You could ask your vet about monthly Synovan injections, my old boy did ok on them, check the 'What is Synovan' heading here I give my 12y/o Dandie, Zara, 1tsp Cen Oil daily (I use the horse one as it was given to me) as well as 3/4 tsp of Glucosimine/Chondroitin powder. I have found the most economical is from here I have really noticed an good improvement in Zara's mobility since she has been on the Cen Oil. It has also helped with new hair growth on my 'skin' Westie

Zara has to have 1/2 Urimav tablet morning and night and it's impossible to get the tablet to stay down even when I push it right down into her gizzards (gizzard: medical term for a long long way down her oesophagus lol), she'd just huck it up so I fixed that by dissolving it in a little water and mixing it with her meat and vegie slops...works a treat

Dandies love vegetables (and some fruit) the biggest treat is a cabbage leaf stalk, the Westies not so much though the little scunners do eat the cabbage stalks so the others don't get them. Dandelion flowers are also particularly yummy

Ages back I took Henry and Zara to an Earth Dog fun-day at Durack, they didn't have rats (unfortunately as Henry would have cleaned them up quick-smart) they had a fox-tail on a stick, Henry went through the caged tunnel ok but only because he thought the fox-tail was something to eat, he couldn't figure out why it required so much effort for such a low-grade treat. Zara was just soooo uninterested in the whole hunting thing and wouldn't go in the tunnel at all! so much for rat-killer Dandies she was happy sitting on a hay bale just waiting for a treat

A little but to partly answer @Adrienne's question: when you buy your stripping knife get the one that has a groove to put your thumb, an example here (though the teeth are to coarse for your dog) I find they are more comfortable and easier to use than the flat-sided bladed ones. Wear rubber gloves also as your fingers get sore if you don't, you can buy little finger condoms like these . if you are using a stripping stone I find it's cheaper to buy a Heros Chiropody sponge (it's a type of pumice stone) from Chemist Warehouse here it does a good job. Just do 10 minutes on your dog each day
