  1. 2. Try these people--> http://www.petsitaus.com.au/ The sitters have to pass a dog/cat first aid course. The sitters are covered with Pet Sitters Australia own public liability insurance.
  3. an old DOL topic--> http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/98125-stupid-question-really/ and a (silly?) Lonely Planet forum--> http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1977591
  4. I was thinking that very thing Chezy & Chopper, it seemed odd that the dog would attack, from behind, and have a "glazed look". Poor man and his family and poor police officer having to shoot the dogs, how awful for her. RIP doggies.
  5. I give my lot flaxseed meal now, rather than the oil, much easier on the hip-pocket. if you buy just the whole flaxseeds you can grind them up in the coffee grinder. I keep the packet in the freezer to keep it fresh.
  6. There was a beautiful Labrador at the Ekka, he was a fire-ant sniffer-outerer. His handler said he could find just one fire-ant. Such lovely, useful, clever dogs
  7. You could try Colette at TLC Dogfood, she keeps it. She has a beautiful Cocker Spaniel called Willis http://tlcpetfood.com.au/ She used to deliver dog food to our dog Harry when we lived in Gympie. Harry loved her :laugh: edited to correct grammatical errors
  8. O Dear, after all the support that was given, it was to no avail. I am so sorry Emma, sometimes doing your best just doesn't work out. Thank you for the update and for the big decision regarding Ned. My condolences to you and all the people involved. RIP Ned. .
  9. If you have one dog that eats anything the others will eat what that dog is eating. When we first got Daisy she wouldn't eat any vegetables but soon changed her mind when the other two chomped into their slices of carrot, cucumber, banana or pumpkin. She was so scared of missing out! Wish they would stop eating those big fat strawberries in the garden though :laugh:
  10. Such good news lovemesideways! Naughty-naughty-bad-dogs, don't EVER do that to your mother again!
  11. My lot reckon carrots, lumps of pumpkin and cucumbers are yummy-crunchy-noms. and it is easy to find their poo as it has these little orange bits and cucumber seeds, so easy to see in the grass :-D
  12. is this what you were looking for GT? or even better:

  14. It's a given that Penny would get the gold for this. :laugh: .
  15. I found the Qld OES club details, phoned Robert the Pet Coordinator,(he was the only one I could get hold of), gave him the details and I reckon he will be on the phone to the advertiser as I am writing this. Onya Robert...hope you have some success in finding them good homes
  16. I have emailed Jill as you suggested dogmad. I had a look at the OES's in the mature section but they appear to be in NSW and these are advertised in 'The Redland Times' ( Qld )
  17. There is an ad in the local paper---> 2 Old English Sheepdogs, 2 years old 1 male 1 fem, desexed, free to good home. I have checked if there is an OES rescue but can't find on DOL. If anyone can suggest a rescue I can email them the advertisers phone number. (I thought it best not to post it here)
  18. Don't worry too much about telling them about their dog's health problems JessicaM...there is one of the same breed living up the road from us that is not from the best of lines and he is the healthiest little dog one could find. His owner ran over him a few years back, got his pelvis and leg pinned and the tough little bugger is no worse for wear. Sometimes there are a few about that have no inherent problems...your (new) friends may have one like this.
  19. Hi puppy lover 123, there is a topic that may help here--> http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/170330-cavalier-king-charles-spaniel/ Edited to add that I hope I have given you the correct link as I get muddled about the differences between Cavaliers and King Charles Spaniels
  20. I am so sorry Esky, such a dear little dog, your heart must be broken. Rest in Peace Little One. .
  21. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/phoneapet-solution-to-missing-pooches-20120725-22pqk.html The days of papering the neighbourhood with lost dog posters could be numbered. Little Jimmy has come home from football practice and left the side gate open leaving an opening for the most adored member of the family - Fido the shih tzu - to break free of the backyard and tear off into the night. Rather than race door to door asking every neighbour whether they've seen their escaped pooch, Fido's owners grab the telephone and call the RSPCA. Within minutes, 2000 homes in the area have been contacted by automated phone message detailing the lost dog's name, breed and distinct markings. Fido's owners are well on their way to getting their little dog back. Using ReachTEL's voice broadcast technology, the RSPCA's Pet D Tect service has been enhanced, allowing details of a registered lost dog to be relayed to neighbours' phones via an automated message in minutes. Advertisement The messages continue to be sent out until 2000 callers are successfully reached. The service costs $300, significantly more than the typical $50 service offered by the RSPCA, which cross checks lost animals registered with the organisation with lists on vet surgeries and council pounds. But with the RSPCA fielding more than 32,000 calls about lost and found pets last year the organisation says the technology will greatly improve the chances of finding a pet. "Anything we can do to get those animals back to their owners much quicker is a step in the right direction," RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said. "The fact it is interactive too is great. So somebody who has seen can simply press a number and be patched straight through to the lost and found call centre." The idea for the program came about while ReachTEL were performing market research for the RSPCA. RSPCA Queensland executive director Michael Hornby suggested the organisation could utilise ReachTEL's automated voice services to help track lost pets. ReachTEL agreed and, after successful trials throughout Brisbane, Cairns, Rockhampton and Townsville, the service has been offered to pet owners statewide. The service is a not-for-profit venture offered by ReachTEL, with the $300 fee going towards administrative costs. Since it is not of a commercial nature, phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry will be contacted but private numbers will not. Mr Beatty says he expects most call recipients won't feel their privacy is threatened considering the calls are helping to track down a lost pet. While ReachTEL operations manager James Stewart said people would be given the option to opt out during the first call. "People will immediately be presented with an option not to receive calls in the future," he said. RSPCA Queensland's Lost and Found service can be contacted by calling 1300 363 736
