  1. I am going to keep that one for myself .
  2. Is that a dig at our fugly dobe tails ???. No more in this house !!!
  3. Yep - that was about it for me too . . .
  4. Some great suggestions as per usual - I knew you guys would come up with some good ones. Thanks for sharing.
  5. YES - can't PM you and didn't want to post on here blabbing . . . I haven't had it off much actually. Great jackets. Was funny at Temora shows - people kept asking me if I was you, I could have taken alot of orders for you over that weekend .
  6. One of my boys shows his own teeth on command :D (fully open mouth with lips curled up (dally smile)) - but with a 40+kg black dobermann male that might freak our a few judges . Doesn't bother me really - none of my dogs have picked up anything as far as I know. Though judges always seem to clean their hands after the bullys b4 dobes - I gather due to the excessive amount of slobber. If we had to do it ourselves it would sure provide some laughs with my young ones - its hard enough to get them to stand still and not play the get the tongue in the mouth game with the judge as it is.
  7. Our puppies get their first bones at 3 weeks - slightly smashed chicken necks and they do a pretty good job with them, they cannot fully eat them at that age but they start and develop their head, jaw & front muscles quicker when given them. They are fully weaned and eating bones with no issues btwn 4 & 5 weeks. I wouldn't have an 8 wk old drinking from mum still. Not good for the bitch and you are compromising his vaccinations by doing this as well. If he isn't eating properly I would be removing access to mum & checking digestion / stomach for any issues. Our breed is a much larger breed though and this is what we do for them - toys could be totally different.
  8. There is no form - I guess they thought that not many people would bother so it wasn't worth it!. I just needed to take in the desexing certificate & pedigree & pay the fee & that was it - no change to the registration # at all (I thought it might have an N added or something but no). Easy but yes you will need the certificate. Isn't there a cover charge to walk into Vic Dogs office now ??? Just joking . . .
  9. Need to be able to vote for each bitch as they are all different . I see no difference with our girls - I stop phantoms with natural drops and they get on with life. It affects our boys alot more . I don't hard work our girls into or out of a season though as their bodies do change but obedience training isn't that hard a job.
  10. I would never consider it an option. Our vet/s have said on numerous occasions that it is not safe to give to dogs under 12 months of age - my response is - if its not safe for them then its not safe enough for any of mine.
  11. Friends & I entered an interstate show this past weekend. First show was on Friday and the judging was quite even and unbiased even though there were no less than 20 All Breeds Judges present. The next two days of the show were a supreme lesson in you scratch my back & I'll scratch yours. I have never been witness to such obvious politics and people 'working it'. We overheard multiple conversations of judges stating that the next time they were judging in NZ the judge that gave them BIG/BIS would be rewarded equally etc etc - not one of them was even subtle or embarrassed about it even when sprung. Needless to say I am extremely glad that I had another reason for being in the area and that was actually the reason I entered these shows. I have no doubt that any of us will ever make that trip or support that show again and that means about 26 less dogs entered at all 3 shows - close to a grand less revenue with camping fees & food consumed. I also have no doubt that those who win this way won't care at all but they may when their clubs no longer survive and they have to travel to clubs where they have no influence over the judging panel.
  12. have to say I agree, the Myra Savant-Harris books are my bibles. I have other, very good books but I keep coming back to Myra. Yep, Puppy Intensive Care is the best book I have bought ever & I own ALOT of books . Make it the first book you buy and you will not regret it.
  13. I think it can be an issue. I give most judges an entry and then depending on what they do they will either get another one in the future or they won't. Its interesting talking to friends who are judges and they talk more about the 'corruption' than we do - it is certainly there. There are those in our breed/group who could walk in the ring with a rock on the end of the lead and win best in group / show - and it can be very uninspiring at times. But then on the other side - I enter under judges who I know like my dogs or the type of dog we have only to turn up to hear other exhibitors whinge because they know I will more than likely win. But I am not a face at all - my dogs do their winning on their merits and as far as I am concerned if I don't enter under the judges who do like my dogs then that would be just plain stupid - if my dogs weren't up to standard or didn't work for me they wouldn't win on the day either. I think there are enough 'honest' judges out there to keep our sport going though and if you have a good dog, present and show it well it will do its fair share of winning. I titled one of our boys in 6 weekends of showing - included in his title push he won a 23 pt BOB under an international breed specialist & 2 BIG's - he did that - not my face and that means alot more to me than winning falsly. I am not going to waste my time, effort and money entering under judges that I know will put up 'so&so' regardless of what they show, though - there are better things to do in life than that .
