  1. We use an OzTrail compact (2.4 x 2.4) and it does us (usually have a trolley, 2 chairs, a 48 x 48 inch secura-pen plus all the other crap lol), though it's not the sturdiest but we've used it in some pretty bad weather and it's been okay we got it because it fit in the car!! Howevr now we have the trailer, we can go for a bigger one- thinking about the OzTrail Deluxe but also considering just getting a 2nd Compact and joining them if we need too... they are so light & easy to use!
  2. My understanding is that the full range of neuter classes may be offered and thus exhibits eligible for the neuter points but I would be very surprised if the classes other that 18 & 18a (open neuter, exhibits 6 months and older) were offered, I don't see the clubs getting that kind of entry requireing so many options, at least not any time soon.
  3. Yes, that's them. BTW, you can order from Petz Central with total confidence. They are a young Tasmanian couple (Michael and Erenie) who show an Amstaff. He is confined to a wheelchair as a result of an accident and Erenie pushes him around the ring so that he can handle his bitch Gia himself. She recently won the last points for her title! Oh cool It always puts a smile on my face to see people going against the odds and showing their own dogs when it would probably be easier just to get a handler!! :D Just checked out shipping too and it's only $12 have bookmarked and will place my order tomorrow when I get paid, thank you!!! You're welcome! Their doggy treats are excellent too and they cook a lot of them themselves with Gia as chief taste tester! BTW if you are after anything specific that isn't in their range, they get it for you at the best rates that they can! I can't believe that including shipping to Melbourne it's going to cost me $160!!! Of course, I haven't added anything else *yet* LOL, but still, I'm impressed Will check out the treats!! With the 3 dogs now I really have to be organised in my grooming LOL. Anything else you think I might *need*?? Want the grooming frame but it says it's 1m long, which is too big for the Terrier table will have to settle for the arm. ETA: thanks, PF have thought about getting a larger one (as I intend to have at least one larger dog in the future), but I need a nice tall one for the BTs so will just get a second when I have said larger dog
  4. Quite a few show people use Bonnie When I had my Newfoundland & Dobe, (and 2 smaller breeds), we would buy the 15kg Eagle Pack plus the 20kg Bonnie and mix it up, if it was an especially bad month finance-wise, the dogs just had the Bonnie on it's own with no complaints. I wouldn't feed Science diet unless I had no choice (although have used it as treats/mixed it with other kibble when we've won bags of it)

  7. http://www.petzcentral.com.au/products/Lib...ing-Tables.html Like this, Ellz??? That price seems cheap to me LOL. (Not that I'm going to order from this site- have never seen it before! But googled Liberty to get an idea of the price and this was the first site that came up that actually worked lol). Well, not cheap but definitely in my price range
  8. Because it is EASIER to just get rid of the nasty bitey doggies than sit there and think about an actual solution to the problem It's what the public want. All the public sees is that these nasty, vicious pit bulls are being killed which is a good thing so they can't hurt the little children or elderly grandmothers. :D Have stayed quiet in this thread (have not had much time until now), but have sent emails off to various MPs and received generic responses. Don't even own a scary breed at present, but was thinking that if the smooth collie lunged at someone in her happy, I love you, you're my new bestest friend!!! way, it could be seen as aggression. Likewise, being a stock guard, they are smart and intuitive and if she didn't like someone (especially if she escaped and had to be caught, therefore possibly stressed), I've no doubt she would growl and being a big (ish) dog, of an unfamiliar breed, again, the wrong ranger could easily decide to put her to sleep. Aside from that, the fact that there is anything less than a week for a dog to be claimed by it's owners is disgusting. I am a little confused by the proposed bill, but it is my understanding that there doesn't even need to be any proof or evidence that the dog is nasty or aggressive, so in theory, the dog neednt even be of a restricted breed or 'type' but the ranger could just not like that breed or type of dog and order it destroyed??? Correct me if I'm wrong...
  9. My Border Terriers LOVE to play with other Borders They understand the language Nessa the smooth Collie loves playing with GSDs and anything her size or larger (Ridgebacks, Brittanys etc).
