What is a "Fair" Price for a Puppy?
cannibalgoldfish replied to Psycho-Magnet's topic in General Dog Discussion
Remember, prices go up because life costs rise as well. A dog that cost $1000 ten years ago may cost $3000 now, food, electricity and rent has gone up as well. -
What is the Purpose of the Limited Register?
cannibalgoldfish replied to YOLO's topic in General Dog Discussion
Coneye, I got this constantly, all the time. However my boy had several faults and was genuinely sold on Limited Register because of that. (Too tall, girly face in a breed with distinctive sexual characteristics, ect ) I once even had a judge at a local dog show tell me I should show him (I was walking past the showgrounds,) but quite simple, Loki was not up to scratch. I knew the breed, I knew my dog. Thing is, the adverage person doesn't always recognise an actual GOOD example of a breed. -
The Cost of Puppies is outrageous
cannibalgoldfish replied to Ann Renders's topic in General Dog Discussion
Everything is more expensive now days, and some things have taken a big leap in the last few years (even before covid) In 2002 I paid $800 for a dog on limited register, eg, pet. (and it was a pretty uncommon breed in Australia at the time.) Two years later I bought another of the same breed on mains papers (eg, show potential) for $1000. Now days to get a pet (limited ) of the same breed it will cost me well over $ 2000. Is it greedy breeders? No. (well not always, ) Back in 2002 when I bought my first boy for $800, I was paying $145 a week in rent. Now here in 2021 I still live in the same suburb, renting the same sort of house (rooms, condition, location, ect) and rent in my area for the same sort of houses is now about $400- $500 a week and climbing every year. To be honest, I'm more worried about affording the rent increases than I am of the puppy prices. Edit.. who knows, maybe some of these breeders need to pay an ever increasing rent too? Dunno about some people, but my wage hasn't increased at the same rate as my rent.. ... -
You could always scatter their ashes at a favourite park or place? If having an urn sitting there is too distressing.

My first thought is no. New pup has enough to deal with just meeting you.

I lost one of my dogs to lymphoma. He showed no signs at all except for a small fleeting wobble in his legs one day. Two days later the glands in his neck swelled up and he passed away at the vets several hours later I'm not really any help, even the vet said he showed next to no signs until the swollen glands At that stage the vet said there was nothing left to do. Get the tests and then decide from there, that's all I can suggest.

Can I ask any Bull Terrier (or specifically Miniature Bull Terriers, in case it makes a difference?) breeders a question on colour? I've been googling and researching breeders looking for red or tri colour dogs and the majority are brindle, and a lot are mostly white as well. I'm looking for breeders with more solid coloured dogs with no or limited white on their faces. Are dogs without a white blaze less desirable, therefore not bred for? I'm just starting my journey and I know nothing about Bull terrier colours (ie, what's "in" ) so I have no idea if the colours I are looking for (red and tri colour) are harder to find because they are rare and hard to breed or just not very popular. Same goes for the lack of white blaze on the face. I would prefer less white on the face mainly because I live in Tasmania and our sun is HARSH. It's a skin cancer state and I want to prevent risks before they start.

New Guinea Singing Dogs found in the wild
cannibalgoldfish replied to sandgrubber's topic in In The News
I'm not surprised! The NG Singing Dog is a primitive Asian breed along with Shiba Inus and Dingos. If you have ever heard a Shiba in full song you can clearly hear the family resemblance. Also, Loki was terrorised for many years by my neighbours cat who would lie in wait then spring out and boop his tail. More proof that cats are really in charge :D -
Boundary fence is being removed
cannibalgoldfish replied to tisamystery's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm no help at all with who to talk to about the fence, But this I understand.. "Basenji = no recall/no road-sense and ageing basenji = going deaf and so can't hear approaching vehicles" Take out the aging, going deaf bit and you still have a breed of dog that NEEDS SECURE FENCING. I'm sure someone will suggest who you need to contact but when you do,, make sure you really push the aging, deaf, no recall part because most people don't get the breed bit but will understand (hopefully)the rest. I haven't had a basenji, I've owned Shiba inus... One was a 16 year old "blind, deaf, senile but still could climb a 6 foot fence if he felt the need.." kinda dog. -
Help me come up with a registered name?
cannibalgoldfish replied to ilchestergoldens's topic in General Dog Discussion
If she gets gas she can be Windy Willow :D -
Not an expert in dog behavior, but if you can't afford a trainer, you in no way can afford the legal fees and fines if your dog actually bites or threatens someone. Doesn't even need to threaten someone in fact , imagine your dog lunging or barking at someone who is elderly and they startle and fall, breaking their hip. Sounds far fetched? It can happen A trainer is cheaper in the long run by far.

Prices go up. 20 years ago I paid $140 a week rent for a 3 bedroom house. Now in the exact same area I'll have to pay between $250-450 for the same. It sucks, but it's life.

Why not get a Lowchen or a bichon? Why a mutt mix?

Trying to find more info about my dog
cannibalgoldfish replied to selvhound's topic in General Dog Discussion
Google the two breeds and what health issues they might have. That's about all the info you will find. -
The price of puppies has gone up. But so has the general cost of living. Or not. When I got my first shiba there was less than 10 breeders in Aus? Loki was $700 limited register then. There are far more breeders now and I'll need to pay well over a thousand, close to two for a shiba on limited now.

Stella is a mix of mixes.

"We need a system that doesn’t discriminate against pet owners" I totally get this, I'm a pet owning renter but I've seen some terrible damage from pets. One of the houses I rented a few years back had a room with massive pee stains on the carpet in one room where the owner kept their dogs locked up. A bloodstain (despite numerous cleaning) from where the owners once had a cat (see the two dogs above and yes, it's what you think ) and despite several carpet cleans, and several bug bombs, a massive flea infestation. Do I blame the pets? no. But I can see how home owners would be wary. I don't know how to solve it? A damage bond is a damage bond, no matter how it occurs? )pet or otherwise) But bogans seem to skip out of paying bond anyway

Weird question, but will you let the old owners visit (even in a park, ect) down the track? I know it can be confusing for pets in this situation but... if they were that old, and had been with their peeps all their life... I mean, maybe a year or so down the track to give them time to settle in.? When I got Loki as a puppy, a year or two later his breeder holidayed in Tas and asked to stop in and say hello. Loki was so happy! Knew her instantly and was very excited. Even though he had lived with me for a year or so , and loved our family he was so happy to say hello to her! But because he hadn't seen her for ages it was good for him, but he didn't fret for her after she left again.

The Strangest Cross Breed You Have Ever Seen?
cannibalgoldfish replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
" forget the breed name" Asal! this whole post needs the name or else it's.... not? it's gonna make my eye twitch. -
Weather was different/colder at that time or place or, like now, pup was born very late in the season.
