Dogsvic New Website - Appeared Today
yarracully replied to d_dambe's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just had a quick look myself. I noticed the schedules part is not there. As an interstate exhibitor I used to get all my Vic show schedules from the site. Now I suppose if I can't get the schedules I can't go to the shows in Victoria. Their feedback section returns an error and the magazine section didn't bring up the magazine. Surely these are all areas that should have been tested properly before the site was uploaded. Not rectified after its put up. -
I am of the view that if you pay a stud fee for the dog, you pay for the health of the bitch and you pay for any emergencies arising during whelping that you are the only one that has any right to decide who gets what pup and what register it goes on. As far as I am concerned if they allow you to use thier stud dog, then they must be OK with the bitch you choose to mate. Once the money changes hands they have no further say in it. However if it is a pick of the litter as payment they may get some input into which register the pup they choose goes on. But thats as far as it goes. If someone tried to impose conditions on what I do with what I breed, I begin to doubt their reason for being involved with the breed. I would look for another stud dog before agreeing to such things. There is always an alternative somewhere. Remembering that a good dog will not always through good pups. As Angelsun said the stud dog is only half the equation. But the bitch can play just as big, and in many cases a bigger, part in teh resultant litter.

To be honest I would be inclined to think that whoever imposed such a contract is not breeding to better the breed and is really just arrogant, egotistical and self centred. The breed on the whole would be better off without such people . I wouldn't give up on the chosen breed but I would stay well clear of the breeder that imposed such a ridiculous set of conditions

Have used Alizin. Never told by our vets that it would bring in another season. In fact with ours they did not go back into heat early. However we were told that there are some dogs that the Alizin won't work on. Our vet advised us there is about a 95% success rate with Alizin. Unfortunately one of our bitches the Alizin doesn't work on.

Alternatives To Cheques For Payment Of Entries
yarracully replied to jr_inoz's topic in General Dog Discussion
With everyone saying about Ozentries and Bpay and Paypal there is something else to consider. There are a lot of elderly people in the dog world that simply do not have a computer or even know how to use one. Yet they live for their little dog shows to get out and about. Up until the day he passed away my father simply "Didn't know how to turn a computer on and didn't want too". There are many people that have a phobia and distrust of computers and online transactions. So these people are going to be affected. No doubt in many different areas in society there will be people so disadvantaged. -
Thanks everyone for your advice, i have sent breeder an email telling her i will not take any responsibilty especially for the puppy she bred. If i had accidental mating and didn't want to use that dog because of a fault i know i wouldn't be keeping one puppy. So they asked about compensation but would not provide proof or further contact. They had a litter of pups. They must have sold off any of the other pups from the litter. Unless this pup was a singleton they must have sold off or given away other pups. Are they prepared to be responsible for everything the owners of these pups do. They kept a pup to run on and if that doesnt work out they want you to be responsible. Not bloody likely!!! Thats the same as me buying a car from you, 12 months later I get drunk lose control of my car, hit a tree and then say its your fault. You are NOT resposible for their actions.I'd tell them to grow up and be adults. They have to be responsible for their own actions. You asked for photos so you could assess the problem. If they choose not to provide the photos then there isn't much else you can do. All other actions after that are their own problem.

hi there I had the same problem, I went down to the hardwarestore & got some small D shackles normaly found in the isle with clips & chains. I found them better Murve I think you are thinking of different clips than Mercedes was. I am also after some clips. The ones I am after look like they are made from flat metal and wrap around the wire panel to act as a hinge. I need some for some fence kits I have here. But I have not been able to find any yet.

You can't spell SBT?? I'm alright till I get past the S

I don't know about being offensive. I usually abbreviate the names cause I can't always remember how to spell some of them. Like a chihuaua (you know small dog group 1)

Charitable Vet Sevices In Sa
yarracully replied to Dory the Doted One's topic in General Dog Discussion
We had a dog that required surgery to end her suffering and the specialist vet basically said "She needs this operation immediately (That is to say RIGHT NOW) but we won't do it until x amount of dollars is paid upfront". This was after we had travelled 550 k's to see this particular vet. It turned out to be three and a half thousand dollars. But they were refusing to treat and were prepared to allow the dog to suffer unless we paid up. Result is we paid up and had the operation done. There was never any question in my mind about it. But they were quite prepared to allow the dog to suffer if we didn't pay up. -

