  1. Never have any trouble - park across the road from the show in someones driveway / yard and walk all my stuff and dog/s across. You just have to be prepared to be patient and relaxed about it all. Its busy, its full on public all day, its noisy, its a long day etc etc BUT thats the Royal .
  2. In our breed it is normally the square bodied dogs who pace alot - though I have seen one long male recently who paces consistently. It also seems to be a something they fall into when they are feeling lazy, tired, preoccupied with a scent or needing to go to the toilet. Not sure that it is a sign of bad joints - is the dog a shorter bodied dog perhaps ?
  3. Not enough importance is placed on Dobermanns markings - they should be a deep rust, clearly defined in shape & size and have little to no specking through them. Even the ANKC registration of our breed was changed last year to require rust markings on registration papers. If you actually look at the dobermanns in the show ring alot of them have an almost cream marking and alot have the 'tan' markings running up the whole rear leg - its not correct and it should be more highly regarded both by breeders and judges. It is the same as a light eye - its not desirable. Edited to add: I have no preference in colour when selecting a puppy from our litters - black or brown but I would if buying a puppy decline it if it was mismarked / miscoloured as above - the same goes for stud dog selection. It is not the most important thing - health, conformation & temperament rate above it but it is about our breed type.
  4. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their assistance both here and privately. Unfortunately my mother in law went and bought a 14 week old Maltese from a pet shop and then has rung 3 times for advice on pretty much everything. My last answer was not so polite - 'Perhaps ring the pet shop, they will help you with this won't they' . . . Hmmmmmmm . . .
  5. Have no idea what they are called but Spotlight have them in their crafts / jewelery section (and lots of nice beads etc).
  6. So annoyed with myself - a local show offering the Neuter Class & I missed the entries . . . Went to do entries early this week and then realised it closed on the 9th !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who else got caught .
  7. I feel like we have lost this fight well and truely.
  8. Did anyone else hear this advertisement ? I heard this on the radio today - not word for word and I am happy to be corrected. I was so shocked at even hearing this on the radio that I may have the exact date wrong but I think its all right. It was via the DPI. "If you own a pit bull or pit bull cross and it is not registered with your local council then it will be siezed and destroyed as of 28th September" Very scarey
  9. Her last one was ugly, old and grumpy so she sounds perfect - are you sure you can't part with her ? LOL.
  10. I like to see a judge who knows what they want - make that cut and excuse the rest - it means the judge can really focus on what they want. If not in the top cut I would much rather leave the ring than be standing there for ages and when I am one of the ones shorlisted with my dogs I cherish the full ring to run them around.
  11. Do you have a photo of the dog ?? Happy to show them.
  12. - Here we go, if you are not ready best get a move on. 30 Vic grass fires sign of things to comeAAP September 19, 2011, 7:43 pm Post Commenttweet0EmailPrint Victoria's Country Fire Authority (CFA) is warning that a spate of grass and scrub fires around the state is an early sign of things to come during the looming bushfire season. Firefighters responded to about 30 grass and scrub fires on Monday, fanned by strong winds and high temperatures. The largest fire began in an excavator, which spread to nearby bushland at Shady Creek in Gippsland and took 13 crews to extinguish. On the city's fringe, 50 firefighters battled high winds to control a fire that started in an old timber house in Upwey and spread quickly to neighbouring houses. One house was totally destroyed, while a second was seriously damaged. CFA state duty officer Stephen Walls warned the busy day was an early indicator of what Victorians can expect from the 2011/12 fire season that officially begins in November. "With the warmer weather comes significant growth and that means fuel for fires," he said. The first day of hot, windy conditions was a timely reminder to clear land and prepare for summer. "After several years of higher than average rain, fuel levels are high," Mr Walls said. "It's never too early to begin slashing and clearing, and make sure you're prepared for the risk of fires." He warned residents in areas thought to be safe from bushfire to consider the threat of fast-moving grass and scrub fires near their properties. Residents are urged to have a detailed bushfire survival plan if they live or holiday in high-risk bushfire areas.
  13. Good changes. For someone (like me) who likes to spell / rotate the dogs they are showing this makes it a fairer system. Are you adding the CCD title by chance (to the breeders pointscore) ???
  14. Thanks - yes looked at the dol malt pages. Yes - we have started the process with 'Millie' on the pet rescue site. There are a few others I have saved to favs for them to look at - my partner is going to help them tomorrow with the pet rescue application. Breaks my heart to look through at all those faces looking for a loving home . Qld is a bit far - they would prefer to meet the dog prior to adopting - being elderly it needs to be the right one for them.
  15. Hi - my mother in law recently lost her Maltese X and is missing her so much that they have started the search for another dog. Fantastic home, the dog will want for nothing, her last girl - Suzie was 19 years old this year. I would give them a dog but ours are too big . They have suggested going to the pet shops but then asked if there was any way I could help. There is one Malt in Mildura we are looking into that is with a rescue group but I was thinking that maybe someone knows of another Pure bred that is looking for a good home a bit closer. An older puppy / dog is needed as I don't think they could cope with a baby puppy. Any help is appreciated.
