  1. Bless 'em, they're too bloody minded to die young lol. Awesome!
  2. I'm loving the stories about the old ACDs as my boy is now 12! :D
  3. This is an interesting link I found. Hopefully someone that knows how to manage will be along to help you. :) http://www.doggonesafe.com/Signs_of_Anxiety
  4. My Cav barks in what I thought I was an over-excited way when there is any chance their might be some food for her. She also does this when something new appears on a regular walk, however, when walking in a new area she doesn't. A vet visit showed me that this was, in fact, anxiety.
  5. Happy Anniversay Poodlefan (you'll always be PF to me)! And I just love that photo of Lily showing everyone that she is the Queen of everything at your house. ETA: It's my 10th anniversary this year too! I joined to learn about rescue which I became heavily involved in after I lost my elderly cattle dog cross. Now I'm just a plain old pet owner.
  6. Just to clarify, it was a waterfront and maritime dispute.
  7. They have some good stuff on that site! Thanks for sharing.
  8. I'm surprised you get any sleep Kirty, with all that happening in your bed!
  9. My understanding is that rescue cats are permitted to be advertised in the rescue forum.
  10. The play biting and chasing of your feet is probably starting the dog's prey drive and that's why she gets worked up. The best way to manage it is not to let the dog see the playing. I have a cattle dog and his prey drive kicks in when he sees the vacuum cleaner, mop, broom or basically anything that moves. I move him away before I start the activity now and yesterday when I started the lawn mower, even though he was inside, he still barked but this time he only barked a couple of times. It's taken 12 years to get to this stage. I've always had cats and have cats that were here before I got my dog as a puppy, but I would never leave him with them unsupervised. I've heard too many horror stories of things going wrong.
  11. Royal Canin have a great range of prescription diets that the dogs find very palatable. Ask your vet if they can get some in for you or if you can pick it up at another vet. My friend's dog is on the low fat RC prescription food and it smells like vegemite!
  12. Apparently this tiger has been saved. There is a link to another FB page which tells me about her current situation and I'm waiting for approval to join. https://www.facebook.com/groups/498123016921219/
  13. I also wish I hadn't looked at the photos. It's sickening. Such beautiful creatures being treated like that.
  14. She needs to be able to snuggle so a piece of lambswool or something plush will make her more secure and more settled. The alternative is to find her a surrogate mother and siblings so that she gets the important socialisation she needs.
  15. When I was rescuing I approached the local RSPCA with a view to helping the cats and dogs, however, the fees they were looking at charging us was more than what we paid in vet work. They also only wanted us to take the dogs that they felt were rehomable, where we were more interested in taking those that were at risk of being PTS for what we considered minor reasons eg, some skin conditions. As there are plenty of animals that need rescuing we didn't pursue it. I hope that this partnership works for all involved. :)
  16. You need to make your prices competitive with boarding kennels and I think a lot depends on the area you wish to service too. I did in my home dog minding about 4 years ago for $25 a day if that helps.
  17. This is an excellent document minimax! Thanks for the link.
  18. I've been using Scalibor collars for about 2 months and found a half engorged paralysis tick on my dog last week. Fortunately he is fine. I'm now thinking of using Advantix and a tick collar and am wondering if anyone is doing this. And if so, what brand of collar are you using?
  19. Also could be lizards! My neighbour's dogs used to drive me batty with their barking at lizards!
  20. If you decide to get a spray collar there are refill sprays available that spray cold air instead of citronella. Also another thing to do is to go out, park the car down the road somewhere and sneak back home and see if there is any barking. You'll have to sneak around your house for quite a few hours so plan what you're going to do before you go out!
  21. Aaaw look at Wayne. Clyde, you really should get him a cat bed.
  22. I saw that photo in the rescue section and am horrified. It looks like mange and allergies. Poor little dog.
  23. I was looking to board my dogs earlier this year and rang the Pet Ranch and they sounded good but I never got around to inspecting them. The Canine Health Farm is under new management from 1 November.
  24. I've heard that Tomerong Village Kennels are excellent but that might be a bit too far.
