  1. I had posted the following in the Health/Nutrition/Grooming forum after FD26 had asked a similar question on the 22nd Jan... I have BowWowMeow insurance for my Westies, Penny and Mac, it was the only one that insured for a reasonable cost dogs that are over 9 years old, and they will only insure for accident/injury after that age. I only had the insurance a few weeks when Penny got a pig knuckle stuck in her oesophagus.....$960 (or near enough to that figure)...I faxed the vets invoice to them (after I paid the vet) and the money was in my account 9 days later less $100 excess. They paid as it was an accident. BowWowMeow insurance is around $34 for both dogs, direct debit per month. I also have RACQ insurance which is around $50 annually, per dog, and you can take it out as an extra clause in the home and contents insurance.(I have an idea that NRMA also do something similar) I have it as if one of the dogs is sick (ie, not and accident/injury). They only cover up to $500 (there is a $50 excess, so the most you can get per claim is $450) I did claim on that for Penny when she had a tumour removed from inside her bum, and Mac when his paw swelled up, they covered all of Mac's (less the $50) as his vet fee was under $500 and I got back $450 from Penny's operation...her specialists costs were HEAPS more! Hope this help you a little. I AM PRETTY HAPPY I TOOK OUT INSURANCE!

  3. Hi, I bought a "Smooth Soft Canine Cooler Bed"...it is made in USA...yep something that is NOT made in China! I have had it for 4 months now, it took Penny and Mac a while to lie on it, (I had to put a towel on it at first), it is foam or something similar and you fill with water so it is like a waterbed, it felt strange to them I think, that's why they would only go on it when the towel was on it but the towel gradually got crinkled to one end and they are fine lying on it now. They love lying on it and it is quite a lot cooler than the floor or their hammock beds, and better for Penny's little elbows. I have just tried to buy another one as they both won't fit on it these hot days but the price is a bit steep. I originally bought it (I think) from CrazySales.com.au I think I paid around $45, they don't have any more, but they have this one which I bought yesterday... 'Medium Sized Pets Cooler/Warmer Bed Pad for Dogs/Cats' O blast, I went to check to give you the item number and they are obviously out of stock, I googled it tho' and someone on ebay has 2 of them for $23.95, it is a large size so that's not too badly priced. It appears that one side is for summer and you turn it over for winter. hope this helps.

  6. So sorry to hear about SuzieQ Ron, it is like a big hole has appeared in your heart isn't it. I reckon the part you miss most is the sound of the little footsteps behind you. One of those pups IS the one you are looking for though! RIP little Suzie :D
  7. My two Westies, Penny and Mac, spend a great deal of time looking for otters under the mulch and around the banana palms, no luck yet in finding any though!
  8. woops... forgot to put in the link, here it is http://www.bafflebobs.com/
  9. Queensland. I stayed at 'Baffle Bob's Caravan Park' a few years back, it was excellent. It is just North of Bundaberg..take the road to Rules Beach. Cabins, and caravans for staying in as well as tent and van sites. There is a boat ramp onto Baffle Creek so you can go fishin'. Nola & Bob were great hosts!
  10. There was a female long haired Shepherd in a farm-type block down the road from where we live. The owners had put one of those underground electric fence wires in and she wore the collar/receiver that (I think) gives them a shock if they go near the underground fence. She had a problem with other dogs and she would to test the fence during the day (her owners usually switched it off at night and let her & her kennel-mate roam and sometimes forgot to turn it back on, yep..I know!)...I was walking past with my old dog Harry-the-Dirty-Dog and she came rushing out at us, the only thing I had in my hand was the bag of Harry-poo, anyway I was waving round this bag of poo and shouting and the dog backed off...I then threw gravel after her....gave me a bit of a fright though! I now resort to carrying a small can of insect repellent...I figure that a squirt at the face will be a deterrent (or is that a no-no?)
  11. I know what it feels like to have an empty space in your heart when you have lost your little mate. Hugs from me and my two Westies.
