OVCC decided it was important to offer and we found a way to cover the costs. As for the costs of the sashes, we had good sashes and they were close to $10 a sash, then there was the prize as well. Just wanted to point out that clubs need to factor in the other entries they get because they offer the neuter class. I have one neuter who is 8 1/2 and has 11 titles to her name inc Dual CH - she is being exhibited in neuter just to give her an outing and keep her busy - not necessarily for the title though she has 25 points, 2 NBIG & 1 NBIS so far . But my point was that I entered Ovens Valley because it meant I could take her and I had 4 other entered of my own, another 2 that I exhibit and another 2 entered because I could help their owner. So because of 1 Neuter entry you gained 8 other entries each day you might not have had as we had two shows here within 20 minutes drive that I drove past . . . I think that they more than covered the cost of the neuter sash. And I will do it again - so the clubs not offering this class need to reconsider this maybe.

I've just been dealing with this with our 9 mth old - she was in that fear period anyway and had a couple of major scares in the ring when she was coming into season (being run up on & run into) and it has taken me a couple of months to get her to be happy again in the ring. I just kept ensuring she was happy happy happy and with the much appreciated help of another exhibitor at the Noorat shows who gave me as much space as she needed in the class she came a long way that weekend. I have her entered this weekend but she won't be going as she has a add shoot booked next week with her sire and I am not risking her having any bad scares thus ruining all my hard work and her regained confidence. Just advise your fellow competitors prior to going into the ring of the issue and ask that they give you extra space for her - some (not all though) are more than happy to help by staying back. It just takes time & effort.

Thank you & how did you go with her - any difference in her attitude to the bones ??

proof please and to the original poster no your bitch does not need a litter to settle her down my vet told me that there is an increased risk...proof enough? We desexed our 8yr old recently - she has had two litters - no issue, no complications & no increased risk . . . but not a bad thing for a vet to be telling people, the less byb litters there are the better.

A hard thing to do with a puppy but I would starve her for 24 hours and then give her the food you want to feed her and only that. Catering to her every whim will only make her worse (been there done that !!!!). A 24 hr fast won't hurt her - promise. Her gums could be sore as teething will start soon too but ours normally devour more bones once that starts and the chewing helps with the teething process. You can give them Tissue Salts (all natural) which help with the pain and inflammation of teething. The ones I use are - Martin & Pleasance Tissue Salts - COMB R (Erupting Teeth).

The vets I worked for (a while ago now) offered all of this but it was discussed prior to the day of surgery and the cost wasn't anywhere near that . . . I think they leave it seperate as alot of people cannot afford it and to be honest most dogs don't really need it. Personally, we run a full blood panel on bitches about 4 mths out from them coming into season if being bred, dogs if at stud also and we run full blood panel on dogs over 8 annually. A dog younger than that comes out of anesthetic quite well - I don't think its necessary for a young, healthy dog (either) but we choose to have the fluids for dogs over 7/8 as it does help with the recovery process - they bounce back and get on with healing quicker. Anesthetic's in general are better now than they were 10 years ago but I think we all take it for granted a bit - there is still every chance that you can lose your dog/cat/human under anesthetic and that is why you have to sign permission / legally binding documents - the dangers of anesthetic are still listed in that paperwork - if you actually read it. The bloods show if there is any additional risk to be wary of and the fluids help to metabalise drugs used and aid recovery. I am sure your dog (once he gets over being crabby with you for taking away his bits ) will be his normal self in short order.

For Those Who Work And Raise Puppies

Save up holidays or take unpaid leave if necessary (boss is ok with this ). I take the first 4 weeks definately - just my preference but if pushed I would have the first two as a priority - my ever wonderful OH does the 2nd shift when I need him to and has taken off 3 weeks when I could only get 1 off work due to boss being in hosp - he's an . The last litter we had our girl went 2 days prior to my holidays starting - my boss was fine, all he said was text us photos :p. I generally do the 24/7 1st week by myself - nap when she sleeps and we are lucky I guess as we have fantastic mothers - I could have done nothing at all with our last litter, Lexi would have done it all (including the washing ). Best of luck with your babies - may all go according to plan. -
Well done to the MDBA for a great night - it was lovely to catch up with people I haven't seen for ages and to meet some fantastic people from interstate - we had the couple from Pets At Peace Central West - just a fantastic couple who are so very passionate about what they do and make such a difference to the people who's lives they touch and also Chris Lythollous, her partner and Banjo's owner - they told me their story prior to the evening even starting and had me tearing up then - what a fantastic person and it was a priviledge to meet her and hear their story - a very well deserved recognition. A great night . Well done to all the nominees & winners

