Thats really awful - she must have known that the wrong dog mated your bitch - she should have never risked your bitch that way to start with but at the very least should have come clean so that you could have the litter aborted if thats what you wanted. She also should refund the stud fee as well as paying the dna costs. And even after all this time she didn't come clean. I would never have sent my bitch to someone to be mated - if I couldn't get there physically I would arrange for semen to be collected and do an AI. My next mating is a mating to make a mating - if the wrong sire is used that ruins plans for the next 3 generations !!! The set back would be undeniable. Still shaking my head.

Whats The Oldest Sire Thats Been Used?
Bisart Dobes replied to Whipitgood's topic in Breeders Community
I know someone who has just their 'oldies' left from a toy breed they used to breed and exhibit - one male 15 & one bitch 14 years old - she had a suprise litter late last year !!! and she coped beautifully - the only one who wasn't happy was the dad as he was kicked out of their kennel overnight until they realised she'd had pups and then moved her inside to a whelping box -
What a disgrace. As a few have noted "he'd better get used to it" - Why should anyone have to put up with that treatment - let alone a child !. It is time that the clubs and state bodies came down on people like this - they 'bring our sport into disrepute' and it is totally unwarranted. They are just ugly bullies who haven't yet grown up past grade 6 - Get Over Yourselves !!!!! I hope that person is a member of this board. Shame them

Each to their own I guess

Yup - you read it right and its been bugging me all day - - - Last night when out running two of my dogs two people arrived at KCC Park and parked close to where I was parked. I had my younger dog out at the time - the older (and very quick to 'catch' the ladies) dog had been out already (LUCKILY ). As I could see one of the people in the trees from where I was I called him in and put him on lead (as I had been training as well) to walk him back to the car. When I had put him in the car I saw that their two dogs were in a tie . This was at KCC Park right out the front where the showrings are for all and sundry to see. People training their dogs about 20 mtrs away, the rotty club training was about to start so cars full of people, kids and dogs arriving etc etc Now I personally don't have an issue with seeing dogs mate its a normal part of our world I guess but I do find it really weird that you would even consider doing a mating somewhere like that. I can't imagine ever even considering putting my dogs - bitch or dog - in that situation. Not a secure environment, not a clean environment etc etc etc This is the second time I have seen these people doing this, the other time was about 4 or 5 months ago. I don't know - it is just weird to me that you would consider that the right thing to do.

Babies get pulverised chicken necks at 3 weeks - I know they don't eat them but they have a great time, suck on the meat and get some of it off, they learn how to use their paws to hold it down, they tear, tug, pull, growl etc etc all the stuff babies need to develop those muscles and bones - they love it. I have our first litter on video and the look on mums face when she was bought back in was priceless - it was like "hey !! - I didn't sanction this !!!" but then she dropped down outside the play pen & box and watched them very much bemused only jumping in to clean up each and every neck when it was discarded and ofcourse then she had to clean the puppies from head to toe as well with dirty looks shot my way for the work I'd given her . Will have to go and find that dvd and watch it for a puppy fix Ours get real solid food from 4 weeks - mince, tiny bit of veg, necks and wing tips and then progress on from there - they generally are eating wings in total by 5 weeks.

"All breeders should keep expenses/income relating to any litters" I've got this as a part of our records. As I consider all the titles my dogs acrue a part of the expenses of producing good dogs it was a lengthy process and good lord it makes you value those titles when the dogs achieve them . The tax office would laugh at us as well Our breeding girls are below - both have 11 titles to their names and I guess we were lucky in that accruing those titles didn't entail too many non qualifying competitions - still there is alot of money invested into these girls and that includes only entry fees - not conditioning, feeding, veterinary, travel costs - you could go on forever : DUAL CH (T) Coppertop Catch A Look CGC CD BH ET WAC ROM BS (7 yrs old & dam to "D" litter) DUAL CH (T) Bisart Diamond Spirit CGC CD ET WAC ROM (4 yrs old & daughter to above) (her brother is a small amount of points off joining them both as well :D. Still this is my hobby and I love the dogs and all the joy they bring.