Must agree with Stormie here. We used to own a service station and the number of times people would come in and ask if they could pay later was unreal. Especially when at other times you would see the same person go somewhere else to get their fuel when they had money but only come to you to book it up. Also with the small number of accounts we were holding it tended to create a cashflow problem. You had to pay for the goods when they were delivered and then wait for someone to pay their account to get your money back. Often a few months later. Same with the vet. They had to pay for the medications etc. when they get them. They want to get their money back so they can stock up again. This is why many businesses go to the wall. They are selling the goods but not getting the money back until much later and so in the meantime they go broke waiting. When I got out of our service station I had over $100,000 owing to me. One person that owed was even driving around in a brand new BMW which basically I was paying to run. But I couldn't get that money in to pay the bills I had to pay straight away so I was forced to sell up. As stormie said its the few that make it hard for the genuine. I know my vet will allow me to pay up later but then he also knows that I always pay within a week of the emergency. But then I have a good ongoing relationship with my vet. He will even insist on making me a coffee when I go there. But then he always makes me wait until its coffee time before he will look at my animals to. -
When Buying From A Registered Breeder Poll 1
yarracully replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
I dont really care about how flash their web site is or even if they have one. Although I do want to see as many photos of their dogs as I can if I am unable to see them in the flesh. The membership of the breed club bit doesn't worry me that much as I am aware there are breeds that don't have a club. However if there was a breed club I would expect the breeder to carry out any testing as if they were a member. Regarding time frame if I was after a certain parentage from the breeder I don't think a time frame comes into it. -
Problem then becomes that a group decide they dont like some part and then they form their own registry. Opps thats what has already happened. Trouble is that certain groups making new registries all the time simply compound the issue. If we only had the one registry (ANKC) then there would be no need for this discussion. But the forming of various different groups and their registries simply makes the situation where members of the public are confused. And a new registry just started by a certain body only adds fuel to the fire. Our registry was started as a service to our members to enable them to track genetic , health and temperament issues and to ensure that any dogs being placed on that registry had the necessary proofs in place to ensure the genetic data was being collected and recorded. We do not have one breeder member who is not also an ANKC member - our registry isnt an instead of but rather an as well as and there is nothing fuelling any fire except people who want to make it into something it isnt by accusing us of doing the most ridiculous things. A handful of people decided it was one thing and the crap that is spread is taken as what it is. For over 6 years the MDBA has worked to encourage people to join the ANKC and to promote purebred dogs but now because we introduced something which is a tool our members can use which helps to see things in a pedgree which to date hasnt been available we have to be treated like we have committed some crime. The only thing we have done which is any different than hundreds of others have done is that we have done it for all breeds rather than just one. Pick a breed and most of them have a separate registry and they have had for years which records genetic test results and makes them available to their members. If Annie had been talking to someone who was registered with the MDBA then she wouldnt have had a problem because the expectation is what is expected for an ANKC member. The problem has nothing to do with us providing extra data on a pedigree it occurred because she bumped someone who was registered as a breeder with a commercial cross bred registry using the same language she expected only purebred regsitered breeders would use. As far as any registry such as the pet breeders registry is concerned the government is responsible for that because they have given exemptions to the ANKC and the only way any other group could get the same exemptions for their members is to register their dogs. If Annie or anyone else bumps into someone saying they are registered with less requirements on them than an ANKC breeder that has nothing whatever to do with us. Accredited breeder schemes via the ANKC elevate one registered breeder over another and put more requirements on what a breeder has to do to register their puppies and that is seen as O.K. but because we have made it much harder than they have for our members and to be able to register their puppies it's frowned upon. Dogs NSW and Dogs queensland can say that some of their members are better than other members who they still register and who they still register puppies for but when we say our members are better than some other breeders all hell breaks. Some of the breeders who have been given accredited breeder status wouldnt get into the MDBA and their puppies would not be able to be registered on our registry. Across the board everyone has seen what we have done as something great with the exception of a handful of purebred breeders who made a snap decision based on assumption and feed it up to be something it isnt. Councils have been registering breeders and their dogs, issuing permits and the like and so have the the AAPDB for years . Breeders have been saying they are registered when they are not ANKC registered and trying to pin the situation on us as fuelling the fire by introducing ours makes little sense. Firstly Julie I am not going to get into any discussion of what the MDBA does or why. Thats between you and your membership. The fact still remains that if you have a single registry there wouldn't be the confusion but when you have a registry as maintained by the ANKC then another maintained by the Working Dog group and another maintained by the Pet industry and yet another maintained by the MDBA for whatever reason that is where members of the public get confused. They don't understand the reason for these different registries. As such members of the public think they are all the same thing when they are not. That is why there is so much confusion about the term "registered breeder". When a member of the public buys their dog and gets some piece of paper from the AAPDB or whoever they assume it means the same as the papers issude by other organisations. There are even some that conjour up their own registry name and create their own "papers" to go with the dogs they sell. And to Joe Public this means the same as papers issued by ANKC, FCI, MDBA or any other register. The public don't know the difference unless they find out at some point afterwards and then its too late. They then discover that the papers they got for their precious pup don't mean what they thought they did. As for the health matters to which you refer I am quite happy to leave that for my ANKC affiliated breed council to deal with it. And Yes I do realise that not all breeds are so represented. As for the accusations and problems you mentioned I don't know what they are nor do I care, so I cant see the relevance in including that statement when replying to my post. As to the accredited breeder scheme I don't agree with it. The reason I don't agree with it is because who are they to say breeder X is better than I. They have no idea the measures I take with my dogs. They don't know the health testing and profiling I do. It strikes me as simply a money grabbing exercise. Further I didn't try and pin the situation on your body. I simply pointed out that having different registries issuing different papers etc only serves to confuse the public who have no idea of the difference. In regard to councils issuing permits etc. this is usually because they need the money. No amount of different registries or breeder bodies is going to solve that problem ETA: I have even seen some people promote themselves as registered breeders simply based on the fact their dogs were registered with the local council. They simply dont realise the difference

