Feathers . . . 43kg Black Male Dobermann who jumps all four feet off the ground about 5 foot in the air if he comes across a feather on the ground . His daughter Emme was running around with one in her mouth the other day when they were running together and he was beside himself - like he had to save her - ????????????? have no idea what started this or why but its hilarious. Need to take the video camera . . .

Firstly, very sorry about your drama's. It is very stressful to have all of this going on when you want to just enjoy it all. Your comment I bolded came quickly to my attention - bitches know instinctively if there is something wrong with a puppy. I can only answer from my own experience and my own breed. But if I had a bitch that had that trouble whelping/conceiving/carrying a litter I wouldn't breed her. I have had one puppy that the bitch kept pushing away and she was really rough with him etc etc so I did the 'right thing' and tube fed him to keep his weight up and keep him going. We lost him day 10. That was my first litter on my own (parents bred but not the same) and I learnt the hard way not to do that again. Though even he had doubled his birth weight by day 7 - I would expect all our puppies to do that at least (not sure if it is the same in all breeds - say giant or toys though). This puppies placenta was the only one that didn't smell right as well I didn't let my girl eat that one. It is hard to just let them survive on their own but you will be better off in the long run if you do. But if you decide to fight hard for him below is a fantastic rehydration mix that works better than anything else I have ever seen (I didn't have this at the time of the puppy above). REHYDRATION MIX 600ML BOILED WATER 2 TBS GLUCODIN ½ TSP BICARB ½ TSP SALT 5ML PER 500GM BODY WEIGHT EVERY HOUR FOR 24 HOURS THEN AS NEEDED (I do every hour for 24 then every 3 hours for 24 then when you think is needed) They don't need anything else apart from mums milk if you can get that happening. Link below for Pre-breeding exam for a bitch - I have been doing this with our girls for the past 5 years since learning more about Fading Puppies and how it can be prevented. The health of your bitch is vital to the survival of the puppies - obviously - this is why I place such importance on the tests listed - my vet thinks I go overboard sometimes though . Still would rather do everything I can to prevent issues arising. http://showdogsupersite.com/kenlclub/breedvet/vpbxm1.html I spoke to a friend recently who had a litter with several puppies who struggled to survive - they supplemented them and kept them going, all went to homes at 8 weeks. Job done you think but they have one with severe skin issues (auto-immune) and one with severe kidney issues and one is doing ok so far - these puppies are around 14 months from memory. Its a hard hobby we choose.

Wow - that went quick, the best thing is I know that I can always get those hard to find things from you. Congrats :D . -
I had the pleasure of sitting next to Gary at the Awards Dinner - what an inspiration he is. Over the course of the night it was clear that Banjo was his world - how devestating for him. My heart goes out to him in full.