As I am sure we are all well aware its the Anniversary of Black Saturday this weekend. Does anyone know if there is any kind of memorial planned for the people and dogs lost last year ? I assume the VCA would have flags flying out the front and at half mast in respect but I would like to know if there is anything else planned - I was going to wear my yellow ribbon ofcourse for all victims but it seems right that we all show that we remember and care. Flags at half mast ??? A minutes silence at the start of the show ??? Yellow ribbons ava for all to buy on the day ??? A wall of rememberance ??? B

Aust Bred In Group - Sheltie ( my Lucy also B.O.B) Open as BIG -
I won't enter this year - I don't show the same dog all the time so there is no point. I think the dbl points should apply for the class in groups/shows but not breed - some got 60 points for the 3 shows a couple of weeks ago and they were the only one in that class for the breed. 60 points for beating nothing - now thats not fair to the smaller states.
-
Good lord - its not hard at any rate - pretty much common sense. Do people actually fail ??? They perhaps shouldn't even own a dog
-
One of my favs - ol time steward calling in open bitch class "I need some old bitches - - - and some dogs as well would be good" - he says it at nearly every show - still funny. or Steward: "Where's the old bitch" Other exh: "She's in the ring sir"
-
With our breed & vWD under the law you can still breed 2 affected dogs together it just has to be a part of a breeding program plan !!!!!!! So whats the point of this legislation ! I don't get it - I wouldn't breed with an affected dog ever. Also I would never let them take my dogs to one of their dirty pounds or kennels - my dogs would rather die - I would take the jail option for myself than ever let them get their hands on my dogs. They can all go to hell
-
Unfortunately the RSPCA don't act on their own with investigations like this - they simply don't have the resources. Someone from within our own ranks has supplied them with information to act on. Someone has dobbed in their competition. This is why the dog world will never beat these stupid legislations - it will always be 'win at all costs'. What a disgrace.

Things My Breeder Should Have Told Me About Vets !
Bisart Dobes replied to Fordogs's topic in Breeders Community
I worked as a vet nurse for a few years and am so glad I did. It taught me how little vets actually know ('GP' Vets - not specialists) - how much they rely on bloods etc etc It made me more aware of when to step back and observe and when to jump into action - I think my advise to puppy buyers is all the better for this experience and I can certainly 'deal' with vets alot better now. I stopped because I found it too hard to deal with euths. The vet's I worked with were great and had great ethics. But I will never forget the first major leg surgery I was assisting - seeing this little dog cut open and then hearing the tools slamming into the bone to clean away the effected area and make the joint fit together and work again. My comment to the vet was that all breeders should have to see this kind of operation so that they can see the end result of decisions they make - his comment was good lord no - these breeders keep my business running. And he was an ethical vet !!! To qualify 'all breeders' - I meant all people who breed any dog . -
With dobes - yeah when hell freezes over - No Other Dog Gets Near Their Babies !!!!!!!!! - Until they are weaned then its whatever .

Things My Breeder Should Have Told Me About Vets !
Bisart Dobes replied to Fordogs's topic in Breeders Community
I always sit down with our puppy people and talk to them about the diseases within our breed. I go through the DNA profile and disease report on their dog with them so they know what has already been tested for and where they stand. I also give them the contact details for 'good vets' in their areas - if I don't know any in their area then I ask other breeders to recommend for me and then add that to my list which is included within our puppy booklet so that they always have it. On each puppy persons "first month with my puppy" sheet I again put the contact details for the specific vets in their area so that they have it at hand. Beyond that - not sure what else I can do . -
Agree with others - providing care, shelter and security comes under 'responsible'. But then there are so many more things I expect our puppy buyers to take up. With our breed socialisation and training are paramount and people must be dedicated to following through with not only the baby class we run until 16 wks for our pups but beyond that with our schedule up to 6 months. To me that is repsonsible ownership of a dobermann. Others may not see this as essential for their breeds. For example - Monday this week our scorcher day - I took our dogs out for a swim early and then for a quick run at KCC park on the way home. Car and trailer were in the shade and dogs were run under the trees at the front - they dictated how long and how far they ran or didn't. This was more of a mental release than a physical release for the dogs. Providing this when I knew that they wouldn't be run later that day or night or probably the next day as well due to the heat is part of me being responsible to my dogs needs as far as I am concerned. BUT I still got lectured by someone for running my dogs in that heat and was told that I was being irresponsible - I didn't even bother arguing the point as I know that all my dogs were only doing what they dictated for themselves and they always get into their trailer berth when they have finished. But therein shows difference of opinions with just one small example. An interesting topic though.