Would have to agree with this to a point. Out of ten dogs we have here all our dogs eat together and pretty well all of them are good about it. But we do have one that came from another breeder and although he doesn't get very aggressive with other dogs he is very protective of his food. He was bought up with our dogs since 8 weeks old but when he eats he literally lays across his bowl and growls while eating. He is the only one that does it and has not been treated any differently than the others. So in his case it may not be genetic (It may be how he was raised before coming to us) but I am reasnoably sure its not from his time here. Must also add he only growls at the other dogs around him. Any adult can still take his food away from him and he will let them. Just protective in regards to other dogs.
-
I also train my dogs so that I can take their food away at any time and they know I will do it. I often do it just to reinforce to them that I can take it if I want too. However I still will not let my 5 yo great nephew near any of my dogs when they are eating, and he knows not to go near them. He won't even go near my 10 week old pups when they are eating for the same reason. He loves to come with me when I get their food ready and helps get things organised but as soon as the food is put down he is outta there. I work on the theory that even though an adult (In the case of my dogs-any adult can take it) may be able to take the dogs food away with out a reaction a child is a different thing as far as a dog is concerned. So while I may trust my dogs not to go me if I touch or remove their food I won't trust ANY dog if a child was to do the same thing. Another thing to consider is, did the child try and take the food (ie by hand by moving the bowl) or did the child put its face to close to the food and this caused the dog to react. We may never know but in my opinion this could make a difference.

I've had three dogs flown from Brisbane to Adelaide on two occasions with no problems. Two were from Rockhampton to Brisbane then on to Adeliade. The third straight from Brisbane. I just got the breeders to put them on at their end and made sure it was a flight where I could be at the airport to pick them up as soon as they landed. Each time they travelled unaccompanied and had no problems at all. Although I usually do it in the cooler months as the cargo section is not air conditioned. The biggest issue we had was trying to get into teh freight section to pick them up. I don't do the "Big busy place" thing to well.

Here We Go Mandatory Desexing For All Pet Puppies.
yarracully replied to Steve's topic in In The News
When an RSPCA inspector can enter your home if you are there or not without a warrant simply because he "believes" something is happening or is "about to" happen. Yet a police officer must have reasonable suspicion and further has to convince a court magistrate to issue a warrant to allow entry. That alone is enough to tell me that the RSPCA inspectors have more power than the Police and yet still no accountability. Even police can not arrest you until you have committed a crime. RSPCA can enter your home and sieze your property simply because they think you might be about to do something in the near future. In regards to who to "kick up about it" that is half of the problem. Who do you kick up to if an inspector enters your home. Regarding lodging a criminal or civil claim against the inspector, how can you if the law under which they enter your premises allows them to do it. They have not broken a law. They actually have permission to enter your home if they believe something is being done or is about to be. How can you prove that what someone believes is wrong? I may believe in Santa Claus. How can you rule that I may be wrong because I choose to believe something. I may beleive that my neighbours are a family of potential homicidal maniacs. I may be right or I may be wrong. But if thats my belief, thats my belief. I can't call the police and have him arrested because of what I beleive. But an RSPCA inspector can believe that you are guilty of an act of cruelty you are going to commit tomorrow and so can enter your house tonight and seize property (Animals and equipment) based on that belief. -

