'doesn't like dogs'.... naughty son, didn't you raise him properly Nina ??!!!! fifi I was going to say she can't be a very nice person then if she doesn't like dogs....but decided to keep my mouth shut ! The kids know that my first question when they have a new girlfriend is always do they like dogs -

Yep, know what you mean! I'm known as the CDL too One of my son's has a new girlfriend. I asked him if he was bringing her up for Xmas, he said definately not she doesn't like dogs!!( hope that relationship doesn't end up being permanent, could cause a lot of problems ) -
Have always fed 2 meals a day when they get passed the puppy stage. Usually just biscuits in the morning, then a bigger meal at night. Like others have said, reduces the chances of getting bloat.

Great book ! Thanks for posting that link. Must admit I prefer the old style gsd too. They almost look deformed now with the long sloping back..can't be good for them surely. Love the dreadlock poodles too...amazing.

Grover Is Really Sick - Another Change
ninahartland replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
You poor thing..very worrying..all up and down like a yoyo with him. Don't really have any ideas to add except the wood idea like others have said. You seem to have covered just about everything else. I guess it's hardly unlikely to be the crate if he's had it for ages but I guess there wouldn't be any harm in keeping him out of it for a while to see if it makes any difference. Really hope you get to the bottom of it very soon! -

Oh no ! Was really happy to see things were looking up before . Sending hugs to you guys and thinking of you and Grover -
You poor things! I really feel for you. It's devastating to have lost a family pet in the first place and then not to be even sure you have been given the right ashes back by a company that is supposed to be in a caring business RIP Princess and big hugs to you

Grover Is Really Sick - Another Change
ninahartland replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Keeping everything crossed here for Grover too. Awful thing to happen today. My last wolfhound had an enlarged heart, never really wanted to run much, got very panty (even in cooler weather ) and very standy. He would just stand for ages with a vacant look. Hugs to you guys -
Vaccine Reaction Or Something Else
ninahartland replied to pixie_meg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Took a fair while to go away...I just noticed them getting smaller and smaller as he matured . If I remember rightly one of the vets that saw him said if I left them they'd go on their own by the time he was about 2... and he was right. Very hard to get them to lie on soft things though, especially this weather where the tiles are the coolest thing around -
Vaccine Reaction Or Something Else
ninahartland replied to pixie_meg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Aaw ! Gorgeous pics pixiemeg, what a beautiful boy he is ! Looks like a hygroma to me...my wolfhound had them on both elbows when he was a pup and having never had a dog before with them it was very worrying ! The advice I got from vets and breeder was to leave them and they eventually go away themselves (which is what happened as he matured ). To drain them just creates a site for infection and there's no guarantee they won't return ! You just have to put up with people asking 'what are those big lumps on your dogs legs ' all the time -
Think I've seen somewhere that putting a little pineapple in their meal helps to stop the poo eating, you could give it a try anyway
-
Sorry I don't have any advice Minky, have never had anything to do with parvo (touch wood ) but just want to say what a horrible time you're going through and sending good thoughts for the rest of the pups to pull through

Yes, I used to do this all the time with my lot. I now use Kiltix collars which do fleas as well, even cheaper The down side is the collar is visible on shorthaired dogs, but my lot are all hairy so can't be seen

Vetmedin 2.5mg. Anyone Have A Dog On This?
ninahartland replied to fiery_di's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My last Wolfhound was on Vetmedin for about the last 18 months of his life. It was expensive and I can't remember the dose he was on but the vet at the time (about 4 years ago ) said it was the best drug around for his heart condition. I like to think it gave him a little bit longer with us anyway -
I buy the Homebrand Macherel in oil for my lot. One tin between 4 and mixed in with their kibble. They usually get this once or twice a week.

Please Have Diesel In Your Thoughts
ninahartland replied to DieselWeisel's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just been reading this thread about Deisel and all the things you have gone through with him. Some of the posts brought tears to my eyes, then read another one when he's improving and made me smile. I have no advice except to say no one could do more than you are doing now for him, he's a lucky guy to have you , and you him. Thinking of you and sending big hugs to you both  -
Does Anyone Separate Their Dogs When They Go Out?
ninahartland replied to geo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
No, never separate mine when we go out. They're not alone much anyway, but on the odd occasion they have been , I'm sure they sleep most of the time anyway  I know the unforseen can always happen though. -
I've used Polaramine on my gsd. Vet said give 1 tablet a day, I found it helped a little but wouldn't say it was a huge success
-
Aaaww ! So sad...video brought tears to my eyes. RIP Stella We know the giant breeds don't have as long but to have lost her at 3 years...devastating. My last Wolfie had DCM, he passed away at 6 years

Whereabouts are you in Qld Sheridan ? I've noticed since moving here (just outside Gympie ) that I haven't seen one mozzie!! I'm sure if they were here they would've found me by now I'm wondering if it's the same with fleas. Nina Hope your girl's ok Linda, that looks pretty awful !

Reaction Of Chinese People To My Dog
ninahartland replied to GSDowner's topic in General Dog Discussion
Haha! I know what you mean ! Riley is the same kind of magnet for mobile phone pics! I even had a council animal control car stop once when I was out, was thinking OMG what have I done wrong, but all they wanted was to take his photo -
I don't eat meat, haven't done since I was 12 (a long time ago, haha ) but it wouldn't ever occur to me not to give the dogs meat ! I still cook meat for the other humans, just handle it with rubber gloves
