  1. What's the Scottish breed thingy? The link makes my Firefox crash With smoothies & Borders on the same day...... seriously considering it!!! Just need a trailer.
  2. Another $300 on top of CC registration, shows, super premium diet, chiropractic treatment to keep dogs in tip top shape, entry fees etc???? It may not seem a lot to you but for exhibitors and sometime breeders, it's a HUGE extra expense. I would much rather spend that on spoiling my dogs. And for those who never intend to breed but choose to keep their dogs entire for other reasons (educated to the possible dangers, exhibit, working animals, dogs who cannot be desexed due to health issues, etc) it's alot of money.....
  3. I went for a walk this evening, with my Border Terrier (9kilo) and Collie smooth (about 23kg but quite large/tall). While waiting outside the pizza shop for our order, my guys were being fussed over by a few members of the public, both having a great time and being very friendly. Anyway, along came a smaller dog (maybe 6 kilo, looked like a JRT size), it was heaving, snarling choking itself on the end of it's leash as it passed us. It was at the end of a 6 foot nylon lead fortunately my guys both wagged their tails at it, but it got within a foot of mine, due to it's idiot owner, and honestly, if mine were not so well trained it could have ended very badly I'm sorry but as both a small and medium/large dog owner (and even when I had my 70 kg Newfy and 30kg Dobe), i was and still feel afraid to walk my dogs because of what may happen to them. Small dogs CAN AND DO cause damage to others. As I posted earlier, my small terrier caused the collie to be lame for 2 days with just bruising. Imagine what she could have done if we didn't intervene in time!!!!! Front yard or no, if it's on your own friggen' property you should be able to do wht you like with your own dogs and NOT have to worry about what may happen if your idiot neighbours allow their dog to roam. It is the small dog who should have been contained (we have secure fences but I choose to crate my terriers inside so they cannot escape accidentally. EVER.)
  4. Ours get a couple of tablespoons of Nature's Gift tinned a few times a week (every second day or so). I believe it to be the best tinned food available. They get mostly kibble (Eagle Pack), with something different added each night (Nature's Gift tinned, chicken necks, raw egg with crushed shell, sardines or other tinned fish (sometimes whole fish catfood like Snappy Tom- less messy as I have a habit of 'popping' the lid off and the oil goes everywhere with sardines LOL), leftovers, Four Legs or Prime dog roll etc), plus a whole chicken frame each at least once per week as the entire meal, except my bitch gets chicken necks or wings instead 'cos she swallows the frames They will also eat plain kibble if they have too (if we go away etc). They know if they don't eat what's offered, they go without
  5. She's a Senator, the only legislation I have seen people concerned about lately is all state so why would she be relevant? The only Commonwealth dog legislation I am aware of is the import bans. But if you want to contact her all her details will be on aph.gov.au (parliament house site) I don't want to contact her at the moment (nothing to say), but figure it's handy to know who's a dog-nut and who's not in the political World for future reference. I did not know she was federal, please forgive my ignorance.
  6. Bloody hell. I reckon if a strange dog got into my yard, my small terriers would quite possibly do some damage to it if they weren't stopped... not too long ago my Border bitch had a hissy and went for mum's collie (first time she'd initiated and we think due to hormones/protection over her babies), the Collie was lame for 2 days because of bruising on her foreleg The terrier weighs all of 7 kilos..... Re: the Skye Terrier mentioned above- they would be one of the most serious of all dogs IMO and certainly NOT one I'd want to mess with they have some awesome teeth and the attitude to go with 'em!! Great with their people but equally great at doing what they were bred for- hunting badger. Just a thought, I wonder if this woman could be one to have on-side regarding the latest legislation issues??? If she's a doggy person..... anyone have any contacts??
  7. Blurgh. What a crap rule. Many people choose not to desex because they are a responsible owner and have weighed up the pros and cons of the operation. Or they exhibit. Sure some people have an "oops some dog jumped the fence" litter but I also know some fairly casual "desexing costs too much" owners who's dog has never gotten out or had a litter
  8. SP I thought that Bronte would run away too as she is a really soft dog. She wasn't the slightest bit worried about the sheep and kinda got that she was supposed to go up near them. She was more worried Daniel the trainer, he's a 'man', or in he's terms a 'bloke' and 'men/blokes' are scary sometimes according to Bronte. She got over that pretty quick though, think having the sheep there distracted her. Bark, yep we got plenty of that, but not when she was in with the sheep, but when she was bored and watching the other dogs have their turn. Damn that Collie bark can be high pitched can't it. PMing you now. I think Nessa & Bronte MUST be separated at birth she is the same when she is bored/waiting around (and yup, high pitched!!), she's just started obedience and is fine when doing stuff but OMG having to wait a few minutes?? BOR-RING lol.
  9. Can hardly believe the low Terrier entry, especially the Open show very disappointing. Nessa is entered in both
  10. Oooh yes we will definitely meet her!!! Lappies are the next breed after Smooths and we always watch them Lappies give the best cuddles!!!

