Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Just popping in to see how things are going. be well Jed -
Yippeeeeeee!, I don't have to hem them pesky little squares. The ladies at the Russell Island Church have a clothes/brick-a-brack sale here every Saturday, they also have pieces of new material so I will buy (probably a dollar a piece!...O NO, that price is just too high! ) some to go amongst the more decorative squares to set them off. I'm all fired up now!
-
I now have my material. As a COMPLETE novice could someone please tell me...after I have washed the material, do I stitch a special backing onto each 6 1/2" piece OR do I just hem each piece then send it to SBT303. Thanks
-
OK, now I am all keen...found out there is a craft group nearby so I well ask the ladies to help me make some squares out of this material I saw on ebay (I hope it is ok to put the link in) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/JAPANESE-RETRO-KAWA...=item1c0a7d5253 Hahaha...it has Westies on it...NO ONE ELSE BUY THIS OR YOU ARE IN BIG TROUBLE! there is another good design ebay # 120457634054 there are also some on oztion http://www.oztion.com.au/buy/auctions.aspx...amp;i=30&d= Do I put the backing on the squares after I have washed the material and make/hem it so it is 6 1/2" square?

I think it is a great idea. It wouldn't have to be anything fancy but will carry the thoughts of us all. I think that is a good idea Anna...I can't sew to save myself but could probably make a couple of squares if I had the INSTRUCTIONS/A MAP/HOW-TO-DIRECTIONS/PATTERNS FOR QUILT-MAKING-DUMMIES

Thanks for the info poodlefan and oakway, I had another look on-line...Googled 'shampoo for wire coats' this time instead of shampoo for WHW terriers, there were a few sites but so far this one seems interesting http://www.laserlites.com.au/coattype3.shtml I have emailed a couple of their distributors to find postage costs, their product is reasonable enough.

Hahaha..clicked on that link and had a heart attack!

The dogs are starting to get pretty dirty again (we live on a dirt road so it's hard to keep them clean) so it's coming up for their 3-4 monthly bath. What shampoo is good for Westies?, I want some ideas on a shampoo that WON'T make their hair soft. I need the shampoo to clean the hair but leave it feeling nice an coarse. I don't strip them, just clip, so it is pretty hard to get the same bristley feel to them when clipping. Any ideas would be appreciated Thanks

A few years back I ONCE bought chicken mince for my old dog Harry...considering he would eat possum poop, rotten eggs (he found an old chook nest!) and anything else that may look like food I was surprised when he wouldn't touch the mince. I smelt it and it stunk of chlorine bleach, I was pretty disapointed as I had to chuck it all out. here is a link on an old DOL forum.... http://www.dolforums.com.au/lofiversion/in...hp/t118128.html I tend to buy Ingams turkey mince at the poultry section of Woollies now.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

I read this some time ago and saved it on my computer...It is an appropiate message for the beautiful Magnus TBCSITW and his mates... "I think their spirit goes up there, to Sirius, the Dog Star. I can't imagine anything else that would keep it burning so bright and constant." --- Captain Ezra Harper, from the novel, DogStar I am in tears, this is so sad, poor Jed. -

I am in touch with Mandy at Doggie hair Dooz at Caboolture, I asked her if she knew Jed, she emailed back saying... Hi A, No I don't know her but I am more than happy to help in any way I can, how horrendous - perhaps my Grooming Salon/Shop in Caboolture (which is the next suburb to Bellmere) could be a drop off point for any items that people may want to donate and then I can arrange to deliver them to the lady at a suitable time? Let me know if you have contacts that would like some assistance - my shop number is 5495 3372 Kind regards Mandy I have asked her to contact her friends to look out for Magnus (Old, Gold, Large for a Cocker, and has big feet) edited to correct spelling mistakes -

Great idea Boronia. I have already donated, but am prepared to also donate a crate for the cause Hi dyzney, I have a rather large soft crate (it's like a canvas cubbie house with windows) that I don't need so would be happy to donate...What do you think Steve?...can you run an auction? -

Steve/Julie...is there someway MDBA PACERS can have an DOL-online auction?.. where DOLers can put up some merchandise for other DOLers to bid on. I am sure that many of us would like to donate something and may be having difficulty in giving a monetary donation and who have dog-stuff that is longer need and is still in good condition that we would donate--the money to be put into MDBA PACERS bank account. Is this possible? Another idea is to contact Oztion Auctions and see if they would help in creating a MDBA PACERS auction. -
He most certainly isn't handsome Nekhbet, I kinda liked him though, he looked as if he needs a BIG cuddle and a bone to chew on to cheer him up

Is this article about one of a DOL poster? http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland...00512-uvdu.html Women injured and animals killed in overnight fires MARISSA CALLIGEROS May 12, 2010 - 7:56AM Two people have been injured and and a number of animals killed or hurt in separate house fires in South-East Queensland overnight. At 3.15am fire engulfed a dog breeder's home in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, where at least 20 dogs were kenneled. Firefighters battled the fire at the Ellwood Drive property in Bellmere for nearly an hour, but at least two dogs died in the blaze. RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said one adult dog, two puppies and a cat which suffered smoke inhalation and severe burns were also taken to an animal shelter. "Our ambulance is now going to pick up another 10 dogs from the property that survived, but are believed to be injured,” Mr Beatty said. He said firefighters feared several more dogs may have died in the blaze. "We do not know exactly how many dogs died inside the house. Firefighters did say there were a number of bodies there." Meanwhile a mother-of-two suffered burns to her airways when fire engulfed her family's home in Goodna, Ipswich. The family of four managed to escape the burning home after they were woken by a smoke alarm, but the house was gutted. Firefighters were called to the Arkins Cresent home about 11.40pm, however they found it engulfed in flames and could do little to save the property. The woman was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for treatment. Fire investigators are due to scour the two properties today in a bid to determine the causes of the blazes.

Lamb Flaps From The Fresh Meat Store
Boronia replied to Clyde's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep, use a hatchet, lie the ribs over a handy log (and I bet ya don't have a log handy ) and chop chop chop them up in correct sized pieces, chopping is HEAPS easier than a knife or scissors, if you don't have a hatchet an old handsaw will do the job ok. -
Thanks Nekhbet, I didn't think he was that as he seemed bigger and kinda didn't look as tho' he had Maltese in him that's why it had me stumped!, I was thinking of a bigger dog starting with 'M', perhaps he is malt X Standard Poodle...the mind boggles, let's not go there
-
Ok, I think I am having a senior moment here but I have wracked my brains and I can't figure out what a moodle is ...obviously a poodle/something or maybe a typo (tho' the 'p' and the 'm' are a fair way away from each other on the keyboard). Poor dog looks so confused, I hope someone gives him a home soon. http://www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/web/guest/lost-pets edited to include the link to the Fraser Coast Pound (another senior moment!)

I see that K-Mart has Westie-sized life jackets for $15, be handy for all the smaller dogs in case they are pushed over the side by those two elephants that can't see behind them.
