Princess's Happy Ending :-)
Boronia replied to k9angel's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
O My! look at that face and those bottom teeth! who could not love her :) -
No, she was a little unusual though- got pretty worked up about it. I did think her glass comment was a bit OTT. I saw a few people having a chuckle. :) She said it was a known fact and her mother heard it many years ago on the radio. My guys seem to love them & they are great for their dinner occasionally. I will keep an eye out to look for danger signs. probably spewed out by that knob Alan Jones

This is just lovely and a beaut photo! http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/monkey-business-over-conchetta-delivers-twins/story-e6freoof-1226526065726 CONCHETTA, the cotton-top tamarin monkey stolen from Alma Park Zoo 18 months ago, has had twins. It was her second pregnancy since her return after disappearing in October 2010. Her original mate Tonto was found bludgeoned to death soon after the abduction but Conchetta was missing for four months. Zoo curator Heather Hesterman said Conchetta's tiny twins, about 7cm long, had been riding on the back of their dad, and Conchetta's new partner, Manny. Male tamarins do most of the caring, even helping at births. They carry the young except for when the mother nurses them. Keepers have been giving the family plenty of privacy so mum and dad have the best shot at rearing both offspring. "The twins both appear strong and are holding on to their parents very well," Dr Hesterman said. "They are also starting to lift their heads and look around. With as few as 5000 individuals remaining in the wild, this little primate needs all the help it can get." Zoo head keeper Alison Wright said cotton tops did well in captivity but there were only a few to breed from in Australia. "There are only three or four breeding pairs," she said. "They have been used in medical research and they have lost a lot of numbers due to (Colombian) habitat destruction for things like dam building." Conchetta, 12, should breed for about three more years and live to about 20.

Having Trouble Sourcing Hills Prescription Diet
Boronia replied to best4koda's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It may be worth while to try this company (Oveds)as they have it. http://ovedshorseandpetstore.com.au/Dog-Products/Dog-Food/Hill-s-Prescription-Diet/Hill-s-Prescription-Z/d-Ultra-Low/2079-Hill-s-Prescription-Diet-Canine-z/d-Ultra-Allergen-Free-7.98kg.html You need to go right through 'check out' to find the postage costs but you can always cancel/delete the 'Cart' if it costs too much. Worth a try anyway. -

I am sorry to hear this Julie, PACERS did such good work and reading about them and what they achieved was an eye-opener for me when I first joined DOL. It was great fun when you had raffle tickets for all of us to sell and us-DOLers enjoying ourselves by bidding on the auctions you ran. PACERS will be sadly missed.

I usually use Hypericum ointment for wounds/cuts and the like. Its ingredients are: Hypericam flower (oil and extracts) lavender flower extract, oil of leafy tea tree twig, and superfine lanolin. I also use Scarless Healer, ingredients: Hypericum extract, Aloe juice powder, and Calendula flower extract. It is best to warm this ointment a little as it makes it easier to apply...it's pretty sticky. Both products are found in Health stores. If you can't get to the shops you could just put on the gel of freshly peeled Aloe vera, which you will probably have growing in your garden.

+1 -
When we had the farm the old guy up the road had a cattle dog x Kelpie called Patrick. In the mornings I could hear him shouting "Patrick, Patrick" but Patrick had usually sloped off and crawled through the hole in the cream shed so he could do some rat-killin' I reckon that Patrick is a good name for a dog!

this post of T's (posted on the 12th)is pretty relevant considering what has happened subsequently. It is a shame that this was not made clear in the beginning as Arcane, or, in fact, any of us who have no idea how Blacktown works. Had we known, Juice could have popped in and put on an EOI rather than leave it up to rescue. -

Skye Terrier In Blacktown Pound
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
If that is the case regarding dogs from Blacktown pound being sold to individuals before rescue groups/breed-specific homes I would have thought that some of the rescues would have posted that info in these forums before now so that a breed-specific-person could, at least, put their name on the dog rather than leave it up to rescue. I was of the understanding that rescue would put their name on the dog and the dog would go to them and to be later rehomed to an 'approved' person/family. -

I thought so as well donatella and Sheridan. Shmoo said in her post on the 7th:- "An EOI will be going through for him from a Skye breeder I've been in close contact with. Either way, whether under adoption through the breeder or through our rescue group he will come to me and his rehoming will be done between myself and Skye breeders" Can you please give us an update Shmoo? -
Either way, Xmas Day is cancelled this year, PD. Back to the OP, what breed of dogs are used for the vermin control? I found this Raz--> http://bundaberg.qld.gov.au/news/2012/11/07/combined-effort-protect-regions-turtles Combined effort to protect regions turtles 7 Nov 2012 Bundaberg Regional Council, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services (QPWS), Gladstone Ports Corporation Bundaberg (GPC) and Burnett Mary Regional Group (BMRG) have joined together on a project for the fight against foxes along the regions coastlines. The joint project is aimed at determining locations of fox dens along the coast from Moore Park Beach to the Pasturage Reserve in Bargara. Environment and Natural Resources Portfolio Spokesperson Cr Danny Rowleson said the innovative approach had been implemented using trained English Springer Spaniels as sniffer dogs to locate the fox dens and hides. “When the dens are located they are then mapped for future treatment and to assist in further coordination between the relevant organisations,” Cr Rowleson said. “Locating fox dens is important for protecting our turtles and marine birds as European Red Foxes predate on turtle eggs and hatchlings during the breeding season and can severely reduce the effectiveness of our conservation efforts.” “This project will provide very useful information to allow Council and QPWS to conduct fox control in a very strategic manner and give our important marine turtle populations a chance to recover.” “Council is looking forward to working jointly with QPWS, GPC Bundaberg and BMRG to protect one of our region’s most precious resources.”
