Hi Deeds, I feel that you have posted here to reinforce the decision you are close to making. It appears you cannot have tried harder to help your boy. There comes a time to say goodbye and though it will break your heart, your boy is not happy and you will need to make your decision soon. If there was an end to his seizures in sight or if the medications are working you would have good reason to continue but he seems to be getting worse. Remember...it's all about the dog and his happy life, he doesn't have one at this time. Most of us here have said goodbye to our besties, and though it's hard we all know that it is the last thank you for being in my life we have given them. B

I can't find that original post in the Dandie page but there as an update, as you see she is managing well and is happy so hang in there and Google search for 'ways to help your blind dog' Hello Everyone, I'm Lexie and today is my 11th Birthday. I had a piece of Dad's toast & marmalade at breakfast and then Dad took me out for a nice walk. We went down the road to the green and Dad put one of the streachy leads on and I had a nice trot on the grass. When I had got to the end of the lead, Dad call me and I had to find him. He said I was his clever girl. When we got home, Mum brushed me and took me outside and sat me on a chair for a while. Later, my daughter Fudge said, " If you had seen what Mum put on you, you would not have sat still on the chair" ! She goes on to say: Thank you all for the Birthday comments, can't stop as I can hear Mum rattling the food bowls. I'm with Dad in his 'office' making sure he does the spelling right . I'm sure I've got something delicious, so must get Dad to carry me downstairs. Don't tell him, but I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could find my way down Love from Lexie, have a Happy Easter xxx

Google 'blind dog halo' this is one type---> https://www.handicappedpets.com/walkin-blind-dog-halo/ I am a member of the Dandie Dinmont FB page and there are posts from the owner of a blind Dandie (some Dandies have Glaucoma and require eye removal) who is also a member, her Dandie copes very well (usually well-able to find a sunny spot) I will try to find a post from her today and edit this to pop in the link The main thing is to not stress too much about your little one, they can handle blindness...just don't move furniture around. Also search for 'making a scent trail for blind dog' there are some very useful tips

Oooo, you lucky thing, old dogs are just the best! and lucky dogs to have such a loving owner...they probably received recommendations from dog friends and Dolers Congratulations

Whatever Jeune wants Jeune gets - update 9 April
Boronia replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm so sorry DDD, you will miss her so much, she has been part of the Dogz family for so long, what a grand little one she was. She will have the best company over the bridge and her tummy will always be full and her food bowl will always be licked clean. B xxx -
if you do decide to make Calendula tea you can buy ginormous big bags of Calendula petals here (1kg of dried petals=really big bag) https://countrypark.com.au/shop/?product=calendula-petals what is also helpful is to massage Calendula-infused almond oil (you can make this yourself) into his skin, add drops of lavender oil as it's beneficial as well. The above tips are useful in soothing the skin and help very well in fungal infections, Calendula is marvellous though I feel that you should bring out the 'big guns' and take him to a specialist first, finding the source is the first step. Many vets put the itchy dog on Apoquel + antibiotics first as the Apoquel lessens the itch and the AB's clear up any bacterial infection that is usually present, this gives the body time to repair then one can start on finding the exact cause. (fungal, allergies (including contact allergies) bacterial or even household cleaners) I am a little concerned with what the pest-man has been using as well. Do you have this in your yard? link to Google images dogs love to lie on it as it feels cool and soft let us know how you go

Vets All Natural have a mix, sort of like a savoury muesli, you soak it overnight and mix with the raw meat, it tries to mimic the gut content of animals that dog ancestors have killed. It will give your dog the essentials that you are concerned he might miss out on. I give it to my lot and they love it. Free postage as well (there is probably slightly cheaper elsewhere but I have found this company very good. Budget pet products are ok but their free postage is only selected areas) https://www.vetsupply.com.au/vets-all-naturals/b2077.aspx the puppy mix is on special https://www.vetsupply.com.au/dog-food/complete-mix-for-puppies/pet-foods-pack-1730-7119.aspx and all about Vets all natural https://vetsallnatural.com.au/

I thought it was dog food Teebs was talking about, I'm more concerned about dog food and meds, bugger the humans

I buy most of my stuff from VetSupply.com.au or vetnpetdirect.com.au or vetshopaustralia.com.au their cost may be a little dearer but they often have free postage and are Australian owned (so is Pet Circle but they don't deliver free to my area even though it's right next to Redland Bay, they use a courier, not Australia Post)

@Westie mum used to feed her wonderful Mac with blue cheese mixed with other stuff, hopefully she will come here to suggest some of her recipes. You could also try chopped chicken meat that is lightly fried...just at the stage where the outside is brown but still really soft, you can lightly flour it so it browns better (IGA have whole chickens for $3.90 at the moment) I didn't realise Hamish was so crook, just awful for him and you
-
Hamish may like tinned mackerel, it's around $2.50

Hi suziwong66, can't help as my vet is near Victoria Point but it's lovely to see you back B

I understand SG, Wee Saffy was sick with cancer in her bones around her sinus, it's so exhausting and worrying with no good outcome in sight and you don't realise how mentally debilitating it is until you have said goodbye. I am sorry about your dear Patty
-
O no! that's just too sad SG I am so sorry, I know that you have fought and fought for her.
-
What a beautiful girl I am so very sorry she is not three feet from you any more
-
Just a quick question @Jumabaar...is there a generic or a substitute Propalin on the market yet? I now have two leaky old boys instead of one
-
Welcome to Dogzonline Maureen. Regarding the costs of C5 you will find that the charges will be slightly different from surgery to surgery so just phone the local surgeries in your suburb and ask. What suburb are you living in...someone here may be able to recommend their own vet.

I'm so sorry DDD (I'm calling you that as Bunter came from the 'Danny' era) another of the little 'stars' of Dogz is no longer with us. He will be forever in your heart xxx from me

the UK has quite good stats, one would imagine that you would take off at least 85% to show Australian stats (I am extrapolating Dandie Dinmonts) https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/getting-a-dog-or-puppy/finding-the-right-dog/vulnerable-native-breeds/ https://metro.co.uk/2018/03/02/take-good-hard-look-dog-breed-going-extinct-7354675/ It's just pretty sad all round. Interestingly the King Charles Spaniel is on the endangered list

there is this article from 10 years ago https://www.dailyliberal.com.au/story/847976/pet-food-factorys-battles-continue/ but maybe they are still trading...why don't you give them a call http://ibizprofile-au.com/biz/best-care-pet-foods-pty-ltd-dd92vc0rt

Hi Cheryle, and welcome to Dogz I had a look and it appears that Pet Stock and Pet Barn have run out in every store, the only shops I can see are here http://petstoretoyourdoor.com.au/product/box-1-extra-4-x-2-baked-biscuits/ and https://www.petshopdirect.com.au/shop/category/ The postage may be prohibitive though but you may have no option if you really want them
-
thanks for that @Rascalmyshadow I knew Malaseb was good but hadn't realised that Aloveen could be useful as well as soothing. Did you do anything diet-wise?
-
yes Perse, I have been checking my old herbal books, the Vit C and vegetables including some raw (soaked) rolled grains help to lower (so they say) blood temperature which helps. I will suggest infused calendula, neem leaves and chickweed as a topical wash, these links appear to have the most economical items https://www.australherbs.com.au/shop/item/chickweed-herb https://www.australherbs.com.au/shop/item/neem-leaf-organic https://countrypark.com.au/product/calendula-petals/ A pity there doesn't appear to be a veterinary solution available
