It must be horrifying if you are not used to them...a bit like head lice in kids :D Fleas are a way of life on the coast and can normally be controlled with treatments, but I can not get rid of them completely at the moment, and most people at training are complaing of having a problem too. I use Advantix and Capstar, and although I can not see any fleas, the dirts are a tell tale sign. I gave up on Frontline years ago as it seemed to stop working . Raid do a Flea spray which is excellent if you dont like to bomb. We had a particularly bad summer 4 or 5 years ago, and this was the only thing that helped get rid of them completely. No need to wash everything you just spray it all. I think you can even spray the dog/cat but I could never bring myself to do it ;) . I love the stuff and always keep a can in the cupboard just in case. Good luck with getting rid of them........

This is a copy of an email sent by a girl at our local obedience school. Hey Karen this is Lucy I am not sure what breed she is but her mum was a blue cattle x... She has a lovely nature n is good with kids, she just needs alot of time spent with her... She love chasing her toys n likes most other dogs, she needs room to run n alot of attension thanks alot.. From what I understand, Lucy was her sisters dog and due to having a baby, her sister was unable to give her the attention she needs. Lucy is the white and black in the pic and is a litter sister to her carers girl (the blue girl in the back of the pic) and the two girls are not getting along at all. If you know of anyone who is looking for young cattle x , please PM me. I am not sure of her age but will find out tonight. Lucy is desexed and chipped.

Some Update Of My Little Aussie Lottie.....
Karelea Aussies replied to Beth.'s topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Thanks for the compliments. I think she is gorgeous but then I think they all are . Tilly has dilute patches and is on limit register so she will not be shown, but I wanted her for Obed and agility so suited me fine. She is quite small at 17 kg considering she is well covered and one of these days I will get around to measuring her to see if she is as small as I think she is. She is 16 months and just old enough to start agility next week which I am really looking forward to. I am hoping to get some new pics this weekend and put them in the Aussie pics thread. I feel the same way as you, in that I dont think I will ever be without one now and there definitely will be a number 2 when the time is right. Next one will be for show . -

I too have one who will not stand for exam....so knew I had read this somewhere before....just confused with one bit. Can someone please explain to me the relevance of flying the food away from the dog. I get the rest of it just not this part. Am I right in assuming the dog should not be allowed to have this food? many thanks

My foster pup came down with a really bad dose which hit her so hard she ended up with a secondary infection. 2 courses of antibiotics and another bout of fresh kennel cough in between courses Vet said to keep her quarantined for at least 3 weeks after the last cough is heard. She intermittantly coughed for a couple of weeks after that so all up I think it was about 9 weeks of lock down. My guys are vaccinated and never caught it but they had to be in lock down also. Vet said similar for them, 2 weeks after the pups last cough. We are only just starting to take her out of the yard now. Her vet also said that some can shed up to 3 months after.

I have loved them from afar for a long long time. They are a gorgeous looking dog, in a way similar to the Aussie, and some of the info I have read on Aussies suggest that the Aussie is a derivative of the English Shepherd, amongst other dogs. I have never been able to find any sign of them being in Australia, and have done loads and loads of Googling :D but if ever you find one/some, please give me a hoy as I would be most interested. My old boy was a GS x something back and tan, and some of the pics of the English shepherd remind me so much of him . Interesting that both the Australian Shepherd and English Shepherd are American........ ;) . http://www.englishshepherd.org/resources.htm

Cheap Agilty Equipment
Karelea Aussies replied to kat99's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I was also thinking how to stop it rolling. I am going to get some lengths of velcro and make something similar to the snugglers. A velcro strap to go right around with 2 loops (not sure what the loops would be made from) for small stakes to go through. I figure velcro would have to be easier than using webbing and attaching the hadware. I am gussing it would need 3 sets, 1 each end and 1 in the middle? -

Not sure if anyone has seen those laundry hampers that pop open (I use them for camping). The look just like the solid part of the chute and have the sprung wire inside. I was thinking to get one of those from the cheap shops and attach a chute on the end. I would assume Spotlight sells some kind of material similar to that of the actual chutes. similar to this -

Karelea Aussies replied to WildatHeart's topic in General Dog Discussion
My little girl in my sig is supposedly a Malt x Poodle, and she certainly is NO turd....or white. Our local pet shop had one of these menu's in the front window, and when you looked at the sign what you saw behind was the puppies in their glass cages left for the night.....thank heavens they did not last long. -
Aussie Shepherds And Border Collies
Karelea Aussies replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
Pixie, I have been confused before by this blue Merle Border above and thought it was an Aussie. See any difference to my blue merle Aussie below? The do look similar in those two photos, I bet now that they have grown they would look very different from each other apart from the colour. Here she is. Different in the legs, more feathering on the Ausssie? (ignore the colouring on this side as this is the mis mark) She still has a lot of black on her other side) -
I take mine to the local markets. Loads of people of all ages, sex, colour. There are always a few dogs for a bit of a meet and greet and the owners tend clean up if a dog messes, so a fairly clean environment. I tend to go early or late so that there are not too many people otherwise it may be a bit daunting for the pup.