My first show girl was titled well before she had her first litter - however I did enter her at our Specialty show at 3 weeks and she was fine - she loved it actually and the day after she passed her breed temperament test with flying colours. Wouldn't have done either if she wasn't up to it in any way. Wouldn't bother with all breeds shows but only because my girls and their babies are more important. Would much rather take her for a run somewhere and let her keep fit and enjoy herself more than being at a show .
-
I would be tempted to get her checked just to make sure she is ok - there may be slight infection starting. I would put my mind at ease - its cute but its not normal.
-
There is a company that makes covers for their dogs runs but $$$$$. Once we get our property and runs set up I am going to get my brother inlaw to make me up thin pipe metal frames to go on top of the runs and then will fix the best quality shade cloth onto that. They shape them in a dome shape over each run which provides best shade potential - apparently. (I have my kennel and runs designed already - I can dream while we look can't I ?).

Most Scary Dog Walk Moment So Far
Bisart Dobes replied to Snout Girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wouldn't be worrying about the council - she obviously lives near you - get some help (big and male preferably) and door knock your area until you find her address. Then I would call the police - you were threatened and attacked with a weapon ! How dangerous what would have happened if she hit you in the head and knocked you out - do you think that she would have called an ambulance and got you help - I don't think so. I don't care how old she is - do the police think she can do no damage with a plank of wood - she has no damn right to treat anyone like that - she is dangerous. As for your baby - once you have calmed down you need to get her out where there are nice people for her to talk to - at 10 months she is right in the middle of a major fear period - the worst time for something like this to happen to her - poor baby. We are in Vic and I have a beautiful big boy who loves every puppy he sees - happy to have a play date if we are close enough. PM me. -
'building Better Dogs' Seminar 11 Feb 2010
Bisart Dobes replied to mlc's topic in General Dog Discussion
OMG - Yet again our Canine Associations do not have representation - really who should know more about 'breeding better dogs'. Why are they never involved at this level ????????? Why don't the MDBA have a speaker invited - more knowledge there than all the other speakers put together. But then I guess we are dog breeders not dog builders. Not sure I want to hear the puppy farming association speach either - totally against my ethics. -
How Do Your Dogs Ask For Things ?
Bisart Dobes replied to Bisart Dobes's topic in General Dog Discussion
Um well yes - good point - she does seem to be taking after her mother as she gets older . Her mother is the worst counter surfer in the world and no matter how many times she gets told off she doesn't care - will still take whatever she can get her teeth on. Lexi however is much better behaved - will not steal food but takes things like this. I guess she was putting it in front of me so that I knew to get her more Her brother takes water bottles off people - if you are standing there talking he will look at them with that cute 'can I' look on his face, if they ignore him he will touch it softly with his nose, if they still ignore him he will gently try to hold the bottle top - then they generally get the gist of what he wants so he ups the anti with the 'cute look' until they give it to him. Then he's happy and lays down to chew the top off. Our young boy will thump you with his paw to get attention and then he play bows when he really wants something. (Nickname is Thumper ). His sister will stare at you for as long as it takes and then will give you a high pitched puppy bark until you give in - funny girl. -
My 4 yr old beautiful brown girl has just come into the office with something and dropped down next to me to chew on it. Didn't think twice about it as there is nothing bad they can get hold of - just thought she had one of her bones from dinner. I looked down to see a red bottle and upon taking it off her found it was a bottle of Essential Enzymes - of which she had the lid off and had eaten the remaining contents (2 or 3 capsules). Hmmmmm - perhaps her way of telling me "Mum, I need these again". (she ended up with stomach ulcers after being baited some time ago and so still her diet is quite controlled and these capsules are something she gets on occasion). Off to buy her another bottle tomorrow - she obviously needs them .
