  1. Contact Jo at Aquapaws on 5977 8841 - she has alot of mobiblity products available and/or will find what you want for you. One thing you don't want is it rubbing, ill fitting or uncomfortable especially if it ends up being on them for a while - we had a harness on our old girl for her last couple of weeks - I made it up to fit her myself as my biggest concern was her comfort - it helped her.
  2. Silly question maybe but is Simi a dobe ? Are you scoring for breeding purposes ? If so we always run bloods to test Thyroid, Liver & Kidney function on our dogs prior to breeding (even though my vets keep telling me its a waste of time with no issues in the lines !!) but if you get it done you can have all these results. In some lines in dobes there are chronic thyroid & kidney issues - good to check. If not - ignore this post :).
  3. We have to do day 21 when sending girls over to NZ and have found it reasonably accurate. I prefer day 35 - find that given experienced scanner they are correct then.
  4. Not just backyard breeders !!! I have just found out that a girl we sold into an experienced show home in NSW has had a litter - she is from our H Litter they were 12 mths old on 11/09/12 - she whelped her litter on 14/11/12. Even if this was a "mistake" (and I don't believe that for one second - these people have been in dogs forever) you just wouldn't let it go to term in a 12 mth old dobermann bitch.
  5. Walkie talky will work for you. Yeah but you have to train the dogs to use it I don't want to know what mine are thinking, I only want to be able to tell them to shut up if barking  Well - it could fill some boring hours on those interstate trips LOL.
  6. You could use a second car battery - not hard wired in and run it off that. (this is what I do for fans at shows) Good point Sway that will power the camera itself although that doesn't help with powering the monitor while in motel room or whatever. But I am sure there has to be a way of doing it. Hve seen one in a horse float (horsybago really !!!) and they had it wired to the car electrics along with their fridge but when the car was off it changed power source ?? Greg assures me it is easy to do !! They had battery packs (3) as back up and they had solar power panels to recharge everything. LOL to have that money :D .

  8. Thank you Espinay2 - really appreciate you posting this I will forward it to his owners. I hope they report it, its just not good enough but I have privately now heard alot worse stories from this kennel.
  9. Totally. Absolute garbage on the part of the owner. He/she should be moving heaven and earth to find out what happened. Someone is not coming forward. I hope your friends take this further. Five days without treatment. Was the dog even fed???? No mention of trying to find out what happened at all. I am not sure what his owners are going to do - we bred the dog, I wouldn't be letting it rest at that and I certainly will be doing the opposite of recommending anyone to this kennel. At least 5 days without treatment - if I did this as a breeder I would be charged with cruelty - the same with them as owners - I can't believe that someone doesn't know what happened. Their vet is a very well known influential vet and they are disgusted as well. And the dog weighed 7 kilo's less when he came out of the kennel than when he went in. The vet wasn't impressed with that either - thats a big weight loss over a week. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. 7 kilos in a week and they didn't notice a bite mark. No one has looked at/feed glanced at this dog its entire stay. I'd be going to the RSPCA 7kgs weight loss and they didn't think to call the owners?? not to mention the bite marks - appaling!!! If the dog was fretting that badly the wonser should have been called and informed and then had a discussion regarding the best was to go about managing it ie different foods, hand feeding, puppy milk even. We are the first contact when they are out of the country and the kennel said that he happily ate all the food he was given. Obviously it wasn't enough for a dog his size and or it was poor quality. Yes I agree, if he happily ate all he was given then unless it was half sawdust he shouldn't ahve lost weight. Do the owners know what type of food they feed? I am not sure if they were told. Most kennels state what they feed will have to check their website.

  11. I've worked in kennels previously - mostly on the training side of things but still I know that dogs can stress in kennels and yes they normally do drop weight - Dobes normally aren't great in kennels, they are a very family orientated breed and they can stress alot. So I always tell our puppy people to put a few extra kgs on their dog prior to boarding them so that they come home their normal healty weight. This can happen and more often than not it does. But this dog was weighed the week prior to going in to the kennel at 40+ kgs and was then weighed at the vet when treated for his injuries at 33kgs. Plus the kennel said that he was happy, no trouble, didn't stress and ate all the food he was given.

