  1. COngrats!!! What a great way to title
  2. Thank you, everyone :D I guess I wouldn't bother showing if I didn't think there was any chance of winning but I truly wasn't expecting such a result when I got up on Saturday morning lol. Actually, I've been so focused on baby Casey lately, and she has been doing so well that I was going in to win Baby in Show ;) To win our class of 3 was great, to win challenge even BETTER (then reserve went to Z's younger half-sister which was lovely )but to win BEST IN SHOW was just, wow. NO WORDS to describe it. As a bitch, history shows there's less chance of being awarded the top honour, and Ziva herself, although a very nicely put-together bitch, is not flashy nor does she command attention. She showed herself off to her maximum potential, putting everything she had into her movement and really driving herself forward around the ring - all on a lose lead (she is difficult to show, there are times when I have to almost drag her around the ring if she's in a 'mood' ;) ). It was so nice to have so many people there, many who have been there for me since I started with Caber back in 2004. Although her breeders, Sue & Ron of Glenbogle have exhibited a BISS winner, Ziva is the first one they have bred, and she is a granddaughter of 2 BISS winning dogs (one being a multi BISS & multi RUBISS winner). The owners of Ziva's sire (Ch Breckonside Bens Boy) and of the latter grandsire mentioned above, were also there and I was just so proud that I could take Ziva to that level for them. It was quite an emotional day in our camp ;) Apparently Ziva is the very image of her grandsire, who is now deceased, and I am just so LUCKY to have this girl. Casey was awarded 1st baby puppy bitch (out of 3) and Opposite baby in show, so also very proud of the 'next generation'. Overall, a great but exhausting and emotional day!! But one I wont forget any time soon ;) Best in Show :D The picture frame the judge is holding up? Is the gorgeous new perpetual trophy, which is still in it's bubble wrap atm because I need to find somewhere safe to display it Opposite Baby in Show Caber & Ziva in Brace class Thank you, fifi as one of the breeders/exhibitors I look upto and aspire to be like, this means alot. One day we will make the trek up so the little scruffers can meet the big scruffers ;) Are you now Ziva's cheer squad too? LOL. Thanks, Megan was lovely to see you on Sat, although briefly!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL youe such a dag!!! Thank you Thank you SO MUCH everyone ) I really mean it :)
  3. Writing this in the car on the way home lol so forgive any spelling mistakes Today at the Border Terrier Club of Victoria's Championship Show, Ziva (Ch Glenbogle Magic Moments) was awarded 1st Open Bitch, Bitch Challenge and to top it off: BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW!!! The judge was Mrs Julie Clark of Lester Border Terriers in New Zealand. I think Ziva is sick of her daughter, Casey getting all the glory and decided it was time for her to step up Casey herself was awarded 1st baby puppy bitch & opposite baby in show Will post full results later but RUBISS went to Gaela's boy Ch Bohunt Pillow Fight
  4. A smooth cannot be born via 2 rough parents, however a rough can be born to 2 smooths. A smooth/rough mating can produce anything. Different countries have different regulations about te interbreeding, registration of puppies (some countres require rough pups from smooth-smooth to be registered as smooths), and also on importation of pups born from smooth/rough matings. Here in Australia we can interbreed & register each puppy based on it's coat type. my mistake (typo) meant it the other way....this is what I get when trying to type a thought after not a lot of sleep! sorry! lol no worries- I was actually a little surprised that you would have said that hehe. I always believes them to be 2 separate breeds an was quite surprised to find they were interbred here Lyndsay- have they altered the Aussie standard yet?? I wonder what an international judge issupposed to do if the standard is not altered here?? I guess it's then not their fault if they disregard a tailed animal if they are unsure what the correct tail should be (if that makes sense!!). Was actually browsing the ANKC site looking for something unrelated but came across a section on judging and it advised standards to be available in thering and the judge to be encouraged to refer to them if required.

  6. Argh! yes! Buying a new suit and getting to the show and realizing it has no pockets is not fun. Getting to the show and realizing you left the bait at home is second, especially if you are last group on and everyone around you is out of bait. Buying a new suit and leaving the jacket at home is pretty bad, especisally when you're just wearing a cotton shirt and it's at Geelong at the end of May!!! Brr.
  7. only a handful of countries allow interbreeding of the two breeds and the Majority of countries have separate standards for both breeds. The breeds were also developed from stock used for different purposes (rough as a sheepdog and the smooth as a cattle drover) and THEN interbred. Compare the two breed standards we have here on Australia and you will notice the differences, the entenddd standard (combining both standards and pointing out the aimilarities and distinct differences is very interesting). IMO a smooth should never look like a shaved Rough. At least not here in Australia. With Borders, one major contradiction between standards is the tail- one standard is "set on high but never over the back" the other is "tail not set on too high", now as is the case for most dogs, tailset can have a huge impact on the entire outline of the animal and I would imagine if you were used to seeing perhaps tails set level with the back and you are presented with dogs with highset tails, you might be a little lost. Wouldn't it be nice if we all had the same standards worldwide lol.
