are Breed points ect./ age requirements. Then if you have a dog that titles young, you can still opt to show in the normal classes as your dog matures. Maybe there is an automatic upgrade if you dog reaches a certain amount of points. So to obtain your Ch title you would/could still be competing against titled dogs. This would also possibly keep titled dogs competing a bit longer. For instance I have/show a Black pug boy. He is titled with mostly 20-25 point BOB's (and mostly from Breed Specialists). I have no desire to try for Grand Ch but I don't want to take him out of the ring yet because there are not enough Black Pugs in the ring. How many people take their dogs out after they have titiled? Here are some interesting figures. At our Ch show on the weekend we had 165 entries (30 Babies) We had a 20 dog Open Dog Class 15 Ch and 1 GrCh. Open bitch 8 bitches - 4 Ch and 4 Gr Ch 47 titled dogs overall 2 of them black from all over Australia. Not an easy breed to get a title in
  6. Hope you have a great day. We had a terrific day with 165 pugs. Mr Bosch was very thorough and very good with the dogs.
  7. I am "Puglvr" obviously. There is a lot of pug plates out there.
  8. We had a little pug girl named Pockets who had (we think) Cereballar Hypoplasia (sp?) She stopped growing like the other pups at 4 weeks. The vet then thought she had some nuerological problem. We kept little Pockets and she lived a very full happy healthy life until she was 7 1/2 when she died due to complications from an infection. She was very much like a child with CP (I work with disabled kids). Her tremors went away as she grew older. If there was something she wanted to do she would figure out a way to do it. She was very special and very muched loved. Just like your little girl.
  9. My GSD gril had it and was so extremely ill her lung actually collapsed. She went to werribee and they actually thought they would have to remove part of the lung. But.... they took a sample biopsy and grew a culture of the "bugs" and then put her on specific antibiotics. she spent about a week in intensive care 24 hr supervision with oxygen. She came home with AB's and physio instructions and steam tents 3 times daily. When she went back for her follow up visit the vet had all these students there ready to see the really sick GSD and could not get over how well she had recovered. Previous to this she had been sick on and off for 3 months. It was obviously the pnuemonia brewing but she would be on AB's for two weeks and come good and then when she was off them the pnuemonia would take hold agaain. After she fully recovered she was fine and never had a relapse and actually competed in obedience and agility.
  10. Yes, she's been swabbed, prog tested, his sperms been checked all by repro specialists. All good - just no pups. I was thinking that they just don't "click". It is interesting though that one of the inbetween litters was from her daughter.
  11. Excuse me, but Pugs are not bred deformed. They are no more deformed than any other "man made breed"
  12. I have a girl who has already had 2 litters both from natural matings. 7 pups each litter. Her last 2 attempts at getting in pup have been with the same dog. She has been prog tested and mated/AI 48 hours after ovulation each time. So far she has not concieved with this boy but he has in between times got other bitches in whelp. Do you think that they are just not compatible and if I try again I should go with another dog?
  13. I have a boy who had a couple of natural matings his first times but then had AI's due to difficult maiden bitches. Now he appears to be "lazy" when it comes to mating. He is quite keen when the girl is bought to him and goes through all the right motions, but just seems to be waiting for the vet to "give him a hand " so to speak. Is there anything you can suggest to help get him back on track. I would really love for him to start natural matings again. Also I would like to freeze my other boys semen, but I'm worried that this might happen with him too - although he has had a number of natural matings.
  14. I have two Dyson's. One for in the house- you beaut model with power head ect. and one for the dog room that has a special waterproofed floor so only need the flat surface attachment. But don't forget to clean the filter's every 6 months.
  15. We have our Veterans Parade at the beginning of the day. It is "officiated" over by our "Emergency Judge" Each Veteran has a write up in our catalogue, is presented with a medallion and a sausage. It is celebrated as a way of seeing a Living Pedigree.
  16. Yes, definitely a "Hug of Pugs" or a "Pile of Pugs" (because they do pile, I've had 9 on one bed) I like to think of mine as a "Love " of Pugs but....... when most people meet my 12 for the first ime it's........."Oh My God......."
  17. I don't know? I have 13 dogs live on a farm and haven't had a problem with fleas at all. I don't even think I have treated my dogs this summer and I do use Frontline and that's all I've ever used.
  18. Herm Sprenger is another brand of chains, all sorts. I have a snak chain for one of my pugs and martingale chains for the others.
  19. And of course a little thank you to the PCV for bringing Mr Bosch out and agreeing to sub contract him for the smaller breed clubs He sure is going to be a busy man.
  20. I hope I have the same/similar success with my fresh AI they did about 3 weeks ago. Fingers Crossed I'm waiting to get my boy's sperm frozen and they need half a day set aside just to do it.
  21. My boy required surgery on his eye at a specialist clinic. It took all of 15 minutes however he would not come around from the anesthetic, so after consulting me they transferred him to the Specialist Centre where they put him on an intubator. Unfortunately he did not make it. The eye surgery cost $1200 and the cost for the Specialist Centre was $1500 up to 24 hours. I was never billed for the eye surgery and was only asked to pay $900 at the Specialist Centre. I hold these clinics in very high regard for their care and their compassion. I have a check book that is specifically for the dogs, any money from puppies goes in it, I save money to put in it, stud fees and our BAS returns fron the farm go in it.
