Very Promising New Drug Ebc46 Found In Rain Forest In Qld
Bisart Dobes replied to labsrule's topic in In The News
It has been available and trialed with specialist vets for the past 12 months +. While it is exciting news it is sobering to note that it only works with certain types of cancers, in certain positions in/on the body and even then is not consistent. So sorry for your loses - it is an awful disease to see anyone or anypet go through, your babies are at peace now. -
So sorry to read this - it so hard to lose the babies and even harder when the vet can't tell you why or what. Sometimes there is nothing you can do, my thoughts are with you.

So you regularly assist dobe BYBers then? No - I don't. I spend my time and energy with the people who have a puppy from us and educate them in the best way to raise their puppy, the right way to proceed in the future if they so desire and the right way to behave and treat others . These are the people and the dogs of the future I can influence - there are only so many hours in a day. Just because a ' breeder' is registered with the our recognised bodies doesn't mean they are doing the right thing by the breed - we have several 'top' breeders in our breed who don't test for anything, or who do and breed regardless - knowing that cardio exists in certain lines and then doubling up on that, or who breed disregarding crap temperaments and produce puppies that are the collective worst of their parentage . . . . . . . . . . I fail to see how treating anyone this way makes them or others wish to do the right thing. As my grandma always said - treat others as you would wish to be treated. I believe something similar is in the canine controls code of conduct as well.

Wow - haven't seen such a bitchy thread on here for some time. With this attitude given out why would someone think it was better to be one of us ??? Deep breaths needed, seriously. In reply to the op . I use liquid paper on our pups for the first 2 weeks or so - also marking on their sheet which puppy collar they have been assigned. Liquid paper is only toxic if inhaled - in its dry form it is non hazardous. I have never had a bitch worry about it but our girls remove collars, ribbons etc as they want their pups pristine and won't leave any collar on them - after two weeks it seems to be acceptable. I have a marking system which runs boys / girls - top head/left ear/right ear/left neck/right neck etc etc and you only need a tiny dot and it dries in a flash. Our puppy collars I made years ago - coloured ribbon on webbing with velcro (long before whelping supplies was in existance - though I like those and will probably buy them when I need a new set as it would be cheaper than making them again ).

Selecting & Training Assistance Dogs
Bisart Dobes replied to Bisart Dobes's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi & thanks, This is for a future litter as we don't have enough girls in this one to place with all our waitee's . We do the 'creating super dogs' neurological stimulation with all our pups - so they have been getting that from day one. On property socialisation with other people starts as soon as they have all those senses developed and off property socialisation starts at 4 weeks (carried) and 6 weeks (safely as possible on their own pack steam ) and we run our own puppy class for baby obedience and socialisation from 8 to 16 weeks for those that can get there (with other breeds if we can get them as well) - as we are in Vic they won't be able to come to it but they have had dobes before and have trained with clubs etc so I am sure finding local baby classes and then normal obedience classes won't be an issue. I am more interested in locating someone that can train them and the dog in assistance tasks and for myself - learning the temperament requirements for such a job. I assume all the normal fetch - play drives apply but want to be certain. Thanks for the contact - doing a search for service dog training didn't bring up this company interestingly. Thanks again, BD -
Don't worry - I know Go Iroc :D Aust & NZ CH Tornadobe In The Free World ;)

Well done on BIG & shortlist - do you by chance know which dobe it was ???

AWWWWW - georgeous old man - happy birthday .

One of my dogs was filmed years ago - take after take for a Triple M add years ago and it never made it to air (still we got paid ). Another was filmed for 3 days for a music video - have never seen it come to light either (still we got paid ). I just love the add for a toilet paper (couldn't tell you which one though) - with the really ugly (no offence if its anyones dog) dog that pops up from under the toilet paper pile with a huge grin on his face - god its cute and it makes me laugh everytime I see it.

I would never send my bitch away to be mated. If I couldn't travel with her to the dog of my choice I would get chilled semen and do an AI. Just my personal choice .

Training & Selecting Assistance Puppies
Bisart Dobes replied to Bisart Dobes's topic in Breeders Community
Thank you very much -
Need a little help, we have a puppy going to a family in Tassie from our next litter who want to have their dog trained to assist their elderly mother. This shouldn't be an issue re breed as there are a few Dobie assistant dogs that I know of here in Vic and I have 2 dogs that know multiple objects and tasks without any real training (ie bringing the phone when its ringing etc etc) I was hoping someone can help with contacts for any assitance dog training associations/companies in Tassie for them to contact and work with. Also I was hoping to be able to contact someone who works with assitance dogs and/or company in Vic who I can talk to about specific temperament tests / selection traits required for a puppy to be really successful for them. Thanks.

