  1. When the dead rat that you had carefully hidden behind the sofa cushions has been removed.
  2. The link has some neat pictures http://mypolice.qld.gov.au/blog/2012/12/20/police-puppy-foster-care-hondo-and-heeko/ Police Puppy Foster Care – Hondo and Heeko December 20, 2012 at 1:55 pm Police puppies Hondo and Heeko left ‘home’ for the first time several weeks ago when they went to live with caring foster families around Brisbane. Home until then had been the Queensland Police Service (QPS) kennel complex where they were born on July 23 as part of the QPS Puppy Development Program. The German Shepherd puppies were born along with another brother and two sisters in the H litter. Police Dog (PD) Onyx is the father, and their mum Dutch was also born through the puppy development program. The brothers were separated at the end of September when they were fostered out at nine weeks of age. They are already showing potential QPS recruits. Police puppy Heeko now lives in Brisbane west with Police Dog Zamm as a foster big brother. Brisbane Dog Squad Senior Constable Cam McKinnon fostered Heeko hoping he will eventually become his new work partner after his current dog retires. “Heeko is settling in well at home with the family and most importantly with Zamm. I have a ten year old and a four year old, boys who have nick-named him Captain America. Lachlan and Ash love the Captain so he gets heaps of attention from the boys. He is quite fanatical about chasing the ball with them. “Heeko absolutely loves (Police Dog) Zamm and sleeps in the kennel with him. Heeko comes to work with us to start learning a few training tips. “He is extremely confident and bold with all the makings of a very good police dog,” Senior Constable McKinnon said. Police puppy Hondo is staying with a police officer from the Caboolture District and proved to need a lot of attention during his early weeks. “Hondo was a real handful in the first few weeks. However he is coming along well and showing improvement each week. He is a bit of an escape artist. He often gets out of the back yard and breaks into the back living area of the house, making himself at home. He chews anything and everything he can get to,” Constable Chris Canavan said. “Hondo has met both Caboolture Dog Squad’s Police Dogs Sonic and Elka and he recently spent four nights with Sonic. They get on well but Hondo has a few tricks to learn form Sonic before he can take over and start the real work. “He seems to get along very well with other dogs and people, he loves his food and his intake has doubled in quantity since I received him,” Constable Canavan said. Foster care is important to provide health and nutritional needs for the puppies and also develop the attributes and characteristics required to be a police dog. Meet #policepuppy Icon tomorrow.
  3. Is it possible that you could put the rescue idea on the back-burner Greylvr and perhaps just foster Greys from a reputable Grey rescue group for a while, that way you can get valuable, useful info from that rescue group and then decide whether you want to start your own rescue. It may be better for the dogs as well as for your peace of mind.
  4. same here, I put some wire netting around my strawberries and the dogs had fun lifting it up from the bottom to get the strawberries. Penny ate so many she looked like she had on red lippy
  5. Hi Westiemum, I feed raw 90% of the time but sometimes I have to feed kibble as I have forgotten to take out the minced turkey necks from the freezer. I feed the little guys Earthborn (usually on special) and Pure Sky grain free duck or salmon http://www.naturalpetstore.com.au/d/1305/6/dry-dog-food/adult/canidae-grain-free-pure-sea-with-salmon-meal---2.27kg/ http://www.naturalpetstore.com.au/d/MW71450/6/dry-dog-food/adult/earthborn-holistic-primitive-natural-grain-free-dog-food-2.5kg/ it is only $5 postage to city areas and sometimes they put in a treat as well. The only drawback is that I have to pick up Penny and Daisy's poo really quickly as Mac will eat it...he is so proud of himself when he find their kibble-flavoured poo! They all love it and Penny doesn't get the itchies.
  6. I was just browsing the ABC news and saw this (tacky headline ABC!) http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-12-17/ex-prostitute-and-police-recruit-on-cruelty-charges/4432176 Ex-prostitute and police recruit on cruelty charges By court reporter Jamelle Wells Updated 18 minutes ago Related Story: Ex-prostitute loses police job appeal Map: Mulgoa 2745 Former prostitute and New South Wales police trainee Kim Hollingsworth has faced court on 11 animal cruelty charges. Hollingsworth was dismissed as a police trainee in the 1990s for failing to disclose her past occupation as a stripper and prostitute. She was charged with animal cruelty after RSPCA inspectors went to her Mulgoa property, in Sydney's west, last week. Hollingsworth is charged with eight counts of failing to provide veterinary treatment for horses and three of failing to provide proper food. She told Downing Centre Local Court she would represent herself to fight the charges when the matter returned to court in April. Hollingsworth was sacked from the police force in 1995 after eight weeks as a student police officer. She fought a long legal battle to be reinstated, which was ultimately unsuccessful. Her life in Sydney's Kings Cross has been depicted in the Underbelly TV series.