  14. God no! I usedto have my phone number on my website, I would receive phone calls at all hours of the night (read that as 2-4am!) asking for advice - From 10 yr old bitches having there first litter, to X breed god knows whats, people who had no idea the bitch was even pregnant, people who refused to go to a vet. Someone to come over and help out after a caesar or to puppy sit is a good idea I think. I am having a bit of dejavu Sway Isn't this what we have friends / mentors / vets (good ones) for . . .
  15. Very funny - needed a good cry laugh and that did it. Love the G Dane - one of ours does that with feathers but if she touches it by mistake she nearly hits the roof - will have to try and catch her .
  16. What a beautiful boy he is! Yeah - I'm going to steal him one day . Oh but he will have our new baby to play with soon - they should get on well Kez .
  17. Frozen Puppies produce it - try contacting them through - frozenpuppies.com.au.
  18. We have always paid stud fee's and had papers filled out and signed etc at the time of service. We have not had one bitch not take - touch wood. I am currently acquiring semen and the owners of one dog have stated that they would like a bitch from the litter instead of stud fee - thats fine by me but the bitch the semen is for is only 7 months old - so I am offering stud fee which they can hold for the time if they like and return it when pup ava. I just would not feel right doing it any other way and having them wait up to 2yrs just feels wrong - I want to have the semen collected now due to the age of the dog so that cannot wait for her to grow up. I guess different things work for everyone dependant on the circumstances and as long as both parties are happy and its fair on all concerned it doesn't really matter.
  19. Do you have the name or website for this company? Nope - just stumbled across it one day - will try and find it in our history log & will post it if I find it.
  20. This interests me greatly. Upon speaking to another breeder recently they stated that they can 'pick them when they are wet'. A pretty big call or is it ?. Can you when you have litters grade your puppies within their first 24 hrs of life ? At first I just shrugged it off thinking, well I won't say what I thought . But it has since been popping up in my head and has got me thinking about our last two litters. Alot of things I could see within the first few days - head structure, overall structure, bone, etc etc and so I have gone back over my notes from these litters and have realised that the notes I made from day one have corresponded with our eventually gradings within each litter. Now, I am not sure that I would say I am confident in grading a litter within the first few days as this is only our 3rd & 4th litters but with each litter we are developing the pedigree's we want to achieve and therefore are developing a constant type / style whatever you want to call it. So after closely looking at this I can see where this person comes up with such a statement - maybe after many more years of breeding I will be confident in grading a newborn. Interested to see what others think.
  21. Oh Yeah - especially when there is blood gushing out of the end of it ;) With all the injuries we have had on our 2 litters with full tails we have decided no more long tails in this house on a dobermann !!!!.
  22. Yep - and I'd love a custom built Winnie - we can dream
  23. Thats great - there is a company in the UK who make a similar trailer but they have living quarters in the front. They make them out of fibreglass & aliminium - much lighter. That would be the go - they also have interchangable dog pens / storage area, it can all be moved around & clips into place. Very interesting designs.
  24. I own a dobie with a tail and I agree with this comment whole heartedly. I've had so many of the general public, comment on how good my girl is and how good she looks yet last year when I took my old girl who was a Red with a docked tail out (PTS last year) I had people cross the street, yet I would have trusted my old girl over my girl now. People say my now dobie looks so friendly. I think it's the tail that does it. Yes, I think there is something in the perception that the dog looks friendlier. Personally I have nothing but huge respect for a dog whose appearance tells me that it is "on duty" and I never challenge that dog and open gates uninvited etc. I wonder if burglars and the like are lulled into a false sense of security by a long waggy tail. Silly silly person who thinks a dobermann won't step up and guard what it believes to be theirs - tail or no tail. They are a guard dog and properly bred will guard and protect with a stable even temperament but will put their lives on the line with no question at all. People fawn over our brown dobes and say what a beautiful dog / let their kids cuddle them etc etc until they ask what breed they are . Don't think the tail makes any difference. If anything it would actually give them extra power from the rear if they did attack - false sense of security indeed.
