  1. Ziva was the same, on the 4th day though she ate on her own And is now scoffing every meal as well as snacking on kibble throughout the day.
  2. Was the dog 3rd out of 3 or did it actually win 3rd place?
  3. What breed is he? Chicken necks or wings are great for puppies to munch on (however I always supervise and hold it at first to teach the pup to chew and not swallow it whole ). I feed my dogs mostly on high quality kibble- I don't trust myself to do a correct BARF diet. However they get chicken frames (whole), chicken necks, beef chunks, some Nature's Gift tinned, tinned fish, and pet mince (however we only buy this from the one pet shop where we are certain of the quality & freshness). Also get some dog roll (PRIME or 4 Legs- PRIME has a great 100% shredded beef roll which freezes perfectly)) or 4 Legs fresh cube thingys. As well as eggs and some leftovers etc. They get these 'additions' on different nights.
  4. I'm a little confused, why would the local council be in charge of changing microchip registration?? Doesn't that fall to the microchip registry the dog is registered with (CAR, NPR, etc??). I don't trust my council to wipe their own rear ends let alone handle change of ownership But if that's what I have to do I will... In NSW, for the NSW chip register, changes have to go through your local council. For 'private' registers like AAR, CAR etc you go though them directly Still confused LOL. Will just get the vet to explain it to me when I get them done I would like to go with CAR as that's what the other animals are all with.

  6. I was stewarding toys about 6 months ago and a friend who is also a steward wandered up and said "who did you piss off to wind up with this ring?" Terriers can also suffer from the "a bazillion little dogs in crates" syndrome tho'. JRTs especially. Terrier people also seem to be frantic like their dogs and rushing about at a zillion miles an hour There should be a limit on how many dogs per lead you can use It's not like they are expensive!!
  7. Mum's smooth collie can go from a stand to above your head in an instant. A bit scary LOL.
  8. We HAD 3 beds in the living room (3 dogs), plus an open crate as well as the couches I say had 3 because Miss Nessa decided to get revenge after her bath yesterday and when no one was looking and she was in the playpen drying off, she destroyed Caber's big cushion (All the beds are big enough for either the Borders or the Collie, except the crate which is BT sized). I like having a bed for each dog, but it doesn't matter if they bed-hop...
  9. My cat would go for walks on his lead and to the vet etc. He was perfectly calm and happy & would sit or lay on my lap. Or show off his tricks to interested parties Interstingly enough, I never had many dogs interested in him when he was on my lap, however when mum's cat was brought in (in a carrier) she would yowl her head off in disgust which would set all the dogs off?? However I would never have had my cat loose in the clinic.
  10. Don't your vets have their own carpark? That must be hard for people with very sick animals If it is not suitable to leave your dog in the car, you could do what lots of people here seem to do, and take him to the door, open the door and yell "I am here and waiting outside" or "my dog isnt good with cats, could you put the clinic cat away?" or " .... are there any loose cats in the waiting room" etc. Our old vet only had 2 designated clinic carparks (they had more until the block adjoining was sold for apartments). There was street parking but as it was a block away from the main shopping strip, these were often taken by regular shoppers. This vet did not have a cat or other roaming animals... did have a lizard though and a small dog but he stayed in his basket behind the counter unless you called him over. FTR, I don't require cats or dogs to be put away , but that is not the point. The point is I should be able to walk into a veterinary clinic without having to worry about the resident animal distressing mine or being responsible for it not escaping. And I certainly should not have to deal with some furball rubbing up and down my face while I'm trying to sign my credit card!!
  11. Kinda glad I don't have big boofers We prog. tested Ziva, took her to the stud (virgin) when the vet suggested, within 15 minutes of them wandering the yard together they had tied Well, I had Ziva's long lead on and was following their wandering LOL. Held Ziva while the dog turned, just in case she tried to bolt, but all was good. 20 minute tie YAY. Left Ziva there overnight, just before bed the dogs had another decent tie. Separated overnight... next morning, tied again and once more in the afternoon, I decided to leave her one more night.... During the 'downtime' they either played or slept (visible from the stud owner's living room window and never unsupervised- if they were left alone, Ziva was in the house)!! There was no chasing or randy/ratbag behaviour from the boy. There was a 5th tie the following morning and then I picked her up. There was no stress from either dog and apart from the first time, no human intervention. I will say, I am SO GLAD I prog. tested her because it wasn't until quite late in her season that she was ready- if I had taken her on day 9 or even 11, it would have been too early, and there was no point in listening to the bitch because she never flagged at home (not to Caber who we 'used' to test her, or nessa or us when we scratched her rump etc), but as soon as she saw the stud dog she flagged her little heart out!! Also the due date was 100% spot on. So for progesterone testing from me
  12. I would be trying EVERYTHING to get her to eat something- chook breast, tinned fish, various dog foods from the supermarket etc Ziva also ate some kibble soaked in the puppy milk. My girl was very fussy for most of her pregnancy and I was trying something new every few days as well as hand feeding her etc. She was a difficult girl!! And yes, she too is normally a garbage guts Also agree with taking her to the vet- better to be safe than sorry!!