A friend of mine with a recent litter has had this diagnosis on her bitch. Her vet has never seen this before and this is an experienced repo/breeder vet and I have spoken to a couple of the vets I worked with and they haven't either. I have her permission to post the path report which is below. On dicussing this and what course to take with her girl I thought it might be helpful if someone out there in DOL world had first hand experience they could share. PM me if you don't want it public. * This was found while doing a required C-Section as her bitch didn't go into labour. This bitch was bred 12 months ago and it didn't take (or did and they died which seems to be this mass found - or they could be this litter, they can't tell). The vet just took a section of it out to send to path - why they didn't suggest to the owner they should remove the entire horn & ovaries while they were in there I don't know. The suggestion now is that it needs to be removed and the vet wanted to do this 2 days after the bitches C-Section !!. My friend is waiting - I have suggested that gland and lymph node systems be tested prior to any surgery as the path report says it has likely spread and if it is lymphathic, well we know what that means. The bitch is happy and not in any pain - enjoying mothering her 3 surviving puppies etc etc. If you didn't know this was there you would say she is a perfectly healthy happy girl. The breeder of the bitch has not had anything like this prior and it is not suggested here that it is a genetic issue or their reponsibility at all. Upset for my friend and dreading the bad news day . Report. CLINICAL HISTORY Combination pregnancy/pyometrial/foetal re-absorption. Mass in (illegible) horn of pyohorn. Hyperplasia of os of fallopian tube or query tumour. MACROSCOPY Container unlabelled as to site - A polycystic tissue mass 22 x 17 x 12mm. 1 central TS + 2LS. Part processed. 1 block. ebl MICROSCOPY The tissue consists of multiple variably-sized cystic lobular structures, partially bound together by loose connective tissue which contains glandular acini. Cystic lobules are lined by single to multi-layered cuboidal to plump and crowded epithelium, around lumina filled with basophilic secretion, containing eosinophilic globular material and desquamated lining cells. Often, epithelial cells form complex papillary intraluminal structures. Epithelial cells have a moderate volume of eosinophilic cytoplasm, often with large clear vacuoles. Nuclei are round to oval with stippled coarse chromatin, and prominent central eosinophilic nucleoli, particularly in larger cells. There is moderate to marked anisocytosis and anisokaryosis, with frequent areas of karyomegaly and multiple nucleoli. Mitotic rate is up to 4 per high-power field including atypia. There are occasional foci of coagulative necrosis, sometimes forming the cyst contents. While most cystic lobules are bound by a thick capsule-like structure, additional lobules of dysplastic tissue are present outside and within the capsular tissue (local invasion). DIAGNOSIS Adenocarcinoma COMMENTS The mass is consistent with an adenocarcinoma. Tumour extends to all margins, as discussed with you on the phone today, excision appears incomplete, and regrowth is expected. Endometrial adenocarcinoma is poorly described in the bitch, with only sporadic case reports published widely. In this animal I advise a thorough check for more widespread disease including the abdominal lymph nodes and lung in particular. The potential of this tumour to spread is speculative; while the histological features would suggest a low grade malignancy in terms of invasiveness, being a visceral adenocarcinoma, the potential for metastasis is definitely there. Further tissue resection to acheive complete excision is recommended sooner rather than later.

Well Thank You Very Much You Thieving ****

Far out - I can't believe that someone would actually use the pen in the first place let alone this. Did you check with the committee - perhaps one of their crew packed it up thinking someone had left it there ?? Noticed they were very efficient in packing up and cleaning up things. -
If they were not both down at 6 to 8 weeks I wouldn't think that the 2nd one will come down. Do you know if both were ever down ? I remember someone telling me that they were getting a dog an ultrasound to see if a missing testicle was still there - this dog did have both down at baby age though. At least I think it was ultrasound I havn't come across this with our dogs - both testes are normally dropped by 6 weeks with ours. I have been told the story about a Great Dane who had a testicle implant due to one going missing - worked until a judge dismissed the dog due to having 3 testicles - Woops.

Would You Feed "out Of Date" Meat To Your Dogs?

Sweepstakes are great for training and settling puppies as you are in the ring for a while most the time. I would enter everything you can - then on the day you can decide if he's up to it or if he's had enough. The breed classes are usually over so quickly its not really an experience for a puppy - its usually over before their brain works out whats going on.

OMG - SWAY - thanks for the laugh . Fingers crossed for bubbas.

Just give your dogs some Manuka Honey, Vit C each day and keep them warm & dry. I also make a warm chicken broth with vegies for ours if there are dogs at a show with KC they come in contact with. Just help their immune system fight it off. If you would like to I know a Natropath who has 'Kennel Cough Drops' - I give them to our dogs over winter and they don't get affected by contact with dogs at shows. (I take it myself too and it gets rid of colds in a couple of days). And yes if they start coughing just good old cough syrup.

