  1. right up until a visitor not paying attention/not dog savvy meets a dog with no manners around food and gets a finger or two accidentely nipped....
  2. yeah... they do have certain gifts in that area *looking at Loki who could scale 6 foot fences, no problem.* but the cat wouldn't have been a problem. Cats put shiba puppies in their place very quickly :D I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I know that very feeling, I took one of my dogs to the vet and was told he wouldn't last the day. (stupid Lymphoma )
  3. karen15, a shiba inu would also have fit those requirements :D
  4. Oh Dear God... now I'm getting flashbacks to that Off topic Pimple popping thread....
  5. Aww! So many lovely dogs! I just have my old man. Loki is 14 and showing every year of his age now Lost my Wylie two years ago,and Loki seems to have aged so much in that time. I suspect this will be my last year with the old guy. (bonus chair War photo :D ) One of my silly boxhead Wylie because he was such a beautiful happy boy. All I can say is, take more photos! Thousands of photos. It will be all you have one day.
  6. This is like one of those optical puzzles... How many dogs in the bed?
  7. Whoops! I should have mentioned I don't consider Dol peeps when I said I mentally judge people. I mean the randoms I meet who want a French Bulldog " because they are so cuuute!" while knowing nothing about the breed.
  8. Because they are small, quirky looking and people want the next "in thing" I cringe inside whenever someone tells me they want a French Bull Dog. ( I mentally judge them, I'm embarrassed to say )
  9. No, there probably wouldn't be, this is the real world, not Game of Thrones.
  10. Crows and Ravens are a lot smaller than eagles... How much does a (weaned)chihuahua puppy weigh? Most the corvids in Aus weigh around half a kilo.. They don't even have talons or a hooked beak to help them hold on to prey. The puppy would have been dropped close by. My news feed is all agog about some kangaroo joey adopted by Police in WA being picked up by a Wedge Tailed Eagle but it was dropped pretty quickly as well.....
  11. Probably their numbers are recovering. A few years back there was a huge die off because of a virus.
  12. If it helps, they are just as introduced as the starlings and blackbirds and are building up to plague numbers down here.....
  13. Yeah... but I don't hang around my dogs with open wounds... Although I have Shibas and they aren't lickers so that probably helps. Gross off topic, Loki can hunt down a festering toenail from miles away. There is an old homeless? guy who wanders about my area. He wears thongs and his toenails are overgrown and a festy green/yellow. Loki is in love with his feet, so much so that I won't let him within metres of the guy..
  14. I'm kinda grossed out that people willingly let their dogs lick their wounds...
  15. Maybe, just maybe... a result of more reporting of dog issues/attacks and more social media exposure today... more people today will be dog savvy? If things are reported more, maybe that includes good ownership as well? I can dream....
  16. Dog fighting used to be a very big issue, that's why some breeds were created in the first place. However, that was many years ago and nothing to do with this thread.
  17. I don't think it's a lax attitude, no one here wants dogs roaming and biting at will. I was just commenting that it is more likely that more attacks are reported now days rather than there being a rise in attacks.
  18. Loki is usually pretty good about letting me know if he has to go. He chucks a tanty if he can't get out to pee. But the other morning after I let him out I saw(smelt) that he peed in his bed. Not cocked his leg and marked, just a wet spot on his blankie. He has never peed where he sleeps.
  19. I got nabbed by a Cattle dog in the 80s. I was walking home from school and it jumped the "fence" and bit my leg. I had bleeding punctures on my calf. My mum didn't care, just told me to wash it and chuck some mercurochrome on it. It was just a hazard of growing up. Not saying it was a good thing, but back then, that's what people did. I think people report things more because social media lets them have "their moment"
  20. No, It's just my critters are mad. Cat on the left is Flansburgh (Flansy) He is a pretty awesome bundle of fuzz :D Both my cats ae British Shorthairs :D
  21. Yet nobody questions why the dog is sleeping on a suitcase....
  22. That really doesn't sound like a breeder Id be buying show/breeding potential dogs off Do you mean the vet checked her?
  23. Don't forget Lapphunds. For a while it was like every second dog suggested was a Lappie. "I'm after a small, short haired house dog.... "get a Lapphund!"
