  1. Is there a noise in the turbo, transmission or gearbox? (like a high pitched sound) I can sometimes hear that type of noise in some heavy vehicles and it drives me nuts. If there is you could try putting in some additive that your local transmission/gearbox specialist recommends. Worth a go.
  2. Daisy is puzzled on why I put her in the water, she had more fun in the wet mangrove-muddied sand she is always the dirtiest of dogs and the three of them with a bit of dead fish

  5. It is unfortunate but the breeder cannot be reported to anyone TA. Unless the breeder is a member of an organisation like the Canine Control Council or a specific incorporated dog-group...in which case they can have their membership revoked as they have broken the organisation's constitutional rules. The breeder (in this case) can sell the pups at whatever age they like. The '8 weeks old for sale' is only a recommendation by RSPCA or Councils and there is nothing the RSPCA or Councils can do about it. I would be very happy if I can be corrected on my post.
  6. if these are the pups at Shailer Park the breeder has not mentioned any health checks I also find it odd that they couldn't spell Shailer Park correctly if they are live there
  7. I wonder if you were to contact volunteers at Peninsula Animal Aid http://www.peninsulaanimalaid.com.au/ they are about 15k's from Bald Hills
  8. Try Pet Sitters Australia LG http://www.petsitaus.com.au/ all sitters have to complete a dog/cat first aid course before they are allowed to begin sitting. The woman you contact is Kerry Bailey
  9. maybe a good idea to purchase a food-grade bowl from a kitchen shop or K-mart, the plant pots may have glazes made from lead and cadmium so using them as water bowls may not be the best of ideas. You are probably best with stainless steel (or just let the dog paw the water...he will get sick of doing it one day) :)
  10. Sorry I took so long to answer your question Oakway but I had appointments in town and had to nick off quick-smart to catch the ferry. I can't track down who the people I bought the kelp powder from but did a search and came up with a couple of Aussie suppliers 1) My Daily Vita--> http://mydailyvita.c...e=shopping_cart 454g (approx 16oz->1LB) $15.95 +$8.50 shipping 2) Fishpond--> http://www.fishpond....g/9999127328501 $29.95 for 454g, free shipping 3) Aussie Well--> http://www.aussie-we...er+Organic+1+lb $37.95 for 1LB Free shipping So the cheapest seems to be # 1....My Daily Vita The Starwest Kelp Powder is Ascophyllum Nodosum D1070 which is the kelp species in Proden Plaque Of, it is powder, not granules (Proden is granules) I give the dogs (average weight 8kg) a bit under an 1/8 teaspoon twice daily (a 1/4 teaspoon not-quite-half-full)
  11. Proden Plaque Off https://www.google.c...YCQCQ&gws_rd=cr I use this product instead of Plaque Off, as it is HEAPS cheaper and is the same seaweed as Plaque Off ( Ascophyllum Nodosum D1070), it seems to soften the plaque so it's easier to remove http://www.iherb.com...anic-1-lb/22573 I also use PetzLife Oral Care on Penny's teeth as an added tarter-precaution as she will try to swallow bones whole (this gets expensive due to the removal costs at the vet) http://www.glowgroom...ith-salmon-oil/
  12. No surprises here.... http://www.news.com....n-1226816056422 Concerns RSPCA is destroying pets that could be kept alive The WA Government has raised fears the RSPCA is destroying pets that could be kept alive. Picture: File image Source: News Limited THE WA Government has raised fears the RSPCA is destroying pets that could be kept alive. Documents obtained by The Sunday Times reveal Agriculture Department boss Rob Delane was told of a case last year where medical histories did not support the destruction of some pets. "It is unclear whether the RSPCA had sufficient grounds to destroy these animals," a briefing note for Mr Delane dated May 2013 said The briefing notes were prepared for Mr Delane after the RSCPA seized 130 animals from a woman's property in December 2012. The RSCPA has accused the woman of animal cruelty. The notes prepared for Mr Delane warn the RSCPA's processes were "inadequate". The briefing note came after Mr Delane wrote to the RSPCA inspector involved in the case in April to warn they could be charged. "Based on the information provided by the RSPCA recently, you appear to have failed to meet your statutory obligations under section 41 (2) and may also have exceeded your powers in other areas," he said in the letter dated April 16. Revelations of the documents come as a former RSPCA regional inspector, who asked not to be named, also expressed concerns about the treatment of animals by the organisation. The inspector, who resigned last year, said she would regularly try to rehome animals in country areas rather than bring them to the Perth shelter because she feared they would be put down. "I wouldn't take my animals up there," she said. "Some puppies would get put down at eight weeks and they would say they had behavioural problems," she said. The criminal proceedings against the woman for animal cruelty and confining or restraining an animal in a manner that may cause harm will be heard in the Perth Magistrates Court on February 11. The woman has also launched civil proceedings against the RSPCA in the State Administrative Tribunal for a review of the decision to take her animals. The matter is still before the tribunal. RSPCA state chief executive David van Ooren said no disciplinary action had been taken and the allegations in the report had not been substantiated. An RSPCA spokesman said there were "very clear" and "well-developed" policies relating to the euthanasia of animals.