Weight Gain Supplements

Yes human grade . I generally get blackmores. If you feed some dry food maybe you could try a puppy food or working dog formula - higher fat content so might put some weight on him. -
Weight Gain Supplements
Bisart Dobes replied to angelsophie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have a fussy boy . He usually drops weight in 2 seconds when a girl is spot on in season - it drives me nuts. Though if a dog doesn't do well on a certain food - like us it must mean they are not able to process it properly. I have finally found a balance with my boy though I am not saying this will work for every dog as they are all different - its worth a try. He gets the following: Vit B tablet every day (stimulates eating and reduces stress) Digestive enzymes every day. Transfer Factor capsule every day. K-9 Immunity capsule every day. Fish Oil capsule every day. Spirulina tablet x 2 everyday (because he won't eat the powder on his food - my others will eat it out of the jar if I let them :D). and then his food is - barf patties with lamb (with vit powder mix), chicken wings & necks, Lamb bones, lamb skirt, fish and oats - he won't eat vegies on their own and his barf mix I do seperately and is about 15% veg at the most - this is why he gets 2 spirulina tabs a day. Last time a girl came in he dropped 1/2 kg instead of 5 to 8 kg. A difference I am happy with for him as that amount of weight loss is not good for them - and its not about the showring its about him and his wellbeing. Good luck. Also - you could try a coat for him over winter or confining him a little more if he is playing with baby too much - just until he's back on track and so he isn't burning as much energy. -
Try: Silver Coloid - ava at most health food shops - syringe about 30 mls a day down throat. Oxygen drops - ava online - amazing Spirulina - an everyday thing - powder or tablet K-9 Immunity - capsules - ava in Aus from dogcancer.net Transfer Factor - Capsules - ava online Maritime Pine Bark Extract - ava Robert McDowell's online - they have alot of different remedy's ava - but you can also speak to them and they will put something together for your specific dog as well. They are great to deal with. Our old boy went in for bloat surgery several months ago and wasn't recovering at the vets - I finally insisted that he was given Coloid and Oxygen drops, he was home 24 hrs later to die as the vets thought - he then went onto the Maritime, Transfer Factor and K-9 Immunity as well - it took about 4 days to get him to eat properly but once his system started to bounce back he was fine - he's doing really well now, probably better than b4. Good luck with your girl. *Love the bush flower ess as well.

Well - good to see that so far we're 100% - I must have been talking to some weird people lately :D. Just can't fathom why you wouldn't let them eat them if they wanted to. Yes angelsun, same here - the only time I have stopped a girl eating one was when it just didn't look right or smell right - that puppy was rejected by mom at 48 hrs and faded quickly.

Sounds wrong - if I get emails like this I just don't respond, if they are really interested they will try again or ring me. Though we did have one enq when we had our first litter - the husband was getting the puppy for his wife and wanted it to be a suprise . Yep, alarm bells rang and I ignored the email. He got in touch again, I left it for a couple of days and then he rang me. After speaking to him, he came out to visit with his children and they are a lovely family. They had just move out from England, his wife bred and exh dogs over there (GSP's), she was a psych nurse and was badly attacked by one of the patients (won't go into all the details here), he wanted a dobe because he wanted her to have protection and someone to be with her always - she was so badly hurt, physically and mentally that she wouldn't leave their home here. Long story short - that boy has the best home and over the next 2 years he helped to rehab her back to normal life and is always with her to this day. Couldn't ask for a better outcome for one of our puppies and I would place another puppy with them without hesitation. Reading between the lines can be hard sometimes.

No No NO !!! I agree. . . As you said - bitch got pregnant your bit done. I wouldn't return stud fee and I wouldn't be a part of another mating / litter - not if thats the way he has treated her. Poor babies and poor bitch - hope she is now getting the care she needs, but I am doubtful. Poor girl.

Having spoken to quite a few people lately and reading this forum it seems that alot of breeders take them away and don't let their bitch eat them. Some say its disgusting to let them eat it, some say they line them up and count them then throw them away - they don't let the bitch eat them because they want to count them all, some say it gives the bitch the runs and they don't want to be cleaning that up as well . . . Miriad of reasons why or why not. I grew up in a 'dog' family - my parents and grandparents bred dogs and it was always the case that the bitch would eat as many of them as she wanted. I do let our girls eat them because it gives them those rich nutrients they need for the first few days - they generally eat 4 or 5 only and then the rest I throw out (I guess eating 10 to 12 would be too much food). Yes it can give them the runs a little bit but then the girls go out whenever they need to and I am cleaning out the box about 4 times a day anyway so have never had an issue with that side of it. I check each one off on my whelping running sheet as each pup is born so I keep track of them that way and I note how many she has eaten. I am interested to see how many breeders let their bitches eat them or not and why or why not ?

Bulla Autumn Extravaganza... Results :)
Bisart Dobes replied to capanash's topic in General Dog Discussion
I missed the breed in the morning as I decided to do the Endurance Test at KCC Park with another dog at the last minute - but after that was done I went up to Bulla for the sweepstakes as I had a dog entered that needs to get in the ring for practice however found that the judge didn't actually judge the dogs for the sweepstakes - no individual examination the dogs just ran around the ring and stacked up - they then chose their favs. Nowhere in the schedule did it say that dogs must be entered in the breed ring to enter the sweeps - therefore they should be judged properly - thought that was very poor. However it was good running inside practice for the dog I had entered. There were alot of unhappy exhibitors - don't think the entry will be this good again. Most people hate Bulla and doing things like this just compounds that feeling. -

Walk On Loose Lead Please Handler!
Bisart Dobes replied to Lablover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our breed seems to get this alot actually - generally with judges who do know what they are doing and know our standard . A dog that is extremely over angled in rear will track outside its front legs at a walk because they have to have somewhere to put their feet - this can be seen at a trot but if the judge wants to make the point to all watching putting the class on a walk certainly does that. An over angled dog looks flashy and showy and if shown well this fault can be almost hidden on the move - some judges love the over exaggerated look and award it but it isn't correct in our breed.
