  1. Good - I've got 4 to put through next year - I think there's still enough tests run in Vic, if not I'll be driving to ACT I guess :).
  2. October Vic Dog or if you don't have that try DOL Events Listing :D
  3. They seem to do very well here in Vic & in SA as well - don't think they need promoting to win - but it was nice to see the pics.
  4. I know a breeder with a young smooth looking for a home - if you want to pm me I will give you their details.
  5. Exactly. OP, be very wary of veterinary 'minimal risk' quiffs. It's all stats and figures until its your dog and your dilemma ... and by then veterinary repro theory has moved on, and your dilemma is a shrug shoulders "oh we have advanced a lot since then ... we now recommend ..." EXACTLY. they dont even take responsibility when a vaccination batch is faulty, not that they are at fault, but I know from devestating experience when 7 out of nine died overnight, 8th died that afternoon, the bills for saving the 9th he asked could he keep her as he had become so attached during the weeks she (literally) lived in his pocket on a drip. No doubting his dedication to saving her. Not a word was said about compensation let alone return of the vaccination fee I paid to keep them safe. not kill them outright. only learned months later that batch killed 600 before manufacturer recalled that batch. my friend worked there and spotted the recall, gave me the batch mumber and it tallied with the stickers on my cards. I have since learnt the vaccination companies rarely tell the vets why theres a recall so they dont have to compensate the owners..nice eh? as for the vets who will do every test and check knowing the patient has less than 10percent chance of recovery , yet only tells the owner,we will do our best to save him/her, not a hint there is 90 percent that death is going to happen. then pat the mug shelling out thousands for the great efforts made to 'save' their pet. So sorry, we did our best, some times these things happen. Nice fat invoice though and the owner never knew the real odds. only recently were quoted "$3,000 for the necessary needed intensive care, or wont survive",thats not counting all the scans and examination costs alrready done, a family friend with medical experience looked at the scans and asked, whats the odds of recovery, after a bit of thought the reply? Ten percent. The pet already had lived 1/3 longer than the breed average. vets these days are not trained to tell you the practical. They are trained to do all they can regardless of the cost or the low possibility of a successful outcome. Some only prolong life for another few weeks. As one more honest vet said to me, over my unconsious cat with impacted bowel. "I can ream her out for you for $700 but that isnt removing whater is the root cause. Chances are you will be back in two weeks for the same op. Her body is shutting down and I feel her day has arrived." She was 18. She had arrived as an adult all those years ago. We later learnt her real age was 20. so the old girl had a good innings. I was so grateful to that vet for telling me the truth. Most today do not, they are taught to prolong whatever the costs. Pet owners hearts rule their head, but they should still be given ALL the facts before making the decision Totally off topic but . . . You do know that vets take an oath to do everything they can to save an animals life (like doctors do for people) - I think you will find that all vets do give the correct information regarding an animals outcome its just that when we are in a stress situation we don't take it in. Every vet I have ever had dealings with is ethical in the way they approach their jobs - it is up to the owners to sign the consent form for treatment - it is up to the owners to ensure they understand what they are signing. Not saying there aren't some dodgy vets out there - obviously yours - but I find your post quite offensive and I don't even work as a vet nurse any more. And the cost is why we should have pet insurance !!! & this is why we now do the 6 weeks free insurance with our puppies - 9/10 from our last litter have signed up with the company so it works for the company as well.
  6. Its actually against regulations in Victoria to allow cats to roam - they must be contained. She has been warned multiple times, the cat was in your yard, it is the natural way of things unfortunately.
  7. And I for one only entered this show because the Neuter Class was offered, I wouldn't have if it wasn't. So thank you Kilmore KC for the chance to show my neuter boy, he loves to come out and show off (& he won another Best Neuter In Group too :)). Congrats to your lovely lad Bisart. He looked great in the Group run off. I have it on video if you'd like me to post the link. Thank you Kilmore for offering the Neuter classes. LOl of me being half cripple trying to keep up with him !!!! I would love that if you don't mind :) -thank you so much. Clare got some lovely shots of him in the GS Ring & on the move too, even though I couldn't run hardly at all by that stage. Again, congrats on your young girl getting a beautiful BOB & Puppy In Group - very nice win, esp under a breed person. Not at all Bisart, it is lovely. My husband was focusing on Dyzney as you can imagine, so you are missed in a couple of bits sorry, but what we see of you and your boy is nice. Here is the link Thank you about Seven's results. That was pretty thrilling for us, she is not even 10 months old. Thanks for that - he was a good boy & it gave me a chance to see what I am doing wrong with him LOL. Can always keep learning ! I am doing show lessons in the New Year, I need a kick up the butt again :).