  13. I have had a few judges offer to leave the mouth on a baby, if this happens, I have actually asked them to just feel the teeth and all have obliged IMO even just gently putting a finger under the lip is good enough for a baby puppy to associate good things.
  14. Sadly I have seen several Cattle dogs around here that look like that as well as a little short-legged Corgi looking dog.
  15. One of these gorgeous girls will be hitting the ring at the end of April (yep, just a little excited :) ). Look out, Group 2!!!
  16. That is horrible!!! We get a few judges in both our breeds that seem very uninterested. it makes you feel as though you are wasting their time : Borders are an early breed so you can't use the judge has had a long day excuse!
  17. Not dogs but a friend taught her horse to rear... the problem was, he was a pig of a thing and she relatively inexperienced and whenever he didn't want to do something, up he would go :shakehead: I don't think my dogs know anything particularly inappropriate..... more that they have picked up bad habits due to being very very smart (I swear they know when we are smiling so if it's cute but inappropriate and they catch us trying to hide our amusement they think they are on a winning streak ). I should have picked a dumb breed!!! Oooh I know- I did encourage Caber to rifle through boxes and such as a puppy... fine as he knows not to touch *our* bags and stuff but if anyone visits and we forget to tell them to put their bag up, he goes through it. Oh the shame!!
  18. Part of the poor quality would have to come from fanciers of the parti's not being able to use the best conformed dogs in their programs though? I mean, it is against the CoE to breed Main reg. with a limit or unreg. dog... so those who want to keep the parti's going have to go it alone or break the CoE.

  20. I reckon Ridgeback X Bull Arab type. Whatever he is, he looks lovely- he has a very sweet smile
  21. One of my dogs was attacked by a cat when we were out walking..... Cats should be contained on their own properties anyway I find it very frustrating when at one of the clinics we use, their cat rubs its body across my arms and under my chin etc when I'm trying to pay for my consult. What if I were allergic to cats??? Their printer is also constantly clogged because he sleeps in the paper tray which means it takes much longer than it should for my receipt to be printed. A resident cat, dog, rabbit or lizard or whatever is fine, but just ensure that it does not cause a hassle for your clients. Another clinic had a nurse's dog ther each day... all fine and dandy except everytime you opened the door, he would try to bolt so you would have to wrangle the door, yourself and whatever you were carrying plus the animal you had the appointment for. Naturally, none of the staff did anything but a halfhearted chuckle about how cheeky he was. On the topic of cats though, I used to walk my cat everywhere on a leash, to the park, around the block and to the vets. He wasn't in carrier but he was under control? As for leaving the dog in the car while asking the vet to contain their cat.... what if it's a hot day, or the only car park is several blocks down the street??
  22. UGH what an idiot woman!!!!! Poor kid will end up getting bitten one day.
  23. Terrifying :p As others have said- it's not whether or not you've done anything wrong but until you get your day in court, the trauma & distress they can cause by arriving at your door with their entourage, seizing your dogs and marching all over your home..... I find the legislation difficult to understand- I had a uni lecturer (practising prosecutor) go over the legislation for me recently and she could barely make heads or tails of it
  24. And here we have the root of the problem. The person who took that puppy didn't want it any more, or didn't care enough about it to find it when it got out. There is no over supply of dogs - what there is an oversupply of is people who are not committed to keeping the dog, people who did not train the dog, people who did not carefully consider before they took the pup. The problem begins with the breeder, whether cross bred, purebred, or designer mutt. If the breeder does not qualify the homes for the pups, and ensure that the home is the lifetime hnme and just sells to anyone, there will be dogs in the pound. Bit off topic!! All dogs deserve good homes. Anyone breeding them should be aware of that. They should not be bred unless that can be guaranteed. If unspeyed bitches become pregnant, and the owners do not think they can find all the pups homes, the bitch should be speyed early in the pregnancy. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen. It's all probably not about cross bred and purebred, it's about responsible breeding, no matter what it is, and responsible homing to well chosen lifetime homes. If you can't do that, don't breed. JMHO This is exactly how I feel, Jed. There is NO oversupply of dogs... and if those unprepared to make that 15-20 year commitment refrained from buying that cute puppy, there would be no homeless dogs. With regard to responsible homing though- we can only do our best and hope that our gut instinct is correct and that our puppy buyers actually DO contact us if they can no longer keep their dog, because guess what? Life sometimes changes and no matter how much we love our dogs, we can't (or should not) always keep them. There are plenty of mongrel or designer dog owners who are very responsible..... just as there are people who say all the right things to buy a pedigree pup and dump it when it no longer fits in.
  25. Ha! I saw that! Why would they have such a big gap in that area???
