Hi guys, Can anyone recommend a good groomer in the Frankston area? I'm willing to travel up to half an hour to get to the groomer. Mine's going away for 6 months and my cocker is in desperate need of a good cut!!!

Hi Shaun, My cocker has JUST recovered from kennel cough. I was told that my dog should be quarantined for 10 days. I had been giving her manuka honey and benadryl cough syrup which seemed to help with the sore throat she was getting from coughing. I started this thread last week so hopefully you can get some great answers in this: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=172962

Exactly! She made me so angry. I'm not violent but I could have slapped her. I think maybe she should have stuck to cats and not got a dog.

Sory for not getting back to you earlier guys. When she got home the puppy was sleeping and she took her to the vet. Vet has given the puppy the all clear. Thank dog!!!! The puppy owner told me this morning that the vet had a go at her for not calling sooner and for leaving the puppy alone. the owner then turns to me and says "He spoke to me like I was an idiot!" My response "YOu are a frealing idiot!" She hasn;t spoken to me since! Woops! Freaking moron

She's finally called her vet. He's told her to bring the puppy in as soon as possible. Her reply "well i'm coming tomorrow anyway with my cat, can i just bring the puppy then?" The vet went off (i could hear the vet having a spac attack through the phone). She's going tonight. I just did something really awful. I asked her if she actually expected her puppy to be alive when she got home. She's just asked if she can leave work now. Stupid ............

Yeah I thought she was an idiot but just wanted to check I wasn't over reacting! I'm trying to get it through to her that she needs to call the vets and get someone to go round and check on her puppy.

Hi guys, Just wanted to know what you would do if your discovered your little pug puppy had eaten a 1/4 tablet of codiene (sp) from your hand bag? A lady I work with told me this morning that her puppy (8 months old) ate the 1/4 tablet and started to throw up last night. The puppy hadn't stopped throwing up at bedtime so she locked it out of the bedroom as she didn't want it to throw up on her bed. I asked if she had called a vet for advise and she said no. I asked if the puppy had drunk anything and she said no. The puppy didn't eat its breakfast this morning either. Is it just me or is this lady an idiot? First thing I would have done is call either my own vet or the emergency vets and ask what I should do and if its deadly. She has left this dog at home alone while she's at work. It all happened last night and she isn't the slightest bit concerned. Am I over reacting or is she not reacting enough?

Luke - I've noticed with my cocker that she will get weepy eyes if her ears are playing up. I can look at her ears and see nothing and smell nothing but then i will give them a good squirt with solution and muck will come out. Once her ears are sorted the weepy eyes stop. Maybe check out his ears. I have no idea about the staining, sorry

Help On Beginning Agility In Vic
claireybell replied to Bex_sta79's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Both Frankston and Hastings dog clubs do agility. Hastings is on Sunday's and Frankston on Saturday's. They would let your dog do the foundation until it was 18 months old (only 3 months to go until we're out of foundation!). -
Thanks guys for your replies. She already had anti biotics as she has an infection on her lip. Vet said her lymph glands were up and her temperature is slightly elevated. We went to the vet on Saturday for her lips and went back Monday for the cough. The manuka honey is 20+ I tried to get her to eat it from the spoon but the fussy madam wouldn't have a bar of it. She hadn't eaten all day but she's just had some boiled chicken thigh fillets (her fave) and she scoffed them down. She must have been hungry as usually she is a very lady like eater. Both dogs are confined. They haven't been out since Saturday morning (besides the vet on Monday and the vet saw her in my car) and I'm pretty sure (not 100% though) that Jesie picked it up Saturday afternoon at the vet. We were with two other dogs Saturday morning and I have warned both of them of what has happened. So far so good, their dogs are ok. Just hope it stays that way. As mentioned before she is usually a totally hyper dog (I think she has adhd! ) but she's being very quiet at the moment. I went and bought her a new toy and she perked up at that. She's taken herself off to bed with it. I've put a jumper on her which normally she HATES! But she's been happy enough with it on. The ducted heating is pumping (sweating to death myself but hey) and I've made sure all the doors and windows are closed. Jodie (other dog) doesn't seem to have come down with it, yet Just feel completely helpless. She let me pick her up last night and cuddle her for about 30 minutes which is very odd. She's always too busy for cuddles. Just wish I could kiss the cough away.

Hi guys, My poor little girl, Jesie has kennel cough. The vet has given her some anti biotics and cough syrup. What I wanted to know is if there is anything else I can do for her? I've been keeping her warm and we have some manuka honey here that I have been dissolving for her and putting in her water. Last night I took her into the ensuite while OH showered so that she could breathe in the steam. My Jesie is a full on active dog. She never stops moving and is always on the go. Its heart breaking to see her looking so deflated and lethargic. I'm just praying that my other doggie wont come down with it aswell. Any advise you can offer would be soooooo grealy appreciated. Thanks guys. xxxxx

Hi guys, Next Wednesday I'll be starting tracking classes with my Beagle and Cocker Spaniel. What can I do to give them a head start? I've never done this before and neither have my dogs. I assume that they should be alright at it as they are both nose to the ground kind of dogs but I'd like to get some practice in before we start classes. What can I do at home or the park to start us going?

Ashanali - I never knew this about cockers. Thanks! My Jesie' breath is pretty good but will be checking in future

QUESTIONS 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) We've always had cockers as family dogs but now I have one of my very own!! 5. What is the general temperament/personality? If mine is anything to go by they are Happy, Friendly, Always up to Mischief and can make you laugh very easily 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? My Jesie needs at least 40 minutes a day but longer if I'm up to it. She never sleeps! 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? Definately!!!!!! 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? I think its best that they have a companion, they love people. We got our cocker a puppy of her own! Cockers love people and need to be an inside dog, part of the family. An all round lovely dog