  10. Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone can give me some advise on what to look for/where to look when buying a grooming table for my terriers??? I would prefer something portable/foldable but at the same time- I want to to be sturdy and of good quality. Also not too pricey if that's possible I am sick of dragging my trolley out every time I need to groom the dogs lol. Plus I don't have a grooming arm as yet and really, 2 arms just aren't enough all the time!!! So was hoping to get a 'package' of sorts Are there any good places online which have what I'm after? After seeing the 'quality' (or lack thereof ) of some trolleys etc purchased online, I'm a little wary but if someone had one that they are happy with etc, then I'll be happy too :D Alternatively, if anyone has a second hand one they would like to sell, let me know (I have seen the ones that K9 antics sell and they seem okay, but didn't get a chance to ask price and don't have any shows for a month am hoping to get something within the next few weeks )
  11. that's my thoughts too SP . How can we get an article submitted? Can a member simply write to dogsvic and get it published?! Maybe it's something to look into (haha - I'm happy to do something like that and take some ideas from people on here and collaborate it all)??? Could try a letter..... I'm happy to help out with ideas etc. I think too there is still some confusion about the class- my understanding is it's the same class number as the 'old' neuter class (which was for dogs 6 months or older), and of course attracted no points, so people looking through the schedules are going to see the number and well, either enter or not without a second thought most likely. Plus the confusion about what register neuters need to be on (many people (that i have spoken to) still don't seem to realise that the dog has to be on Main as a neuter). I am also happy to donate sashes etc. Has anyone got a club show coming up (any breed or all breeds etc) that they would like a few sashes donated to?? Have looked up the prices on a few websites regarding sashes (wanting to get some made up for this year's Royal as benching signs) and really they aren't that expensive and you need a maximum of 8 per show, plus the 8 certificates, I know clubs have other expenses etc but if you don't offer the class, people can't enter I reckon about $50 would easily cover the costs for one all breeds show??
  12. yep, Ziva was the same with the syringe!!! She wouldn't drink for a few hours after birth and I was getting worried (It was very hot!), so I syringed a little into her mouth... she got all excited when she saw the syringe but gave me THE most disgusted look when she found out it was just WATER :D
  13. There hasn't been any real advertising of this new class that I have seen, apart from being mentioned once in the black and white section of the DOGS Vic magazine. IMO they need to do a few colour pages, maybe an article or two on the benefits of exhibiting neuters? Don't think anything has been sent out to club secs, either.
  14. I was advised to give a syringe-full (a ml I think..) of liquid calcium (sandoz) to my bitch between pups by my bitch's breeder, and this was also backed up by my repro vet, so I did, and whether it helped or not, the entire process was smooth and easy from start to finish (my bitch also a maiden). It certainly did no harm to her or the pups and she loved the taste
  15. Bugger. Was looking forward to the Hungarian ;) Spain is the wrong part of the world for us LOL.
  16. A dog that you love best/have a special incomparable bond with. I agree with the second part, but disagree with the description that you love that dog the best. I can say, without a doubt, that I love and have loved all my dogs equally but Spike is the one whom I had the incomparable bond wit (I actually believe I still have that bond, because he is no longer physically here does not mean spiritually he is also gone). My opinion, and my opinion only, is that if you have to *think* about who your heart dog is or could be- then the answer is easy- you don't have one yet ;)
  17. This is exactly how I feel about Spike and losing him.
  18. My heart dog is waiting for me on the other side of Rainbow Bridge. Every dog I've ever owned, currently own or will own is special in their own way and bring something unique to my life but there is one dog that owns my heart and will forever.
  19. If I hadn't prog. tested my bitch, we probably would have missed mating her. Had her blood taken on day 9 - she wasn't ready, went back on day 12 and the result showed she would likely be ready in 2 days time (day 14). So that Friday, we took her to the stud dog (I was a bit dubious as she had no signs of flagging to my own male, nor did she react when we touched her croup etc), within 15 minutes they were tied! This was also the stud's first time (although my bitch had been mated unsuccessfully the previous season). Left her there for the weekend and they had a total of 5 matings. The stud dog was a family pet and in this circumstance it was very helpful to have that 2 days notice to arrange everything. The due date was exactly as predicted using the progesterone test results. So I had a very worthwhile experience with progesterone testing and will do it again. I understand why people don't bother but for me, that $200 or so dollars I spent made planning both the mating and whelping that much easier and IMO well worth it
  20. Send the puppy back to the breeder, request full refund (or puppy at a later date if that's what you want)... Ditto to this. IMO the puppy should not have been sold to you with the breeder knowing of any issues. The breeder should have advised you and sought vet treatment before letting the puppy go. You have every right to have a healthy, happy puppy and a happy puppy experience. I feel for you but there are many MANY excellent breeders around who will do the right thing by you in providing a sound puppy. Of course, there are NEVER any guarantees but this puppy was sold with an issue pre-existing and that is WRONG.
