I get a newsletter from Denise Randall which usually features one of her 'Good Dog Jack' paintings as well as a story about some rescue Westie, or wannabe Westie. This morning her newsletter is about a blind Scottish terrier, Scottie Boy, who was rescued, as well as a Westie that also wears one. Scottie Boy's owner made him a halo. Google is my friend and this is what I found--> http://www.halosforpaws.com/ Seems a fantastic idea and the dogs are safer.

maybe someone here knows of the two dogs. Poor little Chiquita, that's a big scar for a little dog. http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/moreton-bay-regional-council-looks-for-owner-of-two-attack-dogs-after-redcliffe-incident/story-fn8ygho7-1226486750315 Barry Veale's three-year-old shih tzu Chiquita is lucky to be alive after suffering horrific injuries during a walk at Redcliffe's Bradley Park. The tiny pooch was set upon by two staffordshire terrier-cross dogs and Mr Veale was attacked when he tried to save her during the attack two weeks ago. He said the large dogs were on leashes but proved too much for their owner to handle when they ran across the park to attack Chiquita. ``These dogs saw our little dog and the lady was trying to hold them. I tried to grab Chiquita and they bit me on the arm,'' Mr Veale said. The woman and her dogs ran to a waiting car and left without exchanging details. Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said no one should have to go through such an experience. ``Council officers are continuing to investigate the incident, but I appeal to anybody who may have witnessed the attack and knows where the dogs are kept, or recorded the registration number of their owner's car to come forward,'' Cr Sutherland said. It is my hope somebody will come forward with information that will lead council to the owners of the dogs so we can put in place strategies to ensure they don't attack in public again.'' Last year, the Redcliffe & Bayside Herald ran a campaign called Biting Back after a series of dog attacks on the Peninsula. During the campaign, the Herald urged readers to be responsible pet owners, particularly those with aggressive dogs. At the time, council said it received an average of 55 dog complaints each day. Cr Sutherland said while the dogs responsible for the latest attack were not a restricted breed, council could declare them dangerous which raises yearly registration fees from $25 to $460. Meanwhile, Mr Veale is paying off a $1000 vet bill and nursing a nasty bite on his arm which required medical treatment and a tetanus shot.

Some Advice Regarding Ditropan For Dogs
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for that Rappie. I am taking him to the vet shortly to get the hair between his front-feet-toes clipped (he has a phobia) so I'll ask the vet to do bloods and get ideas on treatment for his wee problem. He doesn't drink more often than normally. He is just a stinky wee boy -
Some Advice Regarding Ditropan For Dogs
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes, I am going to do that next time I see the vet. I was just interested if there is anyone here that was/is familiar with this medication. I wasn't planing to buy some and give them to Mac...just after Ditropan for doggies info -
My Mac, 13y/o Westie, sometimes has a wee overnight, occasionally during the day also if I don't take him outside every 2-->3 hours to urinate...it leaks out, not much, but enough to make his hair on his tummy pong and discolour. I need to wash him underneath at least every 2-->3 days, and sometimes more frequently. I was chatting to my doctor today and he said that if he were a human he would prescribe 5mg Ditropan tablets. he suggested exploring this option. Has anyone here given this medication to their dog? Here is a little simplified info: What is Ditropan? Ditropan (oxybutynin) reduces muscle spasms of the bladder and urinary tract. Ditropan is used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder, such as frequent or urgent urination, incontinence (urine leakage), and increased night-time urination. And: To make sure you can safely take Ditropan, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions: glaucoma; liver disease; kidney disease; an enlarged prostate; ulcerative colitis; a blockage in your stomach or intestines; a muscle disorder such as myasthenia gravis; or a stomach disorder such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or slow digestion Thanks :)

I saw this on the Qld Police news and thought I'd post in General as more DOLers come here than the 'News' forums http://mypolice.qld.gov.au/blog/2012/09/25/can-you-help-findjackson/ Can you help find Jackson? September 25, 2012 at 11:46 am Police are appealing for witnesses after a dog was stolen in Marsden on Sunday. The 4-year-old Rottweiler was spotted being taken by a man on Fifth Avenue, Marsden. The man is described as being a tall Pacific Islander with a solid build. He was driving a blue four wheel drive. Anyone who may have seen Jackson or the four wheel drive is urged to contact Crestmead Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Are you going to drive over the Lions Road? it is well worth it, though you will be deafened by the song of squeaky bellbirds. You could go to Uki...not far away, you could also climb up Mt Barney if you have nothing better to do  Best take the Advantix with you, also check for ticks each day as they are pretty bad at the moment, the rain has made them ferocious and slavering for blood.

