  1. If you go to http://www.petsure.com.au/ they have 12 different pet insurances listed. They are all owned by the same underwriter (I think I have that right) but the costs are different with each of the companies listed If you click on each of them you will find that most have a section that will give you a quote on-line.
  2. thanks for that Sue & Cindy, I couldn't figure out how to post a link after a friend sent me the video in an email...I got a bit confused edited as I can't spell either!
  3. You may have seen this short video before but it's still pretty good! (I hope the link works) ultimate_back_scratcher.wmv I can't get the link to work, never mind, just Google it...it's the one that says '30 sec - 14 Nov 2007' and it has 5 stars
  4. Just got a 7 year old female Westie called Brodie, none of us really like the name, we were going to change it to Maisie but it has ended up being Daisy. She comes when we call 'Hey Dog, Yoo Hoo, Oi, so obviously she is going to come when Daisy (or Maisie) is called. Pity I still haven't managed to get her to know the the meaning of word 'sit' yet!
  5. That's bad news Pugmum. I am not a pushy-natural-remedies-type-person all the time and I am pretty pro antibiotics/cortisone/modern drugs when required but it maybe worth your time to Google the words "Herb Robert for bladder cancer". It may help.
  6. Well I know that NOW Showdog I got lazy one time and gave them a brush and thought they could do with a 'bit' of a trim but got carried away! hahaha, be sure your sins will find you out! I won't be doing that dumb thing again.
  7. Thanks Poodle3081, I have sent the blades off to Colin and also emailed him for his advice when he looks at them. My westies were rescue westies and I don't 'strip' them, just clip, so their hair is not as coarse as the stripped westies, though not soft like a maltese or cavalier, (I like the wiry feel of westies) I don't use conditioners or bathe them very regularly so they don't have really soft hair.
  8. Hi Clyde, hahaha...I had just finished packing the blades in bubble wrap ready to post to Nicestman when I saw your post, so thanks for the recommendation!
  9. Hi there Boronia,if the blade cut first of when you got the clipper with the same blades, and you have clippered a few coats,it is most likely they need a touch-up. When using the plastic combs it is best to use a number #30 blade, the fur doesn't get between the blade and comb so easy. Below is some info on the correct blades required to do Bishons,I hope this helped you. nicestman77. BICHON "Show" trim, 1" coat #30 & 1 1/4" UC Pet trim, short #4F Matted strip down #7F or #5F Stomach #10 Pads #15 Hello nicestman77, thanks for the info, now could you give me the run-down for Westies..pet trim (I'm sorry I wasn't clear in my post, I meant I'd bought them from a Biche-person and I am a Westie-person) I would need the sizes for their short bits and long bits. Am I correct in thinking that the black comb-like thingos are called 'blades' Does it matter what the teeth (silver cutting teeth) are? mine have 30-15-10 engraved in them. Can you suggest a person I can send the cutting teeth to...would they sharpen them without having to send the whole handset. That may do with the 20 questions at the moment!
  10. I am pretty sure the reason my clippers are not cutting is that either they are blunt and need the blades sharpened, or, they have the wrong blades. I originally bought them from ebay and the previous owner had a Bichon Frise. They worked sort-of ok at first but hardly cut at all now even if I change the black-comb-like-sizing-depth-thingos (well, what are they called? ) They appear to be adjusted correctly. If I removed the teeth/cutter-bars and sent them to a clipper sharpener person, can you suggest someone who doesn't charge an arm and a leg to sharpen them. Hope someone can help, thanks.
  11. Maybe some of you DOLers may be interested on their newsletter page they say free shipping on selected kennels and it says..... "stocking 10 products for “kennels-free-ship” at the top of the page on the link below http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/search/kenne...3-_-search-_-43
  12. A couple of frozen bananas dipped in melted carob drops for Sally and really rich chocolate cake which is ABSOLUTELY BAD FOR DOGS so then you can eat that all up yourself
  13. Yoo Hoo don't forget us Westies...low shedding
  14. lovely dogs, stupid owner (or is that being a tad harsh?)
  15. We put in a doggie door for Penny and Mac. It took only four or five goes for Pen to work it out (she is 12)..we put little pieces of cheese on one side and when she pushed the door to get through we repeated the same on the other side. Her guts rule her brain so it was soon worked out...all fine and dandy until Mac (who thinks everything is out to get him) decided to follow her while the door was swinging back...you guessed it...it clonked him on the noggin. It was funny/awful at the time as we could see what was going to happen and weren't quick enough to stop it. It took weeks for Mac to push through it and I still have to hold it open sometimes for him to go through. When he wants to go out sometimes he comes to get me. So, if you have two dogs DON'T teach them how to use the doggie-door at the same time! BAD MOVE!
  16. Yep, Westies inhale their bones, the little buggers. I can't give mine chicken necks...they sort-of slurp them up without chewing, choke, then vomit it all up again, I had to grab it before it was re-eaten!!!! Try chicken wings with the fat cut off, they at least have to chew them and if they get stuck (so far they haven't stuck) it it'll be fairly easy to get out of their mouths as they have some length to them. Chicken wings are the BEST...they love them! Why not come over to the 'Westies' thread Wings and post some photos of your little bloke. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...&hl=westies
  17. I had tried chicken mince from Lenards when I needed chicken for my old dog Harry, He wouldn't eat it and when I gave it a sniff it stunk of bleach, I mean it was really gross! I have been buying turkey mince (human consumption) from Woollies, it comes pre-packed in purple/mauve trays and you can often pick it up for around $4 for a 500g tray. It is Ingham brand. Sometimes they have wings as well which is a feast for little dogs (watch the dogs tho' as they tend to eat them a bit fast) I think turkey mince has less fat than chicken though.
  18. A friend sent me this so I thought you may get a laugh...a really useful dog!
  19. Hi Steve, I have emailed you asking if you can send two books
  20. Some pictures of my little mate Harry-The-Dirty-Dog, he was dumped at a dam near Blackwater and was thought to be around a year old then. I had him for 12 years, I did miss his footsteps when he went.
  21. You are correct Sammy_ballerina and Persephone, I thought it was my computer screen (it is pretty crook!) that made him appear a different colour, but looking at the piccie again he is QUITE different, though dog is still pretty good looking (pretty tough looking as well!). The picture of him was the 9th photo in the link I posted about Cesar's Daddy so I presumed he was Daddy, sorry.
  22. and if you didn't know that Daddy was a softie you would be pretty worried with this photo! http://www.ryanmcdaniel.me/page19/files/pi...ucybigdaddy.jpg
  23. There are some pretty good photos here... http://images.google.com.au/images?client=...ved=0CCIQsAQwBQ
  24. Dog rescued 2km out to sea http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2010/02/1...local-news.html
  25. Sandgrubber, you may find this interesting http://gabbylewis.vox.com/library/posts/tags/charity/ it includes this paragraph... 'BAWA have received 75,000 rabies vaccines donated by the Australian Government at a cost of about $1.80 each which they are using to protect Ubud’s dogs and monkeys'. There is a paragraph as well about Bali rabies in the following link http://www.vetsbeyondborders.org/