  21. I found it best to wash it by itself the first few times, then when dry (takes about 10 minutes lol) use my hand to 'scrape' off the fluff. After a few washes I found the fluff stops and it's fine to wash with other bedding
  22. A Newfoundland stole my heart, and the breed will forever be my number one love, but I do not know if I'll ever be able to have another after losing my boy. I fell in love with the breed for so many reasons - everything about them is perfection of the canine race- their size, their fur, their eyes, their drool, their stubborn-ness, their sense of humor, their utter devotion, their love. The way they roll when they move, the way they bound along, their huge but soft paws... their smell. Their loyalty and courage. Just everything about them. However, I am now devoted to the Border Terrier breed, which I absolutely ADORE but alas, they will only ever be second I chose this breed because I wanted something small to do agility & flyball with (Newfy and an ageing Dobermann not being suitable!), but I always wanted something I liked the look of, that would get along with other animals, easy to look after but with a bit of grooming to keep me busy. I first met a breeder and their dogs at the Royal Melbourne show in 2002 and picked up a business card. 2 years later in 2004 when I was actively looking for my next dog, I found their business card and contacted them. They had a bitch in whelp at the time and the sire was the dog I had met & fallen in love with 2 years earlier! So I put my name down and about 4 weeks later, little Caber was born He's a lunatic but I LOVE him. Dog sports went out the window as I got hooked on showing, he was never the best showdog but he has taught me so very much and I have loved every minute spent with him in the ring!!! Well, almost every minute Then, in May of 2007, they had another litter, a repeat of a mating that produced a bitch I really liked, so I naturally asked if I could have a bitch enter Ziva. Ziva was a much better showdog than Caber, titling before him and earning many 'fringies' and was generally quite successful. Eventually I took and passed my breeders exam, registered my prefix and then in January of this year, my first litter was born :D from that litter, I kept a bitch- Casey, and she has so far exceeded my expectations!!! I can't wait to see where we go next So that's my story in a nutshell- Loved the look & sound of the breed, owned one and found him perfect for me, got my bitch who is totally different, yet similar and bred my first litter. I know people who love the look of a breed, get one and love it but decide maybe it's not the right breed for them afterall and so try something different. Which is okay!! But I have been lucky and I am 100% devoted to having this breed for the rest of my life. Although I have a few "one day" breeds on my list The main one being the Hungarian Wire Haired Vizsla which I hope to own within the next 2-3 years (always liked the Vizslas, but when I met my first wirey it was obviously I have a thing for scruffy dogs but the personality is great, and as much as I adore the Borders, the idea of something that is just in love with you is also apealing as is a dog that is not going to be at all defensive or aggressive to other animals (Borders are generally pretty good, but are still terriers at heart and will not back down if challenged etc. So I want something a little more easy-going with other dogs for a change And something that can be trusted off-leash too!!!)
  23. Our specialty always has a neuter class, but it's really just a sweepstake (and in our show, it's usually judged by the aspiring judge, not the champ show judge). We usually get about 3-4 entries.
  24. I wish I had a neutered dog LOL.
  25. I agree that size can be what makes up your mind about pulling. I don't like my big dog pulling coz he weighs about 36 kgs and is solid muscle and very stong. But our little dog pulls too and she only weighs 5 kgs so it's not a problem - in fact you can barely tell she is pulling lol. Mind you, you only have to give a very light pressure on the lead and she feels it in her harness and immediately stops pulling My little dog is incredibly strong for her size, people here can attest to that fact LOL. She's a quiet, wee thing but when she makes up her mind to go... she goes :D Her mother is exactly the same, mind. As is her sister and half sister. My male, who is her uncle, is the total opposite and has NEVER been a puller, he'll go to the end of the lead when allowed but that's it. Her own daughter pulls when walked with her mum, so I try and walk her with my boy instead My first dog, a pound Dobe x, was a big puller- not an ideal dog for an 11 year old girl ;) but we got through it. Used a Halti much of the time (no, I wouldn't let my 11 year old daughter walk any dog, let along a dog that size/strength but anyway. Another subject ;) ), but then switched to a martingale (chain/nylon combo) before finally settling ona ROGZ limited slip collar, as she got older, too she mellowed out and eventually never pulled anymore, but honestly, I don't remember or know the exact method that worked, actually, it's more like a lightbulb suddenly went off in her head and she grew up. She was about 6 when she finally stopped digging up the garden and pulling on the lead etc. I don't like dogs who pull on the leash, I feel it is rude and inappropriate (except when trained to do so such as in weight pull or for muscle building etc), but I have had to adjust with my girl and have come to terms with the fact that she pulls like a steam train and it's who she is ;) it is just fortunate that she is small and otherwise responsive (stops when I tell her to, leaves whatever she is sniffing, even bones or food left on the footpath, doesn't rush people or animals etc).
