  1. Just wanted to say a big thank you to 'Helen Sheedy' for donating the Best Of Breed Rosette for Dobermanns on Sunday at the Morwell / Traralgon show. Our 14 mth old boy - Roc (Bisart Geerocker) - won CC Dog, BOB & Junior In Group. Its lovely to have a nice win with a young kid but its even nicer to have an extra momento to remember it by. Roc has been out of the ring since May / Minor Class due to multiple surgeries and his first show back he won RCC, RUBOB & JIG - then two weeks later above. Think we might have some fun with this young kid. Thank you again.
  2. Good natural diet helps to maintain healthy coat and colour depth. With the dobes I use Plush Puppy Seabreeze Oil over summer to keep their coats from getting sunburnt / bleached. But to recondition a coat I add Vit E to their diet for about a month and deep condition about twice a week - I use Showsilk Protein Conditioner for my deep conditioning treatments with a hot towel laid over the dog in the bath while I do their nails etc - about 10 mins. And I often get accused of dying my brown dobes coats .
  3. We breed dobes - so biased there totally but we also have a Brittany. The dobes are alot easier overall, the Britt is gorgeous, we love her and has her moments of being a total angel but overall the dobes are a breeze in comparison. Good luck with your search.
  4. Our current litter was planned 4 years ago and I know which dog/s I will be putting to the bitch we keep, the puppy bitch we have from our last litter was bred to go to certain dogs - semen from both is acquired - she just has to grow up. This is our 5th litter and we are ofcourse still working towards strengthening the tail female line in our dogs. I have my "dream pedigree's" sitting in my computer and I am working towards producing them in the flesh (and I can only hope I achieve what I want to ).
  5. Well done to Helen & Striker on RUBIS at the Royal - only a young boy too. Woot Woot !!!
  6. So sorry - its heartbreaking when they are young. Thoughts are with you.
  7. Hard to advise really - depends on the breed and the disease doesn't it. I mean a dobermann affected with vWD can live a normal life - it needs extra care under surgery but they generally live a normal life. We choose to breed with dna vWD & Cardio tested and clear / carrier dogs but not everyone does this. Really need to know breed and disease before giving advise - and then I think it needs to be someone within that breed who understands the disease and how it affects a dog in its life.
  8. Do you know which Dobe won the group ???
  9. Yes, Sandown are fantastic - and lovely people . I do have two boys here who are volunteering to check her 'prog' if you like - they are very accurate & we are in Skye area . . .
  10. I think he has been described as a dobe x in other threads. I am curious, what is his mix? One post said Dobermann so I assumed that was purebred .
  11. Sammy is a clever boy - believe it or not he is now training to get his CCD title (having passed the 5 grades below that level). He also does agility. When he is with me and I want to work, he is amazing. I can teach him a new trick in less than a minute, and he will remember that even if I am too lazy to practice again for weeks. But if I'm not on my game, well neither is he. And I'm not going to lie, anyone who has met me will know that I'm a very happy and active person, and I find a lot of situations funny that I shouldn't so as usual, nothing wrong with Sammy - he is just my mirror. When I'm nervous, I bite my nails. With relocation, a new job and a couple of personal issues, I have been doing it a lot in recent months. My dog has now started chewing on his paws. We took him to the vet - nothing physically wrong with him and my partner is convinced he is copying me. He yells at us both to stop biting our 'fingers'. Sammy just copies and follows me everywhere. These people can sadly not be removed from my life - it probably doesn't help that I have several friends who are virtually at the point of wanting to attack these people for some of the things they have done to me - and these are people who have never been in fights (ie not violent). You know you have to be civil in these situations, not that they are, but I don't think I would ever be able to tell Sammy off properly for peeing on them or their stuff so I will just have to keep him away from them. Ok - my first response was polite and obviously a bit soft. If your dog is so smart then he can learn how to behave in a civil manner and have good house manners. I would never except this kind of behaviour from our dogs - I would never accept any of our dogs not listening and responding to either myself or my partner - yes, some are bonded more with one or the other but that happens, they all do as they are asked. You do not have to be hard to have control over your dog you just have to be the leader - he doesn't accept this at all, he is the leader. He is in charge and he sucks up to you because he knows that you are the one who will let him get away with it. He is acting in a dominant manner and needs to be under control. Dogs in general are much happier when they have a leader and they know their place in the pack. It is very easy for a dog displaying this behaviour to step up and adminster what they see as the next step - biting someone to get the point across (NOT saying that your boy would or ever will but you cannot put your dog in that situation - you just cannot!). As for licking / chewing his feet - this needs to be stopped straight away. This is a behaviour that is displayed by a stressed dog - don't think this is cute and that he is just copying you. With dobes in particular this can become a complusive obsessive behaviour - have never had one myself but have seen a couple who have really damaged themselves - one had a hole in its flank that was open and bleeding and another chewed its leg and exposed the bone. You need to get help with your boy - contact his breeder they should be able to step up and help you - that is what we are here for !! I hope there is a positive outcome to this whole situation.
  12. We have had a couple of instances with two of our dogs have blocked people in our house. 1. Mother & Father inlaw staying - through the night they wanted to get up to go to the bathroom and this boy (Khann rip) wouldn't let them out of the bedroom. He wasn't growling or anything like that - just had that stance that said 'don't do it' !. The next day they decided to sit outside to have their coffee and this dog wouldn't let them in the house again. (Now I don't get on that well with this set of inlaws (I have 3 sets !!! long story) & they haven't stayed again - LOL). 2. Have had one of our girls (Rhemy) block someone from touching her puppies - everyone else who had come to see these pups she would proudly show them to where they were and bought toys to play with both the pups and Rhemy - but with this person, no this person was not going near her puppies. She got put on lead and put away but this person didn't get a puppy. Dobermanns have an inate ability to read people and to assess your feelings about a situation or person -so this behaviour doesn't suprise me (not labeled the dog with the human brain for no reason). BUT his behaviour is way over the top - I would suggest some serious obedience training and learning of the rules. While he is learning good manners - he needs to be put away from the people he doesn't like (or perhaps take his advice and remove the 'bad' people from your life - LOL). Can your breeder help you with the training / behaviour ? It needs to be someone who understands Dobermanns. Good luck.
  13. Ours have all whelped litters on day 59 from the first mating - which would be day 61 ish from ovulation at a guess. All have whelped naturally except once - that girl had a huge boy stuck and the vets had to do a cesar to get him and the rest out - she had 5 naturally in 2 hours prior to that boy though. Our last litter our girl had all 10 puppies in 3 hrs & 15 mins (her 2nd litter so think she wanted it over and done with ).
  14. Yes - me thinks so too. 4th Mini 3rd Maltese 2nd Akita 1st English Setter or Akita / Setter swapped but I think the GS judge judged Grp 3 so . Good luck to everyone !!!
  15. I'm going out for a few hours so no results will be posted from me ! Who unlocked your chains . . .
  16. I use Drontal and worm my girls with no issue at all. Fingers crossed for beautiful bubs .
  17. I have not had this with our girls but know of quite a few people who have done this recently with their bitches who have previously lost litters - all had to have c/sections and all have only had 2 or 3 puppies at most. Will be interesting to see what happens in the future with the progeny. To me mother nature knows best and there are reasons bitches don't take or can't bring a litter to term. I, personally wouldn't breed a bitch who had previously lost a litter for this reason.
  18. She is a stunning bitch - another well deserved specialty win.
