Regarding the amount to give per weight of the dog...I wrote to Impact Supplements, where I bought the kelp/Ascophyllum nodosum powder, received no reply, so I wrote to Starwest Botanicals, who make the product and asked them. I received an email today, it said: Dear (my name here), Thank you for your contact. When using herbs for health purposes, this is information you must gather either for yourself online, through books, or from an herbal or health practitioner. In order for proper dosage to be given, all kinds of things must be taken into account (ie. body weight, current medications, etc). We are not herbalists and are not licensed to supply dosage or usage information for herbs being used for health purposes--we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please see an herbal practitioner if you require someone to issue you additional information. We hope you find this information helpful. Please let us know if we may be of more assistance. Thank you for choosing Starwest! Best regards, Julie Tan Sales Representative so we are back to square 1, Do any DOLers know of a herbal practitioner who can advise us on the amount to be given?

yes, that would be the most likely scenario Christina and also that I was reading it incorrectly, it did strike me as odd as from reading their website, they appeared to be an excellent, caring breeder of dogs. Thanks to everyone who answered :)

Yes I did think of that Roova but their page wasn't clear on this, they say ' we consider quality is more important than quantity we only breed when we are wanting to produce another star for the ring so we concentrate on having no more than 2 litters per year' perhaps I am reading it wrongly.
-
I was browsing the DOL Mature dogs section and clicked on a link to a breeder, in their 'about us' page they state that ' we concentrate on having no more than 2 litters per year'. I thought that it was three litters in two years. Most bitches come into season around every 6 months so this would mean that their bitch would be mated every season...I am a little confused, so if someone could set me straight I'd appreciate it.

You could probably give a charcoal tablet morning and night for a couple of days, charcoal helps absorb toxins in the gut.

Going To Tick Country - Which Preventatives
Boronia replied to Mrs Rusty Bucket's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
here is a link that may help Ellis http://www.vetshopaustralia.com.au/permoxin-C98.aspx Permoxin is a concentrated permethrin based insecticidal spray and rinse for the control of fleas and ticks on dogs, and flies and biting insects on horses. Dilute the concentrate in water and then spray, dip or apply the solution to the coat ensuring that the solution wets down to the skin. Apply as often as necessary. Permoxin is not to be used on cats. -

I am using about 1/4 more than the Plaque Off per-kilo dosage as it is a powder and the plaque Off was sort-of concentrated in hard tiny lumps. I looked at the bag it came in and there are no dosage recommendations, I think I will write have just written to them to find out.

Not in those exact terms.. they won't understand 'faking pain', but they may well have learned to connect lying on the floor or something with you giving them cuddles! Much training is based on the premise that doing something will get them a reward, so it's quite possible that if your dog likes cuddles, he will have connected some sort of behaviour that we interpret as 'faking pain' as something that will get him a cuddle. I have known dogs to fake limps only when they see their owners watching, but the rest of the time walk fine. The second they see the owner watching ... limping again  how true...except they sometimes forget which leg it was and limp on the other side

I mix up a raw mix about once a month for my pugs, I don't measure exact quantities though. It's usually beef mince based, with some lamb mince (for example, last night I bought 2kg of lamb mince and 3kg of beef mince, we'll probably use it all). I also add some sort of organ meat, this time I got liver (forget if its beef or lamb). I put some carrots and apples through the juicer to pulp them (maybe ... 6 apples or a few more depending on the size) and sometimes 500g of carrots and 2 or 3 zucchinis. I drink the apple juice myself, use a teeny bit of carrot juice to make the mix moist. Flaxseed powder goes in the mix, so does cranberry powder (as I have a pug prone to UTI's). I either chuck in a few tins of sardines in oil or some eggs with shells. I don't add grains or carbs or anything like that. It ends up looking something like this: Sometimes it has more meat less veggies, because it's not an exact science. They get it for brekky with yoghurt and sometimes a chicken foot or necks. Dinner is chicken carcass usually, or some sort of meat on a bone or edible bone. Thanks Minimax, that's just what I'm looking for. I also like the idea of making a large batch since I get lazy in the morning sometimes Do you freeze it in small containers/plastic bags and unfreeze it before serving it? Yep, we have a deep freezer primarily for dog food, so the raw mix gets frozen in individual brekky sized portions in zip-lock bags and taken out of the freezer each night to defrost. I freeze my raw vegie slops in the little round containers I buy at Crazy Clark's, they come a little net, they are cheap, made in Australia and last and last without cracking or getting hard/brittle. One container lasts around 4 days with my lot.

It always gladdens my heart when a baddie lashes out at a Police Dog then gets bitten http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/christmas-crime-spree-pair-caught/story-e6freoof-1226543519802 Christmas crime spree pair caught by: Brittany Vonow From: The Courier-Mail December 26, 2012 6:13AM A MAN and woman who allegedly went on a crime spree around Ipswich on Christmas night have been caught and charged. The pair were first heard in the driveway of a Schultzs Road property in Ironbark. Instead of reindeer hoofs on his roof, a 47-year-old Pine Mountain man at the home heard the sound of breaking glass in the property’s driveway about 7.50pm and, going to investigate, found the pair had smashed the window of a car sitting in the driveway. The pair hit the man in hit in the head, who suffered a severe cut to his head and was treated at the Ipswich General Hospital. The pair then fled the property without stealing anything but was again seen on Schultzs Road. There, the pair allegedly flagged down a passing motorist and smashed the car’s window. They tried to steal property from the 21-year-old Brookfield man driving the car but were unsuccessful and were forced to flee empty-handed in their vehicle. The 21-year-old man was not hurt. Police later spotted the pair driving along Walloon-Rosewood Road but lost them when the driver drove into bushland. The car was then found abandoned in John Street in Rosewood and police called in the dog squad. The man and woman were found hiding separately around John Street. The 37-year-old Parramatta Park man hit out at the police dog and was bitten while being arrested. He and a 21-year-old Brisbane woman both received treatment at Ipswich General Hospital for what are believed to be minor injuries. The pair has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court tomorrow.