well....otter pups :) A couple of good pictures in the link http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-17/baby-otters-on-display-at-perth-zoo/4265670 The first otters born at Perth Zoo in almost two decades have made their public debut. A litter of Asian small-clawed otters went on display during a health check by the zoo's veterinary staff, while a second litter is still being housed in the zoo's off-display breeding facility. Environment Minister Bill Marmion says the eight pups were bred as a result of the successful matching of two breeding males and two female otters from zoos in Europe and the United States. He says otter parents Asia and Tuan are doing a great job of raising their pups. "The pups, born on June 19, have just started to venture out of their nest box and explore their exhibit, including testing the waters of their pool," he said. "Asia and Tuan are doing a fantastic job raising the pups, which weighed about 660 grams at their first health check at eight weeks of age. "Typical for a male otter, Tuan has been observed nest building and taking food to the pups and is very watchful over his family. The Asian small-clawed otter is the smallest of the 13 otter species, weighing just 3.5 kilograms when fully grown. They are found in parts of India, southern China, Malaysia and Indonesia where they can be hunted for their fur and meat.

I Thought I'd Heard And Seen It All
Boronia replied to a topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
O dear, poor Dimples has no idea what is happening, she looks upset and confused...probably because her wrinkles have a worried shape. Hope Mum, the poor old chook, is a little happier today Ams. -

Brown Rice, Bbq Chicken And Psyllium Husk
Boronia replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am sure I read on DOL that white rice is better for tummy upsets as brown rice still has the inner hull, therefore can irritate the gut a little. Just white rice and perhaps home made chicken soup (without the onions) mixed in with the rice. edited to correct really bad grammar -
One of the people at my pottery group made a beautiful memorial plaque (out of stoneware clay) for her dog. Perhaps if you were to go to a local arts/pottery group and ask..there would sure be some people there who would be happy to help you with a design, and perhaps even make you a stepping stone using your design. Once the stepping stone is made (you can make a raised design on it, or carve out a design) it is then dried for a week or two, then a bisque firing (1st firing, to really dry it out) then glazed...this is where you can either paint (with glaze), or ask the potter to paint on the design, it is then covered with a gloss glaze. It is then fired again to a stoneware temperature. When finished it will be waterproof and Very Hard Maybe worth enquiring about.

I may be missing something here...do you mean paw print stepping stones? if you do you can buy moulds ---> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Paw-Print-Stepping-Stone-Paver-Maker-Mould-Concrete-/300759981818?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item4606b11efa

I have read this listing on NZ's 'Trade Me' several times and the seller appears to be convinced that the dog is purebred as both the parents are purebred...unfortunately they are different breeds. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=510373652 Pity that cat legislation in Tasmania doesn't cover dogs in Australia and also NZ.

Would any one know where to get replaceable refills (the circular sandpaper wheel-thingos) for the Peti Buffer. It is the only thing I can use on Mac's nails that he doesn't mind...all other methods make him do pees-of-fear. He has a condition called touch-my-feet-means-ouchies phobia.

If the truth be known, the fight started with comments, by the corgi's, about Princess' Eugenie and Beatrice's hats. It escalated from there.....

Yes, definitely! If you go to a site called petsure http://www.petsure.com.au/ there are quite a few that you can do online quotes. They (I think) are all run by an umbrella company called 'Holland' but each insurer on the page has different costs, so it is worth doing a few quotes.

Yep, that is it exactly...I remembered this morning, after my flu-affected brain had a rest, and checked my yesterday's computer history and it was from a newby, in Tassie, who pasted a link on both threads about her crates-for-sale (my history showed her pet supply store) The other thread she posted in was started by Showdog and was titled 'Wanted: Dog Carrier Where to buy?' She should contact Troy for advertising rates, as some of her stuff was ok I'm so happy now that I know I'm not suffering from Old-Timers disease.

Well holey-moley, so it is too! When I answered it was definitely about 5 down from the top of page 1...wonder what happened, I don't ever go to page 2. I feel really stupid now  did ya get yer crate anyway?