That would NEVER get in. The USA is the gun capital of the world and where I used to live is the capital city....Virginia. They are very anal retentive about gun rights and taking kids out hunting from the age of 10 is pretty much the norm where I use to live. They are weird on what is suitable and what isn't though. I would see dead people laying on the streets on the nightly news, when I lived there, yet the whole country goes up in arms over Janet Jacksons wardrobe malfunction and OMG shows a boob........ for christs sake. Weird indeed. Talk about going to extremes!! I have a friend who lives in Tx and she can't wait 'til her 18th birthday when she gets her new rifle. She's had her current one since she was 13 and the one before that since she was 8!! Ain't nothing wrong with her compassion or attitude towards animals- she's always bringing strays home and spends all her wages on medical care for them to make them suitable for re-homing! Howl: Trimming toenails was mentioned in the Opening Post.
  12. This is possibly where I've gotten confused (I knew there was some funny rule, forgive me for not knowing exactly what it was ). Still trying to find the brochure I had though lol. It's more of a mission now than anything (You know when you *Know* you have seen something, but cannot for the life of you remember where? It's one of those things). Unfortunately, none of my current puppy buyers are interested in showing, however because they would be in baby class at our specialty I was hoping to bump up the entry numbers & revenue if I could (and we often only have 1 or no babies entered so it would be nice to see a full class!!). But anyway, I have one pup in particular that I really like so am going to talk to his owners and if they agree, will put him on Main at least until our specialty (he is to be desexed between 8-12 months anyway, the later the better for maturity but they don't want an entire adult dog, which is fine!!), if he stays nice I will talk to them about putting him on the Main Neuter. Ta guys. There will be plenty of babies this year at our speciality. I already know of 5 and Lisa will have one or two from her litter as well. You will have lots of company! Cheers Gaela YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!! That is very exciting ;) Might be a baby record??
  13. Aww she's so clever!! Nessa would probably either run away from them, bark at them or try to play with them Can you please pm me with the details, too?? Mum would be interested in going if we're free that day.
  14. If you can keep her inside & mentally stimulated without having to leave the house for the period of her season, I would at least wait until she has one, preferably 2 seasons. As others have said, it gives her time to mature. Honestly, keeping an entire bitch is not that difficult (especially if you live in suburbia and can keep the bitch indoors). I have NEVER had dogs "knocking down my door" or fences to get at my girls when they are in season??? All we do is keep them inside 99% of the time, taking them out to the yard on lead or under strict supervision (but always on lead when they are 'standing'), and crate them inside when we have to go out I will be including a copy of the PDF that Steve linked to in my puppy pack in the hope that my buyers will fully discuss the pros & cons of the operation with their vet and make an informed decision (and suggesting they wait until after the first season for bitches and until the growth plates have closed on dogs). I also am offering a rebate if they choose to desex, but it will not be given if the pup is desexed prior to 6 months of age.
  15. Hugs to your gorgeous big boy Hoping it's nothing serious (definitely sounds like the fatty lumps our older dogs have gotten in the past).
  16. My girl got very fussy for the last 3-4 weeks or so of pregnancy. I was lucky I was home with her so was able to give her many small meals, I found that she would also eat something a few times then get sick of it and I would have to try something else. I found tinned fish (tuna, salmon or sardines), tinned cat food, various Dog rolls/loafs (especially PRIME 100% beef mince), and minced carcasses etc all rotated kept her interested and going. Her babies are now 4.5 weeks old and she is not at all fussy now, so I wouldn't worry about that happening!! In fact, soon as the pups were content and had had a feed and she got her energy back, she wolfed down a bowl of plain kibble LOL.
  17. Weisnjac - Which Border was it please?? ;) And GOOOOOOOOO BRIAN!!!!! What a clever boy he is I agree about the Open shows- really wish there were more. I enter as many as I can. They are so much fun!!

Oh good lord!! It's not uncommon for me to get the quick when cutting my dogs nails (it's a helluva lot easier for everyone involved to just clip clip clip and have one or 2 bleed for a moment with no lasting ill-effects). What a load of crap!! Very scary that it's even under consideration I also know several people in the USA who've grown up huntin' and shootin' and there's nothing wrong with them or the way they interact with society or animals for that matter.
  21. With regard to the retractable lead at the beach- salt water corrodes and will ruin the inside mechanisms of the leash. If any sand or water got on the strap, the lead will be weakened IMO if you're going to use a retractable lead, you should teach the dog a forward or pull command (I don't use these leads personally, preferring horse lunge lines, but my dog has been taught to walk out and put slight tension on the lead... this is not IMO wrong, pulling can be a useful command (okay, more for fun with our dogs but look at sledding dogs, hauling dogs, those who compete in weight-pull etc. They are all taught when and how to pull ).
  22. I cant remember which one,it is the same weekend as the canberra royal Yay maybe its the Bendigo show......see it does pay to stay local BB ;) ;) I will be the wierd stalker lady looking for Bloodhound babies now ;) But we will have extra White Sheppie cuddles. ;) Never know, it could be Berwick ;) :D We have a winner Berwick it is Well, I'm not going (poo!!) but I will tell mum to keep an eye out