I found this website today just thought that some might be interested - good basic products with good pricing, not sure about dog food pricing as I don't buy it normally but everything else is well discounted. They do have Hill Prescription Diet Food though which is rare. www.trixanpet.com.au

2nd this one - lovely dogs, lovely people, have great temperaments, and they breed for the breed.
-
& the rest !!!! Does this mean that the RSPCA actually have half an idea what a reputable ANKC registered breeder goes through to produce a litter ? I don't think they have half a clue. A ANKC registered breeder in the area needs to write a letter of response to this papaer - listing ALL the costs involved point by point - just to make the point.

You mentioned obedience trial/s - I love / prefer going to the country trials - just a nicer atmosphere & I have my favorites . Look forward to seeing when this comes up on the schedule. Just a question / suggestion but I think that Victoria is in need of another Endurance Test as well - any chance this club would look at running one of these as well, there are certainly the numbers to support it.
-
As per everyone else - we take their preference but explain that there is no guarantee that exactly what they want will be available plus then puppies have to be assessed temperament / conformation etc etc at 6 to 8 weeks so again no-one is told exactly. I put them back in their boxes as well ( Sway) - While I have all the time in the world for our puppy people - I don't have the time to be wasting on people who aren't genuine. I had some guy ring me last week demanding a black male (yes thats possible but we have 3 on order already ), then 'strongly suggested' that I negotiate the price down with him - (I don't negotiate when I already have 5 puppies + ours sold from a litter that is due at the end of the year) and to top that off 'told' me that they wanted to visit our house to meet the mother and the father (dam fine but sire we don't own) - He then 'told' me that I needed to get the sire to our house so that they could meet him (the next day mind you ). Besides that - never do I have first meetings with people that I don't know at my house. NEVER !. I told him that I was happy to bring the dam to the show (last sat) if he wanted to come there but that wasn't good enough he was adamant that they come to our house the very next day. Well he got told NO ! - and suprise suprise he did't call me back re coming to the show . Sometime the box is much required.

Wow - entries must be down for them to be doing this. Nice for those who wish to enter though.

Put Your Puppies Or Dogs On A Dvd Set To Music With Words

We have done this with all our litters - one dvd with video & one with photos. My partner Greg did it on our computer for the first litter and we both did the last few. Puppy people love it . -
Puppies Down In Pasterns - Any Advice?
Bisart Dobes replied to Kirty's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I seriously think you can rule out dobermann as a breed - dobermann structure is just not apparent. Is the girl docked or bobtailed ??? or is her tail tucked under her belly. I would be thinking maybe Aussie / Border. They do not seem to be a larger breed at any rate, so I would not be over concerned with the pasterns at the moment - just concentrate on getting them settled, cleaned up health wise and eating a good diet. They will come together as this all falls into place. Poor babies . -
I had a cat who lived to 22 years old - beautiful Mozart - he did this too and if he had access would actually use the toilet !! And in summer he would sleep in the sinks - it was nice & cool I guess.

Sea Mineral Dermal Ointment by Virbac. Its the best product I have found for the dogs pads - conditions them beautifully. I would think that condy's would dry the pads out too much and you don't want that as then you can have issues with them cracking open. We used to use the Sea Mineral products on horses years ago and they are just as good on the dogs. You can get a spray as well for coat issues.

Puppies Down In Pasterns - Any Advice?
Bisart Dobes replied to Kirty's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Any idea what breed ??? Just asking because in breeds like the Danes / Dobies / Rotties etc etc this can be corrected with a sort of breed specific direction. But a good start would be chicken carcass/ mince / necks / etc etc -
Animal Welfare Groups Say Australian Dogs Are Being 'sold Into Mis
Bisart Dobes replied to SwaY's topic in In The News
I know someone who worked for a couple of the animal transport companies - these 'shippers' move hundreds & hundreds of puppies OS each week in litter lots / breed lots. It is commercial and it is business - $$$ - thats about it. The bad thing is that the puppy farmers / mass shippers turn it into a mess for ANKC Breeders to export puppies / dogs OS. & I know there are ANKC registered breeders who are a part of this whole thing as well - sadly.
