  1. Under the skin, same place as a vacc or chip and we use the Troy Vit B Complex injection. Vit B can sting so you need to make sure it's at room temp (keep cool for storage) but it's only 0.5-1ml Thanks, thats easy to do - intra muscular I don't like though - might give it a go as she is perfectly happy and confident in every other situation - happy and confident with the stack and the judge but as soon as you move her she stresses. I've tried everything and with training she was near perfect but as soon as she got back to her next show all that work - gone.
  2. They have a website - http://ausflowers.com.au/ or most Health Food Shops stock the mixed essences - online you can get single ones and mix something more specific to what you or your dog may need but it takes alot of time to work it out. I always have Emergency, Solaris and Travel Essence in my show kit.
  3. You're buying a lottery ticket on that theory. Unless the dog has massive hormonal problems, which puppies do not, it can help make a dent in the dogs attitude at times. But you dont know until you try it and then it can swing one of three ways - better, worst, or nothing at all. Frankly, you should have returned the pup to the breeder by 9 weeks with this level of reactivity which is NOT tolerated in the breed. Either that or he is not pure labrador. **LIKE** Behaviour modification almost always brings on an esculation of that behaviour - bit like a kid when told not to do something - ofcourse they will and with more gusto. But the behaviour will tend to get worse before it gets better - and a training cycle or the time it takes for the behaviour to become learnt for most dogs is 21 days. And the extra veterinary testing is mandatory - from what you've written and from what I've seen over years of training and working with Dr Holmes I think your answer will come from more vet tests. Hope you have a good outcome though.
  4. A prong collar is less abusive to a dog than a 'normal' correction collar. Working for NDTF & ADT we saved many dogs from being put to sleep with the proper use and training with prong collars. They are a life saver for alot of dogs and a godsend for alot of owners.
  5. Are they under the skin or intra muscular injections ? I have a puppy who is happy except when going into the showring - this happened due to someone literally running up her a--e at her very first show - I am working on her but this may help her. Bush Flower Essences have an Emergency Blend which works well for stress and Valerian can be good with some dogs as well.
  6. The gates open at 6am automatically. If the show is inside however you won't be able to set up as the pavillion is locked most the time.
  7. Thanks will suggest that to our vet - but I am happy to do it all at 6 weeks - prior to that if I need to advertise I have a letter from our vet but we do vacc's, microchips, reg express and then dna all in the sixth week - makes for a busy week but it all works well and paperwork goes smoothly.
  8. Just wanted to say thankyou for starting this thread and all the answers - I am just starting this process and will now be going straight to Cryogenes, it just seems way to hard to do it all yourself.
  9. The dobe club of vic used to advertise the club and puppy / rescue line in the Trading post years ago but the cost of it was not worth it in the end as we weren't getting any interest. Dont' know what they do now. Don't mean to sound like a snob but I will only advertise my puppies via DOL - I tried a couple of other sites some time ago and have found that the calibre of applicants is much higher through DOL. With our breed I think that this is very important as I will never sell a puppy to a guard / protection / ego accessory hunting person. Doing that does nothing for our breed profile or our kennel profile and this is something that we really need to be aware of and protect. The majority of our puppies have homes prior to being born and this is via our DOL profiles / our own website or referrals from puppy owners or other dobe people. DOL all the way for this little black duck :D .
  10. While it could be anything like others have mentioned my first thought is that she isn't getting enough nutrition now eating food. Canned food is not enough for babies growing, below is how I feed our babies, it may or may not work for this puppy. Could be that she is been pushed away from the food by the stronger puppies as well - feeding seperatly might help. Bear in mind breed size too. Week 3 Start offering chicken necks which have been crushed slightly - not as a food source more as a development thing - they do manage to get a bit of the meat off. Week 4 Human grade beef mince mixed with warm water to make it softer and a touch of natural yoghurt Keep offering chicken necks Weaning from mum starts Week 5 As above and add chicken carcass mince (beef & chicken 50/50 by end of week) Keep offering chicken necks, add chicken carcass & meaty lamb necks (again they don't eat alot of it but its all development - mum eats the left overs Milk drink of night - honey disolved in boiled water, add milk to cool temp then mix in a raw egg & a little yoghurt (bed time drink) Week 6 As above beef / chicken carcass mince 20/80 by end of week Now eating chicken necks & carcasses - still offering lamb necks & soft lamb bones Milk drink of night - honey disolved in boiled water, add milk to cool temp then mix in a raw egg & a little yoghurt (bed time drink) Week 7 As above Chicken carcass mince 100% Now eating chicken necks & carcasses - still offering lamb necks & soft lamb bones Milk drink of night - honey disolved in boiled water, add milk to cool temp then mix in a raw egg & a little yoghurt (bed time drink) * a baby I suspect is not digesting their food properly (ie not extracting needed nutrients from food) I give colostrum powder in their mince as well - can feed separately to ensure they are getting all they need too.
