You could pop to your local pottery group and see if one of the better potters could make you a coil bowl (much more sturdy than one thrown on the wheel)). Us-potter-type-people no longer use lead/heavy metal based glazes (though they are still available) and at least you will know you have a food-safe bowl. ask the costs of making one while you are there, as some potters think their work is worth heaps more than it should be :-D

I thought I'd post this in this forum rather than the 'News' as more people read this forum http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/03...ion=justinRSPCA warning after dogs die eating camel meat By Gail Liston A study has found dogs can die after eating human-grade camel meat. (AAP: Paul Miller) A new study has found pet dogs have died after eating human-grade camel meat. A report in this month's Australian Veterinary Journal cites several cases of severe and sometimes fatal liver disease in dogs that had eaten camel meat containing the acid indospicine. Veterinary pathologist Dr Louise FitzGerald says it is a toxic amino acid found in plants in Australia's arid regions. She says camels like eating the plants, so there is always potential for the meat to contain the toxin. "What happens is that camels graze this plant, then the toxins from this plant accumulates in their system and then the toxin is then passed on to dogs when the dogs eat their meat," she said. "We know that dogs are particularly sensitive to this toxin." The RSPCA is warning pet owners to avoid feeding their dogs camel meat. The association's Dr Jade Norris says the pet food industry needs to be better regulated. "Until the pet food industry and the pet meat manufacturers can guarantee that they are aware of this toxin and that they're taking adequate steps to safeguard their products, then we'd be saying that as an absolute guarantee avoid feeding camel meat until industry can reassure everyone that these safeguards are in place." A spokeswoman for Food Standards Australia, Lorraine Bellinger, says the authority is investigating the implications for human consumption of camel meat. "Although there have been no reported cases of illness in people, we are reviewing studies to see if humans can also be affected by this toxin," she said. "It's important to point out that dogs, as with other animals, can react really differently to foods than humans will. "For example, the case that most people would recognise is chocolate, which can be extremely toxic for dogs." Tags: human-interest, animals, australia, nt, alice-springs-0870, darwin-0800

Penny, who is 12, and spayed 4-5 years ago, comes to watch the dogs when we go to dog obedience. There is a little 1 y/o desexed black poodle called Beau who Penny waddles over to check-out, THEN she gets all straight legged, pokes her Westie tail and ears high and does these little tarty-come-on dances around him. She looks about 2 years old :-)

Yucca Extract For Plaque Prevention--where Do I Buy It?
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Erny, I have only used around 1/2 the bottle so I can't be sure BUT as I bought one of the double-ended dental picker-thingies from Sway and was using that on Daisy (she is good to do stuff on, so easy to work with) I notice that she had a fair bit of tartar on her canines and some molars. I picked around for a bit then tapped the tartar with the steel handle of the nail clippers (well...they were handy) and the tartar crumbled off. Maybe the product loosens the tartar or maybe I was just lucky. Penny has to have her teeth done fairly regularly as she only has a few on one side and 3 bottom ones at the front, so some of her molars haven't got the corresponding tooth to grind against. She has lost he front teeth from chewing her wire cage when she belonged to a BYB I will continue giving them the product until it's finished and then give an update but I won't be buying it again. (thinks...I must NOT believe all the advertising on dog products) -

Yucca Extract For Plaque Prevention--where Do I Buy It?
Boronia replied to Boronia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This is the info about it.....I have put in bold the part that is most relevant to me Using a special blend of ingredients, this product helps eliminate plaque and tartar build-up and odor causing compounds in your pet's digestive system. What Makes it Work Yucca Schidigera, a natural Yucca plant extract, combined with Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide, makes Plaque Off very effective. Yucca aids in the absorption of important nutrients, which decreases odors. It reduces breath and waste odors caused by ammonia based compounds and reduces urine acidity, which prevents brown grass stains. Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide is an oxidizing agent which enhance the exchange of oxygen at the cellular level. It oxidizes hydrogen sulfide and ammonia molecules which reduces breath and waste odors. In the mouth Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide breaks up food films to help prevent plaque and tartar build up. -
I have bought a 237ml bottle of EZ DOG Plaque Off which contains Purified water, Anthium Dioxide, Yucca Schidigera, Mint oil and Sodium benzoate...this bottle cost me $24.95 It is the Yucca extract I am after, as it appears to be good for a plaque preventative/remover and also good for digestion, so does anyone know where I can buy some extract or powder I can add to the dogs drinking water?... it seems ridiculous to be adding purified water to their drinking water... I reckon I am paying megadollars for that purified water :-)

