  3. Little gorilla ❤ video in this link--> http://www.theguardi...c-section-birth Baby gorilla undergoes operation after emergency C-section birth • Vets and human doctors treat collapsed lung • 2kg female gorilla born at San Diego zoo on Wednesday Associated Press in San Diego theguardian.com, Sunday 16 March 2014 01.54 AEST Gorilla is delivered by C-section. Veterinarians at the San Diego zoo have performed an operation on a newborn gorilla that was delivered by caesarean section. The zoo says the 4.6lb (2kg) female was born on Wednesday but seemed to have breathing problems. On Friday morning, a team fixed a collapsed lung that probably occurred during delivery. The medical team included vets and two doctors who usually work on humans: a neonatal specialist and an anaesthetist. Neonatologist Dawn Reeves said the patient was different from human babies because, among other things, she can grab with both her hands and her feet. The gorilla will be monitored around the clock as she recovers. The mother gorilla, named Imani, had never given birth. The zoo says an emergency C-section was performed because she was in distress after going into labour.

  7. In the ABC news http://www.abc.net.a...-kennel/5321744 the reporter has said.... A volunteer from the Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service took the two-and-a-half-metre snake to a vet to see if the python would regurgitate the chain. The snake is still under observation and it may need surgery. Poor little dog I told my o/h and he didn't quite hear what I said, he thought they were taking the snake to the vet because they wanted the chain back. Idiot o/h
  8. When I got Penny (and Mac) a few years back Penny had dreadful skin (hair loss and scabby). After trying different diets and shampoos I found the only thing that helped was a completely raw diet with NO cereals. It was advised (I had contacted her previous vet at Kenilworth) to keep her off red meats as she had kidney stones removed. It also helped if I didn't bathe her very often...once her skin cleared up she didn't smell anyhow. If I had known about Calendula petals when I was going through the hell of finding a solution I reckon she would have healed (inside and out) much much quicker. I now mince up around 15kg of turkey necks at one go (and freeze in lunch-box sized containers) then mix in a good dollop of slops with their mince at each meal. It is important to add unpasteurised apple cider vinegar to the veges. Here is an old topic on 'Dog Slops' http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/226201-barf-vegies/page__p__5482993__hl__%2Bdog+%2Bslops__fromsearch__1#entry5482993

  10. I can't find the thread bout Zeus that was posted a couple of weeks back. Here is an update from the Brisbane Times http://www.brisbanet...bnr=MTAxMzU1ODU Brisbane dog at centre of national facebook storm March 11, 2014 - 12:01AM Kim Stephens Journalist Zeus, the dog at the centre of a social media storm Photo: Supplied A seven month fight by a Brisbane family to save their pet from doggie death row has suddenly whipped up a social media frenzy. Nearly 1500 people have joined the Facebook site Free Zeus since Friday, calling for the release of Zeus, a dog whose breed is at the centre of contention between his owners and Brisbane City Council. Rangers seized the animal in Sunnybank in late August last year, when it escaped its owners' yard. A destruction order was issued a week later when council declared him to be part American Pitbull, a restricted breed in Brisbane. Advertisement His family had adopted him just seven months earlier, believing him to be a labrador/Staffordshire terrier cross. The same dog had been caught and released to its owner by council officers in February that year, after being registered. Melanie Isaacs, founding member of the Sydney-based advocacy group Team Dog, launched the social media campaign, after hearing of the family's fight and the financial dilemma that might have prevented them getting Zeus back. In addition to fighting the destruction order through numerous court hearings and appeals, the family also has to pay an impoundment bill of nearly $30 per day, which now totals more than $4500. Within hours of launching the site on Friday, Ms Isaacs said donations to help the family had totalled more than $2000. Council had told Zeus's owners they would release their pet on Friday morning, if they satisfied a range of requirements, which Ms Isaacs said they did, and paid the impoundment costs. However, Ms Isaacs said officers inexplicably changed their minds on Friday afternoon, deciding to keep Zeus in until the next scheduled court hearing in April. A council spokesperson said no attempt has been made to pay the fees for Zeus. "A query was made regarding the process for releasing the dog. Council will release Zeus upon payment of fees and completion of relevant documentation," the spokesperson said. Ms Isaacs said determining a dog's breed could be problematic. "The issue is whether he is a restricted breed or not, this is the biggest flaw with breed specific legislation, identification simply can't be done," she said. "Animal professionals all disagree with each other about it. One can be adopted one day as staffy labrador cross, then declared a pitbull the next." Ms Isaacs said the level of support garnered for Zeus's cause so quickly indicated widespread community opposition to banning certain breeds of dogs. "We at Team Dog believe in science-based animal management and there is no scientific evidence that banning these breeds reduces dog attacks," she said. A council spokeswoman said council could not comment on the case while it was before the courts.