  11. Ear Mites ? Is it black crusty with a tinge of blood red colour ? If so if you have neem ointment put that on it - but vet visit definately.
  12. Hi sas, unfortunately not. We got them from a house sitting website. The fact that they were so doting on the dogs did not make me worry about leaving them, especially after receiving an email about the length they went to coax Jindi to eat (she was refusing food and wouldn't go near them), but this does not help ease my anger when they were risking something happening to our dogs (by being out the front or the female panicking on the main street and getting loose, which happened to us once). They have been housesitting for 4 years. They have been housesitting for 4 years. This is their experience and reference - they are not professional dog people you paid for housesitters, lucky they fed the dogs properly. Your dogs would be far better off in a kennel or get your friend in the same street to feed them or holiday somewhere where you can take them. But when you hire 'housesitters' you can't really complain about the things they did wrong with the dogs - just because they like dogs doesn't mean they have a clue.
  13. Ahhh.. you have answered your own query - ..and as you are aware of BYB's - now is a good time to step away from any more associating with them I'm sure you will be responsible and do the best for your gorgeous boy ..ie: desex and enjoy without extra hassle :D :D . Yes, I couldn't have said it better. Desex him and just enjoy him for the beautiful boy he is :) Yes agreed, love him, spoil him and as you know you won't get a more loyal dog.
  14. My pup came from a show breeder and still has her dewclaws (but she isn't mains registered). some breeds have their's left on. Dobes don't
  15. Contact the breeder of your boy and discuss it with them. I notice he still has dewclaws so wouldn't think that he is from a show dog breeder as the dewclaws definately would have been removed. He looks like a lovely boy but he won't miss what he doesn't have (ie sex :)) and he doesn't need to have a mating before he is castrated. Personally, I prefer that our puppy people don't desex their boys until at least 18 months as it is far better for the boys growth and structure longterm but ofcourse this doesn't suit some people. But to avoid prostate cancer or issues about 7 years old is the average age for most males to be desexed as a preventative measure - our boys are done between 7 & 8 years of age (though I have heard of some having issues at 4 years of age with prostrate). Some boys are happier once desexed - some it makes no difference to. It is a choice only you can make, your dog won't care as long as you love him and care for him.
  16. I had sent entries to this show and have tried phoning and emailing to find out if they have my entries - no response at all. Any other contact details available at all ?.
  17. LOL - DITTO !!! Sounds great but will definately come if Neuter is offered - and thats with at least 4 others entered :).
  18. Yes, well we have Dobes and both myself and my vet are not happy to microchip until 6 weeks of age - at the earliest. To do it any earlier is something I will never do, those needles are huge. Luckily our vet is happy to do both - the chips are paid for prior to insertion and put aside for those few weeks. Its not like you are buying 10 litters worth. Pity your vet wont help you comply with the law - find a new vet.
  19. Yes, as above with the letter or if your vet will put aside 'purchased' microchips you can advertise numbers which will be inserted at the right age. For me & my vet 6 weeks is the earliest insert date.
  20. I have to add that I have seen Aquapaws get results where others can't - faster and more permanently as well.
  21. A fantastic conditioning center in Vic is Aquapaws - contact Jo on 5977 8841. They deal with simple conditioning of show dogs / performance dogs to full rehab of dogs that have gone through major surgeries. Jo is fantastic and will tell you how it is - straight down the line - if your dog can have a full career as an injury free agility dog she will get it there.
  22. Wow do that many well bred Dobes end up in rescue?!?!? For most breeds of dog there is a high demand for quality healthy dogs and you tend to find not many end up in rescue or contributing to BYB problems. No RV they don't - the majority of Dobe breeders take great care of where they place their dogs and the majority take rehome dogs back or assist in rehoming if thats not possible. And there is generally a very high demand for puppies - our next litter is majority sold and not advertised, plus we have people waiting for a litter planned in 18 mths - once people have a dobe they are dobe people for life and they are the majority of our puppy buyers presently.
  23. Mine love lamb kidney - microwave them, slice really thin, bake in the oven to dry out a bit (saves my suit pockets) and then freeze. I also have a packet of good old smacko's in my show kit just in case my bait goes off or I forget it.
  24. Ummmmm - do you know what they put in these ??? Pulling the batter off won't help
  25. You will need to send in his desexing certificate to change his reg to a neuter - it is $15.00 from memory but there are no forms - just write a quick note or take it in personally. So you will need to pay for your membership, to transfer the dog into your name and to change his reg to the neuter listing. Just ring the office to check the amount for the neuter - even though I've just done one a month ago I couldn't tell you how much it was !!!. Also remember to take copies of all your documents before handing them over. Good luck.