This is power being abused. Blatantly. All based on ALLEGATIONS and not a sniff of cruelty or pain in sight of the cameras. The dog with the short tail might have been docked legally overseas ..... or it could have been born here with a natural bobtail .... or it could have already damaged the tail and had an amputation done (which has happened with a quite a few of the docked breed puppies). Why not call the owner and ask first? Written proof for both of the above short tail scenarios can be provided easily enough in most cases. I didn't see the show mentioned but I hope some of the docked breed owners out there have taken up the matter with their local Member of Parliament. Nobody's home should be broken into like that. Souff Un believeable really isnt it? Considering we havent heard anyone in the poo over it and it was there for everyone to see I think perhaps anyone who owns an animal should take serious steps to secure and protect their property.Though I dont have an idea of how if locking you dog inside your home when you go shopping isnt enough todo that. We should all be aware of the fact that as this can happen this org has more power over anyone who happens to own an animal or be in control of an animal than any other agency in this country. I also saw this show and really the Inspector wasn't acting within the law. The act only allows them to enter if an act of cruelty is occuring (at that particular moment) or is about to occur. In this case the alleged act had already occured sometime earlier. But in reality what can be done? Could the dogs owner take the RSPCA to court for illegal entry? Perhaps but how many individuals could afford to fight an organisation which receives donations to the extent the RSPCA does. In order to take action the owner of the dog would either a) report it to the RSPCA inspectors supervisor (Doubt you would get much satisfaction there) or B) need to report the intrusion to Police, and I very much doubt they would do much with it. So although nothing was done about the matter that we know of doesn't mean it should have occured. Alternatively I doubt very much that the RSPCA would come out later and admit "We should not have done what we did". firstly because it shows a weak side to the organisation and also it could have an impact on their donations they receive. -
Is there any detail yet of the process involved in getting a breeder number? Really if anyone can get the ID number whats going to stop the puppy farmers applying.
-
Is your newer one from vebo as well or from somewhere else? Nah newer one is from somewhere else and we have already had it collapse at Cohuna/Kerang show last year because the car park area was soft sand and the wheels just folded in under it. The newer one is made of really thin wall material. Its almost like tissue paper. The older one the tubing walls would be easy 3 times thicker and the most I have ever done to it is hose it down with a pressure cleaner every two or three shows. Other than that it sits on the front of the trailer ready for the next show. The older one, (don't know if it came from Vebo but looks exactly the same, we bought it through the SACA Dog shop) has never caused a problem. When we first got it we had to pack it in the boot of the car to go away for a four show weekend then a one week holiday prior to a breed specialty. It fitted in no problem. The newer one which is a few inches taller I am not so happy with. I had to make up a rack on the front of the trailer to carry it. Actually now that you have pointed out where I can get them I am seriously thinking of buying another one. Especially at that price. I paid nearly $550.00 for mine. But no doubt thats with the dog shop putting their bit on it at the time. I am more than happy with mine. When I first got it I put some small strips of Aluminium on it to hold water bowls and cooling fans. My 5 year old great nephew also likes it. He thinks its great fun getting in with the dogs at shows or sitting on top while we go around to the rings to show. With the older one I don't mind him riding on top of it. But the newer one I won't let him as its just not strong enough. If I go to a show with only four or five dogs I use the older trolley every time. The newer one only gets used when I have more dogs to show.
-
I got one. A four berth. Had it for about six years and very happy with it. We also have another trolley (about 4 year old) but its no where near as strong as the older one. We usually load all our dogs in one and all our gear in the older one to get to the rings and its been great. Would not hesitate to get another one. Only issue is mine doesn't have a bracket for an umbrella on it.
-
What rule is this? the only shows I know of which limit dogs allowed is Royal shows. At a royal the only dogs allowed are those entered. But I have not heard of any other shows being limited in this regard.
-
Not in NSW/ACT and I haven't seen it at shows I've attended in Vic, NT and WA. Good grief. Has even been known to get a bit violent because someone took "The Spot". At one large weekend event one person had to be taken to Hospital for stitches after they were struck in the leg by an umbrella stake. All because the other person thought they owned "the spot". Personally I believe in first in first served. I dont give a rats backside if someone else has had the one spot for ten years every weekend. If I get there first its mine. Don't like it tough luck, build a bridge and get over it. Thats my thoughts anyway.