  8. The best thing I have ever used for cut pads is "Flints Medicated Oil" - I have had it heal up badly cut pads (totally off foot / lame / not able to put pressure on) within 10 days and sliced pads within 4-5 days. And I am talking dogs back in the ring showing without lameness. Love this stuff and will never be without it - its good on cuts and skin allergies as well. If you can get it do so - its about $35 a litre and available at most horse / stock feed places.
  9. We have had several puppy buyers send in all their documents - ID / credit card details etc etc everything they need for membership - oh and the puppies original registration certificates to transfer them over - ALL documents lost !!!!!!!!!!! No answers, no appology, no reprint of reg certificates (unless they are paid for) etc etc And 2 of them I dropped into the office myself - one was posted. No longer recommending puppy people join - sorry but it makes me look bad when the organization can't even look after their private details and with the documents they are now demanding its not good enough.

  12. Nope. no numbers & cheque not cashed. Will have to ring and annoy the show secretary. It seems everytime I enter a show with Neuter in Vic something goes wrong - perhaps I'm not supposed to.
  13. Has anyone got numbers for this show yet ???
  14. Now, I think no animal should be sold through a pet shop ever. But what an idiot - just ruined their own business by admitting that they feed impulse buys . You don't think that the rspca etc will jump on this and use it to ban animal sales through pet shops.
  15. Was it actually aired ?? I didn't see anything but was doing other things the same time it was on.
  16. Another one - just saw advertising for this segment - Getting a cute puppy for Xmas ???? Do you really know where its come from ? Advertised for tonights show.
  17. +1 One year we had travelled to SA for the Specialty and Autumn Festival Shows - it was forcast over the 4 days to be 30 deg but the day after the Specialty it was about 45 deg - at that point I had 2 cool coats as I normally only showed 2 dogs (the show supply people there had sold out the 1st morning too)- the dogs that had the coats on were far more comfortable than those that didn't I can tell you. They work and they work well - I now have 6 and 2 cool mats. Thank god for the wonderful caravan park owners who let us have the dogs inside that day in the aircon (they all couldn't fit in though so we had to rotate from trailer's w cool coats & fans to inside). We travelled home overnight and it put me off returning to those shows since actually. For our breed - single short coated - they work.
  18. Whats so ridiculous about that ??? Having done therapy visits to nursing homes, repat hospices and childrens wards for almost 10 years now I know that the dogs get as much out of it as the people we visit with do. It is one of the most rewarding things I do with my dogs and the people we have met and the stories I have heard about their lives have enriched mine thats for sure.
  19. About 30 does it for me - the dogs (Dobes) about 32 depends on the humidity. I would't even consider it if the forecast was in the mid 30's. Cool mats (Silver Eagle), Cool coats (Silver Eagle), Fans, Silver Sides etc etc - Trailer is well insulated but has a cooling extractor fan which keeps temp to 21. Still won't bother if its too hot and this is why I generally only enter 2 dogs over summer - Dogs can travel in car in aircon, easier to look after them well and negates worrying about losing hundreds of $$$ if the event is cancelled.
  20. Soft crates are much hotter for our dogs. Don't use them over summer at all.
  21. I have a 14 mth old who was attacked quite badly when younger - he has 4 obvious puncture marks / scars (hair is growing back slowly) on his neck - jugular/off show side and 1 above his left eye - hair almost grown back there - the dog that got him was determined to crush his skull I think. Some judges don't like it (one Specialty judge told me he was placed 2nd in his class due to this but was the better dog) but then others don't worry -he was put up for 2 CH, 1 BOB, 2 Puppy In Group and 1 Puppy In Show when it was still quite fresh (healed but obviously fresh). Some comment, so I tell them what happened - their only comment then is that his temperament wasn't affected. I think it depends what the damage / injury is really. And if the judge doesn't like it then its no different to any other day you aren't on 1st place :).
  22. Its never going to change if a judge judges the dogs they will continue to do so - if a judge puts up for favors they will continue to do so - the only way you can not be affected by it is to not give those 'facey' judges an entry. If I know who will win regardless of what they take in the ring then I don't waste my time, energy or money anymore.
  23. No haven't and I rang the show secretary with much appologizing while I did so - poor thing, he's been swamped with phone calls but still its to be expected when numbers were only sent out on Mon or Tues he said - people expect to have numbers within the week before - not the day before. Ours will probably come Monday but I am at Vic Womens on Monday and have different dogs entered on the Tuesday. A 4 day weekend of showing different dogs takes organizing :D .
  24. Or the simple way - book a flight that lands after 5pm then they don't care at all - its home time.