  15. I was just wondering how the hair would get into her mouth/gut. Is it her hair or one of the other dogs? she may be ingesting hair from one of the others, is it dog hair or is it hair from a fluffy toy?...I can now imagine you poking around in her poo to identify the type of hair within
  16. Found the NSW DPI info (thank you Minimax) but I can find nothing of substance for Qld (no surprise there), Qld offences info include cropping a dog's ears, docking it's tail or debarking and general common-sense animal welfare If a person did not follow the items listed in the Code of Practice (ie is it a Law?) do they get fined or is the Code of Practice a guideline only? NSW DPI.... Transfer of Ownership Objective The transfer of ownership of animals should be used to promote socially responsible pet ownership, and to reduce the destruction of companion animals. 9.1.1 Standards 9.1.1.1 Puppies and kittens must not be re-homed before they are 8 weeks of age. 9.1.1.2 Dogs and cats must not be re-homed to people less than 18 years of age. 9.1.1.3 No dog or puppy, cat or kitten may be sold unless vaccinated in compliance with the requirements of Section 8.2 of this Code. 9.1.1.4 All dogs and cats re-homed must be microchipped, and treated to remove gastrointestinal parasites prior to release. 9.1.1.5 No dog or cat suspected of being sick, injured or diseased may be sold under any circumstances. 9.1.1.6 At the time of purchase, clients must be offered accurate written information at no charge which concerns the care of animals purchased. 9.1.1.7 If within 3 days a dog or cat is not acceptable to the purchaser for any reason, the breeder is required to take the dog or cat back and refund 50% of the purchase price of the animal. This guarantee must be provided in writing to the purchaser at the point of sale
  17. make sure that the peanut butter has peanut oil in it as many have the oil removed and palm oil substituted. Many health food shops make their own peanut paste from grinding up fresh peanut in-store. Dick Smith have peanut paste that has Australian grown peanuts, it is called OzEnuts
  18. can you clarify this for me please dancingbc's, is it a law or a 'Code of Practice' ? If it is a code of practice are there fines for Mr Joe-Bloggs BYBer selling pups under 8 weeks? I had phoned the RSPCA and our local (in QLD) council to find out that very thing and it appeared to be a recommendation only, unless it was a pet shop ( http://kb.rspca.org....chased_311.html ) There appears to be no exact laws (that I can find easily) :) She said NSW. QLD may be different. Yep, I realise that Minimax but I can't find anything definitive in NSW either (this includes the RSPCA site)
  19. Is your dog biting herself Gretel? maybe bathe her in Calendula tea, she may have itchies, also add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (the non pasteurised ones like Melrose or Braggs) to her meals.
  20. Mac was on Propalin for about a year and it works very well up to a month ago when he began to leave drips on the floor and on each of the 17 steps from the house to the ground. I took him back to the vet who checked Mac's urine: no sugars, protein or any nasties except his urine is diluted. I asked the vet about Stilbrestol, he said he hadn't tried it on male dogs but there was no harm in giving it a go for a few weeks, so Mac is now into day 3 of his lady-hormones :) If the Stilbrestol doesn't work I may try him on corn-silk capsules, though the vet said we may need to send off bloods to check other reasons...like Cushings, so we will wait for a few weeks to make a decision (the vet said that because the blood tests are rather expensive and sometimes need to be re-done several times as the results are not certain or definitive with just the one test)
  21. Mac, keeping a eye on things, he will be 14 in March

  23. There should be more of these... http://www.gympietim...metery/2151434/ Pet Memorial Garden project completed 28th Jan 2014 8:00 AM RSPCA volunteer Dale Ludcke and mate in the new Pet Memorial Garden. David Crossley IT HAS been five years since the Rotary Club of Gympie and the RSPCA Gympie fundraising committee began fundraising for a Pet Memorial Garden, but the project has finally been completed. The Pet Memorial Garden is a place for pet owners to grieve and have a place of remembrance for a beloved pet that has passed on. Gympie RSPCA spokeswoman Evelyn Aldridge said this type of closure was often a necessity for those who rent, the aged or for those who have to leave their home or property. "Pet owners can have peace of mind knowing their pet will never be forgotten," Ms Aldridge said. She said the Rotary Club of Gympie donated money for the Remembrance Gazebo in the garden back in 2009, and this was the beginning of the fundraising effort. In November, 2012, Gympie Regional Council and the Gympie Cooloola Club visited the RSPCA to assist with the project and by July, 2013, skill-building organisations Makro and Associates and Hartbeat Training had secured federal funding from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to build the memorial garden. Next, the Gympie Cooloola Rotarians drew up the plans and pegged out two dog parks; one for large dogs and the other for smaller dogs. RSPCA volunteers Russell Ludcke, Dale Ludcke and Rick Brooks chipped in to build the long-awaited park after financial assistance was granted from the council. "The RSPCA are now delighted to announce that it will be an off-leash dog park for the general public as well as a wonderful recreational park for the RSPCA adoption dogs," Ms Aldridge said. The Pet Memorial Garden and Dog Park will open to the public tomorrow at 10am at the Gympie Animal Care Centre, Laurenceson Rd. Opening hours of the facilities as from February 1, will be 10am-5pm seven days a week, except public holidays.
