Have just done our current litter with Gentec - all parents need to be dna profiled so if they are not done then get them done now. Then all puppies are swabbed and link to the parents to confirm parentage. Ours worked out to be $130 but that was inclusive of parentage and vWD - think the parentage test was $70 per puppy. I find Gentec easy to work with, efficient and cost effective and they are recognised by the ANKC. Gentec have collectors who don't charge to take the samples - our litter was whelped in NZ and they even have reps there :) - too easy. Just make sure you use a company who's results will be accepted by the ANKC - not all are and then you will have to retest with a recognised company to have results recognised and litter registered.

Rhemy gained her final points for her Neut CH Title this weekend - only went on the Sat & Sun to Cootamundra & only entered at the last minute for her when I had a disaster due to rain destroying my tent at the Albury Shows & went home b4 showing at all. Sat - NBOB & NBIG & Sun - NBOB & NIG. She has won multiple NIG & NIS awards along the way and at a couple of months off turning 10 years old she has had a new lease on life being taken out on the odd occasion. Rhemy is now - DUAL CH (T) NEUT CH Coppertop Catch A Look CGC BH ET CD WAC ROM BS :D .

Why wasn't your first call to the breeder of the dog ? As a breeder I would sincerely hope that all of our puppy buyers - pet or show - would contact me before anything else. Some of our puppy buyers ring me before they take the dog to the vet just to check if they need to (sometimes they don't). You may find that your breeder knows alot more about this in the breed than the vet does. Also my little bitch - I am totally sick of reading things like this on these forums - ring the breeder and don't blab this crap online making them seem like they have done the wrong thing. Far out you are talking about reporting her !!!!!!!!!! - you haven't even spoken to her yet Always helpful if you read the rest of the thread before responding ... I have - the breeder should still be the first point of call - IMHO.

Arghhhhh ! I had to come home - tent ruined by the wonderful downpour (one of many, I wasn't the only one) and everything in it was totally drenched - ALL my dogs stuff . Most dissapointed as I was looking forward to a good weekend. Still washing and drying things and I was home by oneish. Good luck to those still there.

Several points: A cat is vermin to a dog (unless they live with them and ours would always chase an unknown cat). All council residents are responsible for containing their animals - here cats cannot roam (not sure about NSW). Quite simply - the cat shouldn't have been in their yard so surely the dog can't be declared. Though being a wonderful council they probably will and slap the cat owner with a fine for the animal being at large.

You supposedly can get a journal membership with Dogs NSW but after trying on several occasions and getting no response I gave up. If they don't want my money then they can . . . . . . . . . . . . . I have looked at the calendar and found show sec details and contacted them too - some are great and send through the schedule and some, again don't bother to respond. I only enter through Ozentries now - its easier and quicker anyway. Ozentries

Have done this once and have another dual sire litter on the way now. You don't have to microchip the bubbas prior to testing parentage only prior to registering them. We do the dna swabs at week one - test results through Animal Network are back within a week - as long as the pups are identified at the time of swab and you can ensure you keep that up to scratch (I used tipex marks and collars to double up) you can then send in the microchip numbers when they are done at 6 weeks or whenever they are done and Animal Network update the paperwork and certify it. The dna results are needed along with the microchip number to register the litter ofcourse but you can do the testing prior to microchipping. The test is $70 per pup plus any of the adults you have to add on their dna database - ours are all on there so I don't have to do that part. I want to know which pup is which sire as soon as I can especially with this next litter as we have 4 from one sire sold and 2 from the other. Bit of mucking around but its worth it. I wanted to do both matings with this girl and technically she only has to carry one litter - much better for her in the long run.

The only time I have used prog tests was when I was sending a bitch interstate - followed vet / prog tests and she was up there for 8 days before we got the matings. She had 11 puppies. Will trust my dogs over prog test any day !

I would say that it is about half half in Australia at the moment. We have had litters with full tails but with so many damaged / badly injured tails we have sent our next litter to New Zealand. We complied with the law and it was to the detriment of our dogs wellbeing and that I cannot live with being responsible for. Still loved them just as much with full tail or docked though.

Yes, agreed it was good to be all together and I learnt today not to ticket write while you are busy showing 3 different breeds - do a group when you aren't in the ring like yesterday - much easier :). Only one suggestion for improving these shows - a coffee van next year - even if only for the mornings !!! :D Our old girl, Rhemy came home with 2 Neuter Best of Breeds - another 14 points to add. She'll be finished soon - she had a ball too, but god I had forgotten how much she barks at other dogs - too nawty !!!

Totally agree.... great show... we were in a great spot, all the card writers together, good company, lots of laughs and jokes and we had a ball.... And I got to meet BB and BBJ.... Man - met you & didn't even realise it was 'you' Joan Of Arc !!!

Really looking forward to this weekend - love these shows .

Just noting that everyone keeps bringing up Cardio. The DNA Testing done through the USA tests either positive or negative for the Cardio Gene in Dobermanns. Using this tool will help breeders to hopefully lessen the amount of Cardio in our breed, but it only tests for ONE GENE - they are not yet sure if it is the major gene related to cardio but at least it is a start. The breed average lifespan is 10 to 11 years for males and 11 to 12 years for females. We lost our old girl at 13 and our old boy at 10.5. Dogs behind our current breeding lines have lived up to 14 & 15 yrs both male and female. Looking for longevity behind lines is a good indication that there is general good health there.

Um - I think that is something to be proud of - just doing the job she was bred for !!!! Go Gossip :).

Erny - think we will be ok - I had a long chat to them today (grilled him a bit actually so that I have all the info I need to map out training sessions) and they have made alot of progress with him over the past couple of months which is great. He runs, plays and socializes with other dogs normally, works well at obedience school and they have advanced with that (has his naughty days but don't they all), he is territorially protective (house & car) but once they let someone in the gate or the front door they are accepted and his behaviour is what you would expect of any socialized dog - infact he said that Zeus is better than any other dobe they have had previously in this respect - he is good with their grandchildren though they are very careful with the 2 yr old (wise with a 40kg dog) - all in all its a much better picture than we have been facing in the past couple of months - fingers crossed :D .

Oh come on Erny - its not that long a drive . Seriously though, its our job as a breeder (but thanks :)) - I feel responsible for all the dogs we put on this earth as I chose to produce them and they reflect on our breed and our kennel. And I want them to just be able to enjoy him and love him - not be annoyed & angry with him. Its funny though - I have found myself reading old NDTF training notes & behaviour books / notes :) and have had to dig up 'training equipment' (you know to what I refer :)) incase I need it all. Its made me realise just how good our dogs are and how much 'expecting' good behaviour and being 'the benelovant alpha' has just moulded our dogs right from the start - they don't really 'get trained'. If that makes sense. Fingers crossed it all works out to be an easy solution - its hard when you can't get your hands on the dog and his prior owners wouldn't send him back here before I found a home for him .

I am looking for a very experienced trainer to help a puppy owner of ours. The dog they have is 18 mths old and unfortunately was neglected by his first owners - in a sense that he didn't leave their back yard in 8 months . So a lack of socialisation since he left here has created some minor behaviour issues - barking in the car at new things, being pushy at home (doors/gates etc). I am travelling to the Mt Gambier Shows to help them as it is not working over the phone, via email etc. So I will have 4 days worth of training sessions with them and hope to make enough progress that they will be ok to proceed from there but would like to have contact details for a trainer in the area to leave them with if possible. If he is too naughty he will be coming back here for boot camp !!! But I think it will be ok he was such a sweet clever little puppy who always behaved in the right manner - so we will see.