  13. It's not good, but at least they didnt try to make something up to cover themselves. Agree with Clyde, at least they didn't make excuses. It is still disgraceful though . Will they at least be paying the vet bill? They wouldn't even acknowledge responsibility for it happening - so there was no appology, no offer to pay the vet bill - no nothing.
  14. Very sorry for your loss - just cannot believe they could let this happen. The very first thing I learnt when I first started grooming was to never leave a dog unattended on a table, in the bath, in a crate with dryer on them - didn't matter where - never leave them unattended. And never did we go on breaks at the one time either, there was always someone with the dogs. The business should be held accountable and I hope this happens. Doesn't bring your boy back though .
  15. Just spoke to his owner. The owner of the kennel said to her "I can offer you no explanation". The kennel said to his owner that they have no record of any incident, no-one has recorded any injuries or fights etc etc Thats it. Just fantastic - a short single coated dog is bitten and not one person that owns it or works there noticed the punture wounds or blood or anything. They are in a place that he cannot get to so he couldn't have licked it clean either. I could see them from the fence 5 mtrs away when I first saw him. The worst thing is that he didn't receive any veterinary care for at least 5 days and the deepest one is now infected - and if no-one noticed then it didn't even get cleaned or have anything applied to it. I am quite frankly - disgusted.
  16. Sorry haven't been near the computer today :). Firstly - I will answer all the PM's I have received re the kennel name - OMG So Many !!! Probably not tonight though, early start in the morning. Secondly - I cannot contact the kennel as he isn't my dog & I didn't board him so they won't give me any information at all. The dogs owner has photos of the wounds, has the vet report & bill and has attempted / is attempting to contact the kennel - no response as yet that I know of. The bites are around his shoulder blade area - not possible through a fence, this is like another dog trying to dominate bite. I told the owner not to expect too much - if they didn't even bother to call to advise of the injury / fight / altercation, I can't see them being good about this. But if they aren't I will certainly be advising everyone who visits our website of what happened and the kennel name etc And just from the pm's I have it will be costly to them already - the 'dog world' is a small place. He has been for a run with our dogs and didn't show any change in behaviour - I just hope that it hasn't affected his temperament / attitude towards dogs he doesn't know. Really all I personally want from them is the breed of dog that was involved so that I can ensure he is exposed to that breed in a controlled environment and we don't / won't have an issue in future. A 40kg entire male dobermann can certainly be a handful if that attitude is bad & we work hard to produce good temperaments on our dogs - and his owners have done a great job with him as well. He will never be kennelled again.
  17. To start with I would check the fine print on whatever they signed to board him. Thank you - will get them to check it.
  18. Oh forgot to state the bleeding obvious. While he is good with other dogs they were instructed not to run him with other dogs and his owners pay an extra $20. a day because he is an entire male and they also pay extra for his own 'house' & grass run. So - NO - he should not have been run with other dogs. Not sure if forum rules allow disclosure of business name ?.
  19. One of our dog owners had their boy in a kennel over the new year as they were away - I saw him the day prior to him being dropped off to do some show training with him and he looked great, ready to go into the ring with a few extra kgs to get him through the kennel stay. She rang me in a panic the night they picked him up because he had 3 marks on his coat - hair missing & scabbed. I caught up with them the day after he was picked up and saw that there were 3 puncture wounds and 1 grazed spot with coat totally missing. So trip to the vet - yes puncture wounds but 4 plus the grazed spot. Wounds all checked and cleaned, 1 with slight infection the other 3 almost healed over - the deepest one is the one infected. Antibiotic injection and tablets for a 10 day course. My issue is that the kennel said nothing at all, there was no phone call to say that he was injured and needed vet attention (so obviously didn't get that at the kennel) to them or to me (contact in emergency) and they said nothing at all when he was picked up. The owners husband picked him up and was jetlagged so he didn't notice when he was there - not until they were home. This is a 2 year old entire male - he is great with other dogs, never have an issue with him even if another dog fronts him but now who knows ! - what if he now has an issue with that breed whatever it was ?. I am so angry. Obviously they will never be sending their dog back there - the vet was disgusted as well and won't be refering anyone there - and needless to say I won't be either. But my question is - where do they stand with this situation and the kennel ?
  20. A frozen tub of water infront of a fan works like an aircon and keeps the moisture in the air. Like all those above - Frozen bottles, freezer packs or even cool mat or wet towels - all work for bubs. Watch for dehydration thats always my concern in the heat - I really hate having puppies at this time of the year and we have aircon - still I avoid it if I can.
  21. I have shown Neuters - both retired Dual Champions who were neutered due to age. It gave them a chance to get back in the ring and have some fun. I support the class and think it is valid but I do not agree with allowing limited registered dogs in the showring - the limited register is there for a reason. If someone who has one of our dogs that is on limited register wishes to show the dog in neuter and it is good enough to be shown as an entire dog then I will transfer it onto the main neuter register so that it can be shown. But a big no to allowing any limited registered dog in the showring.
  22. I like breed info, info about you, a page for each dog, health, puppies, results, links for breed info - research etc, I would like to have video of the dogs as well but found it slowed the site down too much - if people are like me I get bored while waiting and go elsewhere. While ours needs to be updated badly :)(working on our new ROM Dogs page now !!) - I do get alot of comments on how much people enjoy it, says its user friendly, they get a good feel for us and the dogs and visit alot :) - feel free to take a look if you wish (& any comments appreciated). http://bisartdobermanns.homestead.com
  23. Rings are set up in the middle area - same as last year. Great shame the front lights are not up and running for these shows.

  25. We use to recommend it for carsick dogs when I was working with ADT & NDTF - works a treat but never for this. Will try it with our next litter. Would a raspberry tea work ? Our healthfood shop has a lovely one - or is it something with the cordial that works better. No time to read the article now will come back to it tomorrow.
