After the Qld Local Government elections means we have a (nearly) new council here. They will be discussing a new Animal Management plan and I would like to put forward some proposals on a fair plan for owners and Council (as they need to cover their costs) for the dog ownership part of the plan Some input would be great, I was thinking along the lines of: Free registration for desexed/microchipped dogs (Gympie has this) A fair cost for a third dog...perhaps a home check re size of dog(s)to area Provisions for fostering (I have no idea what would be involved...need ideas) Fair costs for breeders of registered pedigree dogs...this could be the numbers of dogs kept. Reduced registration for different levels of obedience/agility or similar As you see from the above I have very little idea, but as the previous Council appeared to be anti-dog (especially for registered breeders of pedigree dogs) I feel that a letter to the Mayor, CEO and councillors can only do some good in addressing the previous councils omissions. So if anyone has some good ideas on what you would like for a council to implement can you post them please...especially breeders and foster carers. Thanks :-)

I can't select any of the options. My dogs don't have access to food all day, they don't fuss to get food, affection is not demonstrated through treats, and they don't get table scraps. They get food as a routine and have to sit politely for it. Yes, that is the question that doesn't give enough options. There should have been a section for 'not many treats, just raw diet' or similar

Need Advice About Potentially Giving A Home To A Rescue
Boronia replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oi Westiemum...I am 60 and could run rings round those fat 20 year-olds I see pushing trolleys of chips, coke and biscuits at the local IGA  -
I feed raw and dry equally so answered dry but it did make me wonder if the researcher was in fact a dog owner. Yep, same here...no box to tick if you feed raw and the question about what type of feeding your dog only gives the options of treats. I didn't see a box on a healthy type treat like a bone or carrot or banana. It is a stupid questionnaire and made me cross :-D

Shar Pei - Tracking Down Previous Breeder
Boronia replied to selkii's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't know if these links will be of help but maybe you could contact the owners of the dogs featured and ask if they have the contact details for the Dahlet breeder. http://www.eliterolys.com/dog.asp?dog=5812 and scroll down to: Dam:AUST.GRAND.CH.Dahlet Minni Maus.Owned by: Stacey White. here: http://www.silkston2000.com/thepastsharpei.cfm may be a lead anyway :-) -

Some good piccies in the link. http://qpsmedia.govspace.gov.au/2012/05/23/yourservice-cairns-flying-dog-squad/ Cairns Dog Squad recently took to the skies in as part of their ongoing training. The squad familiarised the dogs with the EMQ helicopter to get them used to the noise and downdraft of rotors. The team perform ongoing training exercises in and around the Cairns area with other police and emergency services personnel to ensure skills are at an optimum level. Police Dogs Vader, Xander and Kasey and their handlers took to the new training like ducks to water and obviously enjoyed the new experience. The dogs are regularly trained in searches and tracking work and even rappelled off the Barron River Bridge recently.

It is good news that he is still with you K9. Lots of warmth and a full tum is more important at the moment (before he goes to the vet I mean) He looks a sweetie.

This is just so sad. RIP Webcke http://qpsmedia.govspace.gov.au/2012/05/11/death-of-police-dog-webcke-coomera/ It is with great sadness that the Queensland Police Service announces the passing of Police Dog Webcke following an illness. PD Webcke’s handler Sergeant Dave Sampson said PD Webcke was an outstanding police dog who had a high ability coupled with an attitude, drive and love for police work. “When I was handed Webcke at 11 months of age, I could never have imagined what he was going to achieve during the next five and a half years. I never took him for granted as I knew how blessed I was to have him. I thank the QPS and dog squad for allowing me to be associated with him.” Sergeant Dave Sampson said. PD Webcke suffered gastric torsion in March of this year and despite surgery and on-going veterinary care, he was unable to recover from complications and the sad decision was made to euthanize him. Sergeant Sampson and PD Webcke were an outstanding duo who formed a crime fighting partnership that was greatly appreciated by officers throughout the Coomera and Logan police districts and the Gold Coast in general. “His offender detection rate was always amongst the best in the state and I truly believe that I had not seen his best, as just when I thought I had, he amazed me again in some way. “My family and I are devastated by his passing and it will be some time before my household returns to normal.”

What Vets On Nsw Central Coast Titre Test?
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in General Dog Discussion
a little more info: I need to find out what vet uses the vaccicheck, the levels can be checked at the time in the surgery. No need to go to the additional expense of sending the sample to a lab. -
Fantastic! thanks for posting that Keshwar. I have been there, in my heyday I used to live in Dunedin and Timaru and the Wet West Coast

Does anyone know a vet on the NSW Central Coast who does antibody titre tests? I am finding out for a friend. Thanks

I looked up where to buy it so here is a link, I thought those bottles had pictures of spiders on them until I looked closer...must buy some computer spectacles I think http://www.shopbot.com.au/chlorella-powder/price/australia/315513 I don't think I'll buy any (yet) as I have Penny's skin problem under control but for itchy dogs it may be the go.