There are my three in the photo you took Daisygirl in the Fashions on the Field...they look hot and have their 'We really can't be bothered doing this stuff' faces on Mac peed on the announcer's tent pole on the way out just to prove the point and to show how common he really is. I liked Cassie and her owner and the Peiradise display...neat dogs!

Hi SarahJ88, I see you are at Alexandra Hills...well that's not too far from the vets at Koala Park Vet Surgery-it's just 1k or so south of Koala Park Victoria Point shopping centre/Pattens Big Gun area, it's on the Eastern side of the road just past a retirement home on the Cleveland-Redland Bay Rd. Give them a ring and ask them as they price on the size of the dog...32076041 They are pretty good as vets go, Daisy (Westie) was desexed for $199.60, so you can find cheaper but they are pretty good people and don't give you BS. The ladies at Capalaba Pet Foods recommend them - they go there also :-D

Here is a little more news http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland...0221-1b1z5.html Report by Marissa Calligeros at the Brisbane Times..... A highly-endangered monkey stolen from Brisbane's Alma Park Zoo last year has astonishingly been found safe and well interstate. The female Cotton-top tamarin was handed into Symbio Wildlife Park at Helensburgh, south of Sydney, yesterday after being found in Melbourne. Keepers at the wildlife park initially believed the monkey was named Rico, among seven stolen from the zoo, in May last year. Advertisement: Story continues below A 34-year-old Victorian man yesterday brought a monkey to the wildlife park that he said his friend had bought for him on the internet. "Unfortunately it was a case of mistaken identity by the police," the wildlife park owner John Radnidge said. After a physical examination and an analysis of the monkey's microchip, keepers discovered the returned tamarin was in fact Conchetta. "I can confirm that the animal belongs to Alma Park in Brisbane. It turned up in Melbourne and she's now in our care." "The private individual who had the animal in his care was doing some research on the internet and came across the story [about Rico]. "He flew up in his private plane ... to return the monkey to us yesterday. "We determined immediately that it wasn't our animal. They are absolutely thrilled in Brisbane." Conchetta and her male partner Tonto were stolen from their enclosure on October 9. Tonto was found dead in a nearby housing estate in Dakabin the following day. All hope was soon lost for Conchetta, who was pregnant and not expected to survive outside the zoo. The fate of Conchetta's twins is not yet known. Staff at Alma Park Zoo are overjoyed at the news a spokeswoman said. ‘‘We’ve got goosebumps,’’ she said. ‘‘After all this time we had lost hope of having her back alive. Considering the terrible fate that was met by her mate Tonto who was beaten to death during the heist. We just can’t wait to see her.’’ The spokeswoman said Conchetta will be kept in quarantine for a short time after she returns home and then housed near other Cotton-top tamarins for companionship, while a new mate is organised through the official zoo network. ‘‘Conchetta appears to be in good health and will be undergoing a thorough veterinary examination,’’ she said. ‘‘She will remain at Symbio for a short period to allow her to acclimate back to a zoo setting, before she is flown to Queensland to be reunited with her keepers.’’ Two teenage boys aged 17 and 18 were charged over the Symbio thefts last year. The illegal trade in wildlife is believed to be worth billions and the species most commonly stolen are reptiles, birds, fish, insects and plants, the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts said. Investigations are continuing. - with Glenda Kwek and here is a photo if the link doesn't work