  8. I find it interesting with the smooth Collie as in the USA the Rough and Smooth have an identical standard, with the only difference being coat. However here the standards have some significant differences (major ones being temperament & ear size). With Nessa being very European in type, there is little point in entering under a US/CANADIAN judge IMO. The sizes are also different in the US standard to ours. While I believe color is relatively unimportant in the scheme of things (although I also understand perception of a dog because of it's color or markings certainly has an impact), I also understand that when there are significant physical differences between standards (ears, size, tails (I believe some standards still only state must be docked??) etc it would be difficult for a judge not to be drawn to the dog that physically resembles the majority that they have seen/spent the last decade or more judging etc. In Borders for eg here we allow a level bite and flesh colored nose however in the US bite must be scissor and nose black... So one would hope that if the best dog here on the day had a level bite or flesh nose it would not be penalized for it. I have often wondered what international judges think of a breed like Tenterfields tho as I'm not sure of they have been accepted anywhere else in the World? Likewise Jack Russells with the Parson being accepted in more places than the JRT. Basically, if it's a show I enjoy or consider important (royal, Sunbury, specialty etc) I'll enter regardless of the judge. Because you never know what they are going to do- a good judge will spot a good dog regardless of where they are from. If they are unsure about the color, they can check the standard. At the end of the day, the good dogs stand out to everyone
  9. I will have my baby in the Open show and all 3 on Monday. Taking Sunday off
  10. You must be President of Casey's cheer squad LOL. Thanks, guys!! Was a great day, her 2nd baby in show award Not bad for a little brown dog!!There is certainly something special about my girl Reserve Bitch/RUBOB - Craigend Elsinore Thats ok - I'm just living vicariously through you and Casey.... Your fringies will come soon enough just need to get the breed out there for consideration to the judges. Many judges still wont look at a Border for group, let alone show but they are becoming more known (and dare I say the overall quality has improved?) and recognised as they should be. Lappies are still new and scary :)

  12. Was just thinking about this thread the other day, and about how much has happened since I posted this photo. 'Pink girl' is, indeed, the little pup I kept, registered as Straitup Raise Thebar aka 'Casey', and she is now 19 and a half weeks old and has exceeded my expectations by winning Baby in Show not once, but TWICE in only 7 outings, both times with different group/specials judges. So I certainly can't complain I guess now my goals for this year are for continued success at group/show level and also to pick up some nice challenges when the time comes but for now, I'm just enjoying her and enjoying the baby class - not in any hurry for her to grow up!!
  13. I chose not to light a fancy or pretty candle this evening. Instead, I lit the candle that was given to me on the day that my girl Miss Timothy crossed Rainbow Bridge. It has not been used until this evening but I felt it was the right time to do so. Run free at the Bridge furkids gone, come home TBCSITW and GET BETTER JED!!
  14. Almost time - tv is off, glass full and match ready to strike
  15. I found out about this during my lunchbreak at work and still haven't been able to completely comprehend what has happened. Like many others, I am so very fond of Jed - she is truly an inspiration in the Dog World, so strong willed and opinionated but never nasty or holier-than-thou. Her opinions and knowledge come through in a clear & entertaining way, something that so few people lack, especially on the internet. I don't know what else to say, the tears keep stopping and starting. Please, Jed, stay strong because we damn well need you on our team!! And your surviving animals need their humum, especially TBCSITW. We here (human & furred) are all sending you healing thoughts and vibes, get well soon xoxoxo <3 <3 <3 (by the way, that's an order, not a request) RIP to the critters now at The 'Bridge, run free I will donate something to the PACERS when my pay goes through, hopefully tomorrow morning.
  16. It is. At an open show you are still eligible for BIG, RUBIG, BIS & RUBIS. Also you enter an Open show knowing that you will not be bringing any points home.
  17. It may be one show a year but think about the all breed club that is missing out on the entries?? 10 dogs could garner more than $100 in entry fees, plus catalogues etc. I am another who thinks the nationals should be within state boundaries- not a specific distance. My breed doesn't even have a national so I'm not likely to be faced with this problem any time soon, although I did travel to Sydney with mum and her collie last year for their national (actually regretting not having entered my own dogs in the all breed show at the same venue that weekend as we had to bring them All with us). I don't see bans on cc's having any effect on entry numbers at a natinal show- ppl wanting to go will go, others should be allowed to support their local club for eg. If someone feels the need to avoid other dogs to gain points, who else does that effect??? The real losers I see here are the all breed clubs who are losing money, not the national shows!! Another eg: say I lived in Mildura, my breed specialty is on at KCC park the same day as my local Kennel Clubs annual show. I have been under the specialty Judge before, and they did not appreciate the style of dog I have, why would I waste half a day in travel, petrol money, loss of income due to travel time, boarding fees for my other dogs etc to make the trek down??? On the other hand, why would I enter my local show knowing I was not going to be eligible for any major awards?? I do really think the no cc rules for both state and national specialties are ridiculous.
