  1. Hehh, heeh, I know. I actually did have a bit of a time clipping Oscar. I think I should have cut the long fur with scissors first??? then tried the clippers. Don't know. This was his first ever clipping. The cat fur is very dense so you will have to keep going over it to tidy it up. Mind you mine look pretty tragic sometimes too - I just tell them it is 2 weeks between a bad haircut and good one
  2. Sorry Becky but Oscar looks pretty tragic Did you find the dogs much easier than the cat to get even? The dogs look great
  3. I'm from Victoria, so double check me - but I think what you've "recently heard" is a cross-wired interpretation of NSW law. My understanding is that it is illegal to import them (without a permit), but that restricted use is permitted? Here in Victoria, you need to have the 'ok' from a Vet (as far as I can see, nothing in the legislation dictates that the Vet must grant permission in writing) AND the collar must be used under the supervision of and/or under instruction by a qualified dog trainer. I'm not 100% how this compares with NSW???? I heard the recent change from Innotek so I would presume it is right but would love to know if they are wrong
  4. I was recently told that it is now illegal to use them in NSW even with a vet's certificate, however, it is still perfectly legal to use an electric containment system
  5. This one is not a collar,it is a box to put in the area, and is supposed to be effective for multiple dogs. I hope it works
  6. I have just ordered a stop barking box thingy I will let you know if it works or not. My problem is the neighbour's dog barks whenever someone is near our joint fence which sets mine off. I am hoping this will stop the other dog barking as well as, unfortunately, the owners never try to stop their dog from barking. Here is a link to what I have ordered. PetSafe also makes a similar one and is seen on Ebay quite often. http://www.gooddeals.com/shopexd.asp_Q_id_E_244
  7. Check with your vet but I am pretty sure you can use Revolution or Advantage on her when she is 6 weeks old.
  8. I wonder if she has clipper burn or a reaction to a shampoo or something? What did the vet say when he saw her?
  9. I have been told by a couple of vets that there is no need to heartworm test a dog under 6 months old. I have also been told by the same vets that the annual heartworm injection and the monthly tablets are used to treat mild cases of heartworm.
  10. I had this discussion with my vet about 6 months ago and he said at the time, that he has not seen a case of heartworm in this area for over 2 years
  11. I clip my long-haired dogs. I had a Shih Tzu and had a groomer come to the house a few times and she showed me what to do. Sometimes the clips are pretty tragic (too short) but it is only 2 weeks between a bad haircut and a good one I now have a Poodle x that I had professionally groomed by a friend and she explained to me what to do so I have done her myself this time. I use Wahl clippers and really like them. I also clip my old Persian cats
  12. I thought it was meant for stripping out the undercoat I am still waiting for my Cav girl to grow enough coat so must admit I haven't used mine yet
  13. I've heard great things about the Mars Coat King. Have a look at the link below for photos etc: http://www.groomersmall.com/coat_kings.htm
  14. I am so sorry for your loss Rozzie. Miss Jenny had style and went out with dignity. Rest easy lovely lady.
  15. What a beautiful girl Rest easy Cindy, run fast and free.
  16. Good luck with him Kamuzz. My nearly 5 year old ACD boy still does this
  17. I like his ears the way they are - he is unique Here is a photo of a foster pup I had where both his ears curled backwards. As an adult both ears are upright.
  18. So sorry for your loss Mr and Mrs Roz. the old doggies are the best and are lucky that they have you to take them on to give them a lovely end to their life. RIP Jump, run fast and free
  19. A vet in Wollongong told me they had an 8 week old kitten in with tick paralysis about 3 weeks ago. The rain has brought the tick season on early this year.
  20. I have a Poodle x rescue girl that is about 10 years old. She chews everything! Yesterday she chewed the rescue pup's 2 squeeky toys up in about 5 minutes! She was a woman with a mission to watch! She has lovely teeth
  21. I would use what the manufacturer recommends as the products do seem to differ. They may be crying if they are hungry or have wind - with the kittens I always rub their backs and tummies gently and sometimes get a little burp.
  22. I am not sure about the quantities for tube feeding puppies - sorry. Are there instructions on the formula you are using? However if you put this in the Breeder's Forum I am sure you will get heaps of replies. Are the puppies gaining weight steadily?
  23. There was a thread in rescue a few months ago on an Australian product called Meat E Vites. I saw the product a couple of weeks ago at our local pet food supplier and bought a bag - 20 kg for $22. The dogs love it and are doing really well on it!!!
