  1. To be fair they say there was a lot of "gift giving" and exchange of dogs amongst the Nobility of the day. The Temple Priests swapped Lhaso Apso and Shi Tzu puppies, which were interbred. And I would not be at all surprised if Japanese Chin were interbred with some lines of the Peke. The colouring and lack of coat being a clue to this possibility. Here is a portrait of Looty, one of the first Pekingese in Europe and owned by Queen Victoria. She was stolen from the Chinese Empress's summer palace during the Opium Wars. Japanese Chin were the descendants of Chinese Pekingese imported (or given as gifts) into Japan centuries ago. The clue is in the name "Chin" for China. It's likely that Tibetan Spaniels are similarly descended from Chinese Pekingese mixed with some local Tibetan dogs. All these dogs are sacred in lamaistic Buddhism and were exchanged from monastery to monastery. By the way here is a photograph of Looty for those not sure about paintings. Sorry this is OT, but Looty looks upset that she has been left behind when the others have all gone out for a fun time in the palace coach.
  2. Toy: a feral looking Yorkie with clipped short hair Small: if I can't have a Westie I have a Scottish terrier ❤ Medium: Wheaten terrier Large: Airedale Giant: Irish Wolf Hound
  3. I always seem to have poo bags stuffed in the pockets of my jacket/shorts or shoulder bag. I had to go to jury duty in Brisbane and they search your bag...the nice gentleman asked what dog I had
  4. http://qpsmedia.govspace.gov.au/2012/03/14/police-dog-bosun-clips-for-a-cure/ Police Dog Bosun clips for a cure March 14, 2012, 2:02 pm The Gold Coast’s favourite canine will tomorrow give it up for the Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave. PD Bosun, a six-year-old general duties and detector dog will be clipped to perfection during the annual fundraiser which raises vital funds for Leukaemia research. The clip comes just two weeks after Bosun’s part in an arrest saw him bitten on the front left leg by another dog, causing muscle trauma. The bite has forced Bosun to take rest for several weeks before he returns to operational duties so for now he is dedicating his time to charity work. PD Bosun will be accompanied by his handler Senior Constable Wayne Algie who is also participating in the World’s Greatest Shave.

  7. a little but the old bloke in the next street used to walk his two really old tiny JRT's,he would stop at the gate and have a chat and his dogs used to have a poo while they were waiting. I gave him a bag and from then on he used to take them but his wife kept giving him sandwich bags and his hands were so big he couldn't put them in the bag so just put in his fingers then had problems trying to grip the poo with fingertips I think his wife may have been having a go at him :-D
  8. I re-use the bags that you get on the big rolls at the fruit & vegie section of the supermarket, if I run short I use the plastic bags from the supermarket checkout (when I have forgotten my green bags)
  9. I get that impression as well. Also to compare old photos of dogs, not brushed or well presented to a stacked fully groomed show dog.....come on. The OES is a perfect example of that. OES do not walk around looking like they do normally in the show ring, that look takes hours upon hours to achieve. I agree Bjelkier, it would be interesting to see the dogs the earlier photos bathed and brushed. Regarding the background music, I wonder how much difference it would make us feel if it played music from Grease or Alice Cooper
  10. Hi Westiemum, can you get her checked for a UTI, Penny was doing much the same thing (but not on the bed) when we first got her, we needed to take her to the vet for some other problem...can't remember what, and was given AB's which must have also fixed her wee problem. She can hang on from 8.30 to 7.00 as I found out when I had the flu and we slept in. We also attached longer legs on the bed so they can't jump up on it during the day, made it more pleasant to get into as it didn't smell of three-westie-funk (aka stinkin' dogs)

  15. Maybe they asked the owner?? He was there after all. I dunno, he didn't seem to open for discussion when the reporter shoved a mic in his face asking if his dogs were dangerous  Yes he seemed to be gesticulating in an odd manner, perhaps it was the sign language for Arm-staff
  16. There is a pinned topic started by Bilbo Baggins on swimmer pups in the Breeders Community forum. I found it interesting as I had never heard of the problem before. Here it is--> http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/157516-swimmer-pups/

  22. I too am sorry to hear about your little dog, poor you and poor her. I hope you don't mind me writing this on loading a photo, especially as you are devastated about your little sweetie, but it will help you to know that others can see how lovely she is. If you load your photos into Picasa, you can edit (and name)them there and then click on the photo you want and that photo will appear down at the bottom of the page. Click on that photo (it'll then have a blue outline on it) and then click the 'Export' symbol, a little box will appear with 'Export to folder' on it... there is a 'Browse' dropdown box...choose 'desktop' then resize to around 450-500 pixels. Go to your DOL post and down the bottom of your reply page is a 'Browse' button, click this and choose 'Desktop', find your named photo and click 'open' then click the 'Attach this File' on your reply page...it should load, then click the little 'Add to Post' that will appear and the piccie should appear in your post. Just check by clicking the 'Preview post' option