  18. What about the Tassie Dane people? Do they have to deal with showing flat dogs because they have spent 12 hours on a boat then a long car ride to the showgrounds? My mum has a Great Dane, she has had them for 20 years... they would have loved to have gone to the royals on the mainland or a specialty show but the logistics of it just proved impossible. I have taken my Danes to Tassie to show, you don't show the day you arrive on the boat as the time you arrive does not allow you enough time to get to the grounds, same for Melb. Actually, it can be done, I know ppl who have literally gone from the ferry to a show Also, with regard to flying, it also has an additional cost of car hire and how do you transport dogs in a hire car?? I wouldn't think that would be allowed?? Not everyone has friends who are able to act as driver for the period either due to their own location or lack of room in their car or trailer. Yeah, if you need your car go via the ferry but what if you do not havean approved trailer or trailer at all??? Dsspite the huge distances and amount of time it takes, the fact is that everyone else in Australia DOES have the option of getting in a vehicle and travelling at their discretion. As for the Victorian tolls, please, they are easy to avoid if you leave a little earlier, they sure are convenient but no one is forced to use them, it's a choice. We use the tolls because we prefer that extra 20 minute sleep in but we have avoided them on occasion to due to not having the e-tag topped up,, in the early days we avoided them on princple, tunnel closure etc.
  19. Casey & her 'winnings' Gaiting in General Specials, she really powers out, I have to keep up with her lmao. ETA Casey is the 'pink' puppy from my litter, and the one with Ziva in my avatar
  20. Thanks so much, Terri We are still on Cloud 9!!! Baby in Group was amazing enough but when the General Specials judge announced he would have the Terrier as his Baby in Show, I didn't believe it, thinking surely he had said 'retriever' or something... but no, it was my little girl that he was pointing to   I love this little dog so much, as soon as she was born there was *something* about her, and as she grew up, she and I had the closest bond out of all the pups in the litter so it was a relief when she continued to develop so nicely!! Her personality is just the best, both for at home and the show ring - confident but not bossy, attentive (as opposed to her mother who couldn't care less about what *I* want lmao) but not clingy... she moves like a dream with just enough baby attitude at the moment to make an impact. She's cheeky, but not a lunatic Whatever happens in the future, yesterday's show will forever remain one of the most amazing. My first homebred puppy, my first In Show award... all I can say is 'awesome' and wander around with a silly grin on my face
  21. Wow, I've been showing for just over 5 years and still keep every class ribbon I receive if it is a large class, or a particularly special show to me or the beginning of a baby puppy's career etc I make a point of ensuring I go home with that fabric memento. I don't go chasing after them n most cases if we're the only one in the class etc, but if they are handed to me, I cherish them. Of course the fringies are what we strive for, along with the 'point' cards but SOME of us DO like that tangible memory. I have some Reserve Challenges for Caber- including the first one he received as well as some he was awarded by international or specialist judges etc. So what they don't carry any points- they look pretty in the folder and they mark the date & show etc. However a few times I have requested one, and received one but had to fill it in myself which was a little disappointing. It's almost like the secs are mocking you for being excited over "only a reserve challenge". When Ziva won Reserve CC at the Melbourne Royal from the Junior class, I had to specially request a certificate (for such a big show, you'd think they'd have one???) and it took lots of running around to finally have one printed up and sent out. It does, however, sit in pride of place in the living room and I smile whenever I remember the judge pulling her out of the line... no, I don't *need* it to rememebr the event but you know what?? It's nice!! We put in a lot of time & effort, not to mention money, into showing our dogs... I think we are entitled to a little memento of these big events! Also, Congrats LizT on your Reserve!!! What a fantastic result in your breed
  22. I so never get time for foruming anymore but YES!!! Today, my little homebred girl 'Straitup Raise Thebar' aka Casey took out best Baby Puppy in Group 2..... and THEN, in a gorgeous line-up of super cuties, she took out BABY IN SHOW!!! I did cry a little She is just amazing, I love her so, so much and for it to be recognized not only by 1 judge but 2 is wonderful and I'm still on cloud 9 I've been showing for just over 5 years, and although Ziva has done well at Group level, we have never achieved an 'In Show' award... so for it to happen with my special little pup, well, it's hard to find the right words!!! She only turned 3 months on April 20th
  23. Having a Collie, we don't even buy horse wormers that contain any mectins, althouygh the horse & dog rarely have contact, we don't want any risk of the dog finding the empty tube in the bin or left in the car etc. Not worth it I was also disappointed and shocked to find that products like Heartgard don't carry any warnings about using it on collie's and related breeds. Scary.
