My three (Westies) love them, it took at least a month for them to get used to them, I had to disguise it with a thin piece of foam and a towel (which would have made it hot to lie on ) but after they got used to resting on it they spend most of their sleeping-in-the-day-time on it. If the day gets too hot they lie on the tiles in the bathroom. I bought the Soothe Soft Canine Cooler last year when it was on special at Deals Direct (I think) it was around $40-something. Penny likes it best, I think it feels nice on her old-bones.

I was browsing ebay for a slide and a sturdy table and came across this kids play gym... it could be adapted for some fun-type agility at home (perhaps ). So far it is as cheap as chips! I was walking near local supermarket and came across a woman asking everyone who went past if they wanted a pup. She said that they were 7 weeks old, I asked if they were microchipped and she said they were not as they were only 7 weeks old, I said that I thought they had to be 8 weeks and microchipped before they went to their new homes...this was not the best suggestion as she kinda lost-it and screamed out for me to go away (I did )...I was going to ask if they were wormed but thought I had better run away before I got me 'ed ripped off. Anyway, my question is...what is the legal age for homing pups in Qld and what is the age that pups have to be microchipped? Poor pups, poor pups' mother

Same here Clyde, I had used frontline spray successfully for years on my old terrierxeverything Harry and then it just stopped working, he got fleas as well as a tick so I switched to Advantix and it worked well for both fleas & ticks. I now use the Advantix on my Westies and they are flealess and tickless.

I was browsing ebay (as you do ) and saw this which may be good for us pushie-people who want to take a dog to the park...it is p/u only in the Leumeah, Campbelltown area so no good for me here in Qld. The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) was running the mass vaccination program in conjunction with the provincial government, which previously tried to stop the outbreak by culling thousands of stray dogs. "Rabies remains a threat to both human and animal populations and still kills 55,000 people annually," WSPA Chief Executive Officer Mike Baker said in a statement. "Bali’s multi-stakeholder approach will prove once again that the only effective solution to the rabies problem is one that combines compassion with scientific knowledge." He said the vaccination agreement would save the lives of tens of thousands of dogs on the Hindu-majority island and "create a historic reference in the global fight against rabies." Experts said culling was not the most effective or humane way to deal with rabies outbreaks. Bali animal husbandry agency chief Putu Sumantra said it would take up to four months to carry out the vaccinations. The project was supported by the Australian government, which donated 370,000 doses of the dog rabies vaccine, WSPA said.

I didn't know that Nekhbet...now I do! The ones we ate on the farm were usually the spare roosters and they were usually a year or so old...just beginning to give the hens grief by chasing them around the paddock. Our big Sussex rooster was worn to a frazzle trying to chase off the young upstarts!

Has anyone noticed that the cooked chook bones bought from the butcher are not as hard and brittle as they used to be years ago. I have noticed that even the bones on a raw wing was softer than the bones on the chooks we used to kill on the farm. perhaps it is the hot water they plunge them in to remove the feathers, or perhaps it is because they have been in cages so have had no exercise.

I went with Bow Wow Meow, which aren't the cheapest but do cover older dogs...up to 7 or 8 years for accident & sickness, over 8 accident only, (unless they have been insured for A & S before turning 8 then they stay the same)

you may find it cheaper if you went to St V de P or a Lifeline or Save the Children charity store and checked out their single-size quilt covers...these are good as they are already stitched up and quite often you only have to open the bottom end...then you have a long tube and instead of sewing them you can stick them together with contact adhesive (cheap in the H'ware section of Crazy Clark...is in a blue tube on a cardboard backed packet) or even 2/H curtains with the rubber backing removed. Perhaps not in a Hawaiian pattern though
