interesting news story but the Americans always have to put their own slant on things which is annoying. Fantastic dog though! I can't embed the video (again) A dog with a special talent if that link above does not work try this one--> http://www.wthitv.co...nt#.UUizE_-yV7a

Good Stuff Blacktown Pound! What is puzzling me though is why PR are upset about the new policy, I can't see why it can affect their present arrangements in finding homes for the dogs, unless of course, that there are less dogs to find homes for = less funds coming in. Surely they can now advertise that the dogs have been tested, therefore are more likely to find homes quickly which would bring funds to their organisation? much faster.

It was as you all thought...she was having a roll in the mud  Lazarus-like revival of Tika, the 'dead dog', gets hosed down by owner Vivien MacBeth by: Andrew MacDonald WENT VIRAL: Far from being dead, Tika was just enjoying a roll in the mud. Picture: Jamie Hanson Source: The Courier-Mail MEET Tika the indestructible mud dog. The 14-year-old staffy and her owner Vivien MacBeth became the unlikely subjects of a southeast Queensland search last week, when Somerset Regional Council launched a public appeal to identify a plucky pooch featured in a series of photos from the 2011 floods. The images show a muddy, bloated dog lying still in a field before a hosedown from a woman brings it "back to life". Keen to include the snaps in a book commemorating the post-disaster clean-up, the council called for the dog's owner to come forward. Bemused Esk resident Ms MacBeth confirmed it was her beloved pet in the photos, taken by an SES volunteer friend. She said far from being at death's door, Tika had been enjoying a stretch and roll after a romp in the mud. "That's just her normal behaviour, I'm afraid," she said. "She must have been a warthog in another life because if we can find a pond or a creek ... she has a bit of a swim." Ms MacBeth said it was hardly Tika's first misadventure, with the hardy animal having previously survived a jump from a fast-moving truck, being run over, a near drowning and a fish spine through the foot. "She just keeps going," she said. A series of images released by Somerset Regional Council showed what appeared to be a bloated, muddy and lifeless staffy-cross lying in a field, before it miraculously came back to life. Not so, says the owner. Ms MacBeth said she had no idea the images had been sent to council and was stunned at the fuss. "It's amazing really because it's gone all over the bloody countryside," she said. "I just want everybody to know she's safe and well, alive and kicking, and spoilt rotten."

Chicken Carcass Frames How To Feed?
Boronia replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Make sure to pull off all those great gobs of fat that are on the frames before you feed them to her. As you haven't any kitchen scissors you can twist them apart(as if you are taking the lid off a jar)...best to wear kitchen gloves for a better grip. She will love them...mine get a 1/2 every so often and they think they have performed a wildebeest kill on the Serengeti, they become ill-mannered and feral! -
I had Penny's teeth done yesterday, $487 for initial consult, pre-med injection + another (which I can't remember what it was, but it sounded like a drug that is stolen from the chemist's), scale (they were in not good) 1 front wobbly tooth extracted, drip and AB's. I was happy with it. The seaweed powder (same as Proden Plaque-Off) and Petzlife don't seem to be working very well on her, the other two dogs teeth are pretty good but Penny has always had tooth problems.

Yes, the silly dog was probably playing in the mud then having a lie-down and then some idiot turned the hose on him and spoilt his doggie-dreams