Thanks. One of my puppies chewed it up just as I was about to take it in to submit title app - gotta love them . -
Such a great new site - NOT !! Every time I try to access the members section it won't accept my login and I have to email to get a new one. Obviously I cannot do that today as they are not there - so if anyone can access the site and get the following info for me that would be great. Cost Of reprint of pedigree Can it be done with 24 hr turnaround service If so what is the additional cost PM me if you like . Thanks

Your questions have been answered already but I was just wondering why the breeder of your puppy hasn't / isn't helping you with all of this ??? Thats a part of our job imho . . . It would make it so much easier if they could sit down with you and go through it all.

Not so sure about that - when I was nursing we had multiple birds. rodents, wildlife come back to life after inj to heart and vet declaring them gone and more than enough of the green dream was supposedly adminstered. Can't explain everything. Thank god it was never a dog or cat - don't think I could have dealt with that, but then all dogs and cats were put in the freezer until they were picked up to be cremated - the birds etc weren't.

Our 'old girl' - Rhemy was entered for her first Neutered Show this weekend to give her something to do and keep her out of trouble. She was the only one in our breed but got Neuter In Group both shows on Sat and Neuter in Show at the PM one . She had a ball showing off and none of the judges could quite believe that she is 8 yrs old . She enjoyed her weekend away with her kids and grandkids and showed them all up in the ring seeing as she hasn't been shown for probably close to 5 years. There does seem to be some of the 'old style' good sportsmanship in the ring with the neuters - maybe that is because its just for fun. She got a cheer when she got Neuter In Show from around the rings - nice to hear. She enjoyed it and so did I - will enter her again when they come up.

What a nice way to spend a couple of hours - watching alot of beautiful dogs being shown to perfection. Something to aspire to . Nice Deerhound.
-
I wouldn't have entered if it was 4 champ shows - the grounds are so bad I fractured my foot last year, the rings are way too small, there is no space to set up and in general it is just not fun. Caulfield won't be getting my entries ever again and I know I am not the only one.

We have just come home from a weekend away showing and I think about 90% of bitches there were in season. My boy worked beautifully on the Fri Night, was starting to lose it on the Sat and then by Sunday had perfect hackney movement when we walked into the ring - which the judge commented on and laughed when I told him that almost every bitch here is in season and he is so on his toes I will be lucky to get around the ring with him . He just laughed and said when I got back front triangle - yes, he needs a much bigger ring to hit his stride (which he does) and about 5 trips around it to settle I think. What can you do - one twot kept bringing her bitch into my tent and kept being told to go away !!! Must go away and work on a pheromone scent to counteract a bitch in season - will make a fortune .

Super Itchy Skin - Older Dobe

Is this the same boy as about a month ago ?? Poor bubba - he had no id did he ?? If you can id him we can trace heritage and very often pinpoint genetic issues. Test Thyroid and for yeast infection in ears - for some reason which our vets are putting down to the 'wonderful ' weather we have this year there is a 60 % increase in yeast infections in dogs over the past year - it can also travel down their coats. Sounds alot like it to me. Fairly easy to treat too (in a healthy dog). Good luck with him. -
I truely feel sorry for the committee of this show - The Classic used to be one of the icon shows in Victoria for the year - one of those you just had to be at. I wonder how long before they submit a new date for this show so that they can start building it into that icon show again. (fires/flooding - this will effect entries for their future shows). Maybe the call to cancel should have been made earlier but that is a hard call to make. The flooding at KCC has only been happening since the natural drainage points were filled in / closed off / changed. The property didn't have an issue until these things were changed. The major one being the natural flow off from the dam which used to run down the right hand side of the property. It still has to go somewhere and when the natural flow off is interrupted this means the excess water will sit there and then when there is extra rain - like now - it will flood. Whoever made the decision to change this several years ago has alot to answer for. Do committee's have any recourse against the VCA when this happens ? Imagine if this were a Specialty weekend at KCC and there were 8 + shows running with hundreds of exhibitors from interstate who would have already been here. I think some serious land management needs to occur and soon.
-
We are 5 mins away from KCC and we have a light lake in our back yard atm. Never had that here before - so I would assume that KCC will be well flooded - there has been alot of rain BUT at least the showing will be indoors.