  7. I sit on the sofa with Mac and turn on the grinder, then give Mac a dry-cat-food-kibble when he has settled. I usually do one toe and if he is a good boy I give him another kibble. If he fusses I say huh huh and wait until he is quiet, then give a kibble. He only gets his treat when he is being good. It all takes a while but beats having a stressed-peeing dog.
  8. I bought one of these at the markets for $5, it came with 10 sandpaper-wheel refills. I use it mostly on Mac as he has a don't-touch-my-feet phobia He doesn't mind it at all. it takes a while to grind the nails as the motor is not really strong...this is probably intentional as the nails will heat up through friction if it didn't stall under too much pressure on the nail. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3400182&f=PAD%2FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNo The smell of the grindings is not the best though :D
  9. Bobby is now living in Doggie-paradise! Good Job, Well Done!
  10. Sheridan, this is O/T but is this Dog-Shaming dog a Wheaten?
  11. I filled the cracks up with paint. Red floors here---> http://www.google.com.au/search?q=red+painted+floors&hl=en&client=ubuntu&hs=XBX&tbo=u&channel=fs&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=_yHFUIqOGoiQiAfezoGACQ&ved=0CDUQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=582
  12. MOAR PHOTOS! we are slothing this morning , Monday being my Sunday...... (please excuse the disgusting floor. That is exactly what it looked like when I pulled up the even grottier carpet. The stains aren't fresh! Now that settlement has happened (last Monday :) ) it's all mine and now I can decide what to do with the hideous floors!) This is O/T but the floors in our bedrooms looked like that when we pulled up the disgusting carpet so we painted them, put down colourful mats (from Loot) and they look great now. We painted them cream so they don't show the dog hair but do show up doggie muddy paw-prints. Google 'painted floors'
  13. I am wondering if you could leave the bowl that they pee in where it is (with their pee still in it) and then put another container, that is made of food-grade plastic (like a tallish, narrow jug similar to the ones you buy that hold drinking water and go in the fridge door), in a place in the yard which is a fair way away from their pee-bowl.
  14. I am sorry you had to make that hard choice in regards to Sally, you must have gone through hell deciding what was best for her and made the decision based on her having very little quality of life. Try not to beat yourself up about it, you were the one who had to see her each day and if she was not happy within herself you have made that wise and caring option. RIP Sally, you are in a good place now.
  15. You could phone Peninsula Animal Aid near Redcliffe: Phone: (07) 3284 1927 313 Duffield Road, Clontarf 4019 They are upgrading their website at the moment so there is no dog-listings There are also Terriers at AWL Qld here--> http://www.awlqld.com.au/adopt-a-pet/
  16. I will buy some of that then! just out of interest I Googled D1070 (the ingredient/seaweed in Plaque Off) and found this other product which says D1070 = Ascophyllum Nodosum. So it does have the same ingredient as anniek and Skruffy n Flea said here is the screenshot of the PDF

  18. Here ya go the voice over sounds like Stephen Hawkin
  19. I took this last evening...two planes playing silly-buggers in the sky
  20. Mac and Daisy's teeth are pretty good but there was no real difference with Penny's teeth. I doubled her dosage two months ago and they now looking better. I also bought some Petzlife and spray some onto her teeth so that may also be helping. I would be interested in finding out the results of that much-cheaper-seaweed-powder mentioned here.
  21. That is the BEST of news! Thank you Glemhaith, Shmoo and Arcane...you really busted your guts over this one! Many thanks to you all for helping the long-hairy-one ETA: Glemhaith...is he staying at your place in the lovely Border Ranges or does he go to Arcane's place for his forever home?
  22. For whom? for the dog, persephone, sorry, I wasn't very clear when I wrote that...what I meant was that the short time that dog has to be muzzled (and being fearful) at the vets will be offset with a (maybe) good prognosis of the dog having a happy life, rather than having her euthanised before all the options for treatment are carried out. (Anyway, I knew what I was talking about, it was unfortunate that no-one else did though  )