http://www.courierma...f-1226594827039 Series of images released today that were sent to Somerset Regional Council show what appears to be a bloated, muddy and lifeless staffy-cross lying in a field, before it miraculously comes back to life. Source: Supplied DO you know this flood dog that just wouldn't die? A southeast Queensland council is putting out a call for anybody who recognises this plucky pooch to get in touch. The series of images released today were sent to Somerset Regional Council, to the west of Brisbane, for inclusion in a commemorative book of photos documenting stories of recovery from the 2011 floods. Two show what appears to be a bloated, muddy and lifeless staffy-cross lying in a field. When first found lying in a field, the dog was bloated, muddy and lifeless. A third shows a person hosing off the unfortunate animal, as it becomes more recognisable.A final instalment in the series shows the newly-clean dog, smiling happily for the camera. Council plans to use the photographs in its book The Somerset Story, documenting the region's flood recovery, if it can identify the dog's owner or the person in the picture. As this person hosed the dog down, it gradually became recognisable. Somerset Regional Council flood recovery officer Jane Williamson said the dog had won over everybody involved in the production. "The photographs tell an amazing story of a dog that truly looks like it's had its day," she said. "It's quite amazing that the dog survived the floods when you look at the earlier photos of it bloated and lying in the grass. Finally from bloated, muddy and lifeless, the pooch staged a miraculous return from the dead, cracking a smile for the camera. If you recognise this dog or the person hosing it down, contact Somerset Regional Council. "We really want to include these photographs in the book but to do that we need to know who submitted the images, who the dog belongs to or who the person is in the photograph." More information about the photographs is needed by March 20 if they are to make the deadline for inclusion. Anybody with information should contact Somerset Regional Council on 5424 4000 or email [email protected]. gov.au

I Googled for some info WM and found this (you have probably looked at it already) http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=261162 it was interesting that part of a comment that one poster ( Golden Fox) wrote is.... 'My vet said she has had more success with dogs on Vitatonin and Aktivait together'. Is your Mac on both or just the Vivitonin?
-
The books that say chewing/gnawing bones keep dogs' teeth sparkling :p Clearly she hasn't and I'd love her to learn to brush her own teeth, that chicken flavoured toothpaste makes ME want to gag  Yes! it is completely revolting! I wish I had never bought it
-
Penny will not allow Mac to run/zoomie in the passage way. She sits at the corner and growls and snaps her teeth at him when he zooms past. She is the zoomie Nazi

and photos! -
Mac does this also...bit of a surprise really as in some ways he is a little 'special' If I give him a piece of butter paper he always puts it carefully on the ground, butter side up, puts his paw on one edge to hold it steady, then licks it clean.

This is a shock W Sibs, I loved reading about Charlie, the stories about him will be missed by us DOLers. RIP beautiful little Zen-dog, you were much loved ❤

B he prescribed Stilboestrol for Mac. And it seems to be working well. I used belly bands until he was going through them like a newborn then i needed to start him on the medication.. He too was intermittently really wet but he never smelled. That would suggest infection to me. Are you sure he doesn't have a UTI? the last time I took him to the vet she put him on AB's and it made no difference. I have had him on the Propalin since Monday evening and he was dry underneath yesterday afternoon and again this morning, I would have thought it'd take longer than 2-->3 doses to see if it is working. The vet also put him on a course of AB's as he has a slight infection between two toes on each of his front paws, if it is/was a UTI I don't think the AB's would have worked so quickly. It has me stumped! My Mac's smell could be from the vege slops that I add to his turkey-neck-mince, it has fish oil added into it...either way it is was pretty urine-smelly, his bed smelt of babies wet nappy left on way too long
-
Try turkey necks or wings, your local pet food supplier may have them, if not, Woollies usually do, they are in trays that are purple coloured. The necks don't have much fat an them and they are nice and crunchy for the dogs

A bit off topic Westiemum but what did your vet prescribe for your Mac's urinary incontinence problem? (before you put him on pads) My Mac drips bits of wee out, sometimes during the day and also his bed has a small amount of wee on it...enough that I have to wash the blanket that goes on his little mattress, I also have to wash him underneath every day or two, he leaks on his skirt and smells to high heaven. I took him to the vet today, the urine sample was ok, she gave me some Propalin syrup for him, she told me that there didn't seem to be any specific treatment for dog urinary incontinence (only bitches) but she has had fairly good results with Propalin in dogs. Hopefully it'll help as he looks terrible with his yellowy/orange skirt and leg hairs and also his stinkin' 'man perfume"

Thanks for posting that Jed, I would like to take home Finnegan, the Glen of Imaal Terrier..what a neat dog!

It is good for upset tums Sheridan ( http://www.totallynatural.com.au/slippery-elm-powder.html ) I don't usually use it, I just give 1/2 charcoal tablet (1/2 a tablet is about the amount for Westies) for a couple of days, that usually does the trick.

So sorry Pers. RIP Hamlet you beautiful boy
