Done the RR It helped, surprisingly!! I can't believe it's only midday I feel like I've been here for ages! heh. :D thank you to everyone for your support!!

;) Glad to know I'm not alone :p Yestrerday's nesting wasn't as frantic as this morning, however now she's settled into her box. She ate a little bit of boiled chicken and I gave her a small amount of puppy milk (turns her nose up at the water ). She is now quiet but still alert when we talk to her etc (ears forward and listening). I wish there were consistent whelping literature I have a few main sources of info (books and pdf files), but some of the things vary, especially timeframes etc. Sigh. If there is nothing happening (she looks quite content in her bed) I guess everything is okay??? I'm also getting sort of restless- a little on edge waiting for something to happen, gives me too much time to worry at least if something were happening I could find a solution Anyway... rambling now. Sorry guys

Okay I'm now dosed up on Rescue Remedy and feeling a little better lol. At the moment Ziva is sitting in her box-cave looking contemplative (if a dog can have such an expression ), wagging her tail when we speak to her. She also isn't due until tomorrow so I guess it's possible for her to hold out until then, although I would like to get it over with now thank you!!

I'm starting to feel a little ill now LOL. And embarrassed. Sigh. But the vet assured me that first stage could go for upto 36 hours in a first litter without any issues, as long as she's not got any smelly discharge or in obvious distress etc. It's also hard without either of our regular vets available (great timing, Ziva)
-
The vet laughed at me Ziva had another 'digging fit' while I was on the phone and I described exactly what she was doing... still first stage. I asked how much longer can she do this (sporadic digging etc) and he said another 12 hours or so before we should start to worry. It was the emergency vet as both our normal vets are away
-
BTs seem to vary- some need ceaser's and other's are free... Ziva's mum and sister are both free. Okay, re-read my BT book and it looks like it wasn't contractions after all, there was no pushing down or a 'ripple' along the body? More frantic bed-digging?? It wasn't that long ago... anyway, on hold for the vet now.

Sorry guys- nothing much to report yet! I think I took the tiniest signs yesterday and got a bit excited :embarrass: So we got a few hours sleep last night. However this morning she has had a few, far apart contractions poor thing looked like she wanted to kill the bedding but then it stopped and she settled... then she pooped about 10 minutes ago, ran around wagging her tail and is now back in the whelping box looking a little miserable. But otherwise fine. Ate a little yoghurt off my finger and drank some water. This is kind of boring but I guess boring = textbook = good!!! (and don't worry, any negative signs or if she looks off, she will be off to the vet!! Not risking anything even if I end up looking like an idiot and the vet says "umm... this is perfectly normal... it's called whelping" :D This made me LOL. Hopefully soon.... (and yes there will be updates as the laptop is right beside the box... what's a little birthing fluid gonna hurt?? :p )

This is hilarious Border Terriers are (mostly) perfect jogging companions ;) ;) Caber would be ace if only I were better LOL. He has the natural ability/desire to remain beside you whatever pace you're at. Yes, I love my lil' man
-
Very bored LOL. But getting some uni stuff done so it's not a complete waste of time hehe. Thank you again I will call if I need any help (or just to say "OMG is this what's meant to happen?" LOL). BUT if nothing else changes once I finish this report, I'm gonna have to get some sleep otherwise I will be buggered tomorrow That's if I can sleep lol.

LOL Anne. Not quite... but she is getting more restless as the night goes on. Mum has gone to bed so it's just me & Ziva amusing ourselves LOL. This waiting part is hard!! Don't know about anyone else but I find it a little stressful- any time she does something it's a moment of "OMG what's happening??" Then she's back to normal... She was wandering around looking for a 'cave' so I put 3 walls around the whelping box & a blanket over the top- this seems to impress her
-
Thanks guys No news yet LOL. Except that it is COLD here so we have the heater on LMAO. Just to try and regulate the temperature of the house for her and her bubs She keeps looking for somewhere to rest, but doesn't settle down for long, scratches the carpet etc. And she wont let me out of her sight. But still seems very happy so now we play the waiting game (Oh, got my package too lol so my kit is complete . The wombaroo smells yummy ) Hope to have some news to share soon
-
Will see her at Ring 5 then! (there's a couple of lappies this time around! ) How's your girl going btw? All systems ready to go??? Check the thread in Breeder's for updates Lots of Lappies!!! And I'm gonna miss them :D
-
Thank you, Aziah & Bulldust Her xray on Friday showed 7 :D with possibly an eighth hiding behind another.
-
Okay, because I can and I want a record of this :D From Saturday night, Ziva and I have been sleeping in the spare-turned-whelping room, her in the whelping box and me on a stretcher beside her. Last night she slept very close to me however and this morning, her temp was just on 37. Around lunchtime her temp was down to 36.8 and she has been acting a little differently. She is due on Wednesday but it looks like she is on her way. Of course, given that this is my first whelping, I could be looking far too much into it but I have a feeling that this is the ball rolling. She is currently sitting under my chair, occasionally scratching at the carpet or her box. She had a few half-hearted bites of her lunch and just looks..... different. Anyway, this is our thread be prepared for potentially stupid questions or random updates LOL. Mum's leave doesn't start 'til tomorrow but her work has graciously allowed her to leave early and she should be home shortly. My whelping kit is almost complete (I have a package waiting for me at the Post Office which mum will collect on her way home from work, which contains the final items I need), however I have all the basics ready and waiting plus LOTS of towels and newspapers
-
IMO there is no age that is 'too old' as long as the dog is sound and happy to be there :D 2 and a half is still quite young, some breeds don't even reach their prime until older (4-5).
-
Mum only entered Australia Day and that arrived today :D
-
Just a little I seriously don't know how they can all fit LMAO. And they are getting very active :D But Ziva is still very happy and cheerful. And still trying to play Though she's not allowed rough n tumble- just some running
-
I will be interested to see the DNA results LOL but I'm betting it's the little guy. It's always the quiet ones Hope noone jumped the fence
-
Why wouldn't you? BB DNA profiles their litters anyway BB & BBJ I am :D right now!!! That little boy of yours Watch out he doesn't get to Zarah What color bubs can you get from Holly/Rev??? *canthaveonecanthaveonecanthaveone*

Inbreeding seems to be more problematic in certain breeds, colors & varieties and it also depends on the degree of inbreeding/how many generations are inbred and how close they are. I have chosen to linebreed with my litter (I put my bitch's nephew over her), however the dog's sire is a complete outcross. With regard to breed type, a complete outcross can be as hazardous as inbreeding and IMO needs to be done carefully and with a clear plan for the future (Ie: constantly outcrossing will lose type and can lead to less predictable temperament and conformation etc). Personally, I would like to avoid close inbreeding (parent to child), because a)it weirds me out and b)I don't see the need for it in my breed as although rare, there are enough lines and mixtures of lines around that it is not necessarry.

Advert In Supermarket For Registered Pups
SpikesPuppy replied to Sagittarian's topic in General Dog Discussion
Who is going to stop at the supermarket and read an a4 page of what is largely (to many memebers of the public) gobbledegook?? Not knowing who this breeder is, whether they are ethical or not, it is entirely possible that when someone contacts them for more details, the breeder will go through the usual screening process. Also, the litter may have been larger than expected or not enough of a particular gender or color to satisfy their puppy list. Many variables (or they could of course just be a registered BYBer *shrug* ) -
:cheer: Go Thrilla!!! She is just devine and very deserving of her fringies Her movement is to die for

I don't mind it- it makes the 'product' (pedigree dogs) visible to the general public. -
Breeders. Reg & Non Reg ? Have I Got This Right ?
SpikesPuppy replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have asked myself that question more than once. Especially with the recent incident regarding Judy & her Tibbies and the VCA's lack of interest/support in the matter I keep wondering why I'm spending so much money doing the 'right thing' when I will get zero support from it?? I can get zero support for free
