Know the feeling. We have one bitch here that jumps onto a kennel then into the hydrobath everytime I walk past it. And that could be ten or twenty times a day. But she still keeps jumping in anyway.

Wont hold my breath for this one. The school cirriculum already has more in it than they have time to deliver. So something like this surely won't get a look in. Driver education classes such as in America will be brought in well before Animal care is. While I think both are worthy suggestions I doubt either will occur.

I have a bit of a problem with this particular point. With whom should the breeder be registered? If the intent is to registered with the local city council, what happens to those that live in unincorporated areas where there are no actual councils. If the intent is canine councils, you would be surprised how many members of the public are not even aware of the existence of state councils. Also if you desex all dogs not used for breeding by registered breeders what happens with registers of developing breeds. Having had a particular breed of dog from before breed recognition I can see an issue. Some state councils will not allow full rego of a breed if it is not a recognised breed. If you are involved with developing a breed to recognition how are you going to acheive the required number of generations if you have to desex the breeds foundation stock. An example, before our breed was recognised I wanted to compete in obedience trials with one of my dogs. Now the NSWCC required the dog be on limited register. Fair enough. But to put the dog on limited register required proof of desexing. So by wanting to use my dog in trials would mean removing him from the gene pool of a developing breed. Thus by following this process there won't be any opportunity to develop and obtain breed recognition for new breeds. NSW already has laws in place which are structured to encourage the desexing of non-breeding dogs through cheaper lifetime rego of the dogs. However this has had only limited success. In addition NSW law requires a percentage of dog registrations to be used by councils to provide education services and facilities. Some councils are providing the facilities (although not in our area) but I will bet you can count on the fingers of one hand how many councils are providing education on dog ownership. Furthermore if you legislate that a dog owned by a person, not a member of a particular organisation, must be desexed there is the potential for a discrimination case. The best that can be done is provide some form of encouragement to desex. Victoria also already has laws in place which if adhered to would have avoided the most recent situation. However the laws were either not followed or not enforced and as such have been rendered useless. Now if current laws can not be enforced then a thousand new laws are not going to be enforced either.

I'm looking for contact details of who transports semen throughout Australia. Does anyone know of any companies that do this and any recommendations.

Would appreciate a copy of the catalogue myself if anyone is able to send it. [email protected] Thanks

Doesn't rain here too much. When it does rain its usually wait half an hour and its gone. Did do one show away where a terrific storm rolled in half way through a show. We kept going but one of my dogs curled up between my legs in the ring so he could get under my coat and not get wet.

Its a play on words. Some refer to local council rego whereas I always use it in relation to registered with a canine council. Its a bit the same as when they say their dogs are registered. Local council verses Canine Council. Unfortunately many people are not aware of the different interpretations

The Importance Of A Kennel's Name
yarracully replied to Summersaint's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ours was a combination of things. Firstly we choose to use aboriginal words as our breed is Australian developed. Also our first of the breed was a bit of a maniac. Still is at 15 years of age so using the old boy as inspiration and Aboriginal words we came up with Yarracully Yarra in some aboriginal dialects is "companion" Cully means mad or crazy. So we have crazy companion. Should be CullyYarra but I prefer it the other way. We were lucky it was first choice as a prefix and we got it. Mind you I did do a bit of searching on the internet for it and nothing came up so I was fairly confident of getting it. -
I notice also that it is possible to fly from Adelaide to Sydney for about two hundred dollars. From where we are to fly to sydney (same state) is nearly six hundred dollars and the planes we get do not carry animals. So saying that people fly from capital city to capital city is fine but there are a lot of us that don't live in capital cities to enjoy the luxury of cheap flights. For us to go to Sydney its either a two day drive (1400 k's) or drive to Adelaide (550 k's) find somewhere to leave a car and trailer and fly to Sydney. So a trip there would be one to two days depending on seat availability. (you might be able to do it in one day but you need to be mindful of a flight curfew in Adelaide) and then there is the hassle of getting around when you arrive. Then there is also the issue of the number of dogs that will be carried on the plane. If two or three exhibitors were to fly to the same place on the same plane the airline wont guarantee that all dogs will be on the plane. And I for one will not fly anywhere unless I know for certain my dogs are on the same plane. It seems quite obvious from your statement about locality not being a handicap that perhaps you haven't travelled much around this great big land. Not everyone has everything just down the road.

I'm a little bit confused about this statement, Luvmygsd. You say you live in the country where there are only a few shows then say you only do speciality shows only. I would have thought if there weren't many shows in your area you would be supporting any shows that were on. Perhaps if you did attend more shows you would see challenges not awarded. I can remember at a royal entire breeds being refused challenges, so it does happen. As someone else already mentioned in many cases when a challenge is refused the only people aware are the judge, steward and exhibitor. We have a friend that was refused once and we didn't even know until they came back to our camp and said about it.

In regard to Tri sireing tan and white. YES. I have a litter here of your breed (altough different lines) and the sire is a tri, the dam a black and white and we have 3 black+white, 1 tri and a 1 tan and white. The very first litter we breed was a tri sire to a black and white dam and we did get a tan and white as well as two tri's. In a second mating of the same two dogs we got a tan and white and two black and whites. In another litter between a different tri male and a different black and white bitch we had four black and whites. It was the first litter we have had that didn't have any tri's or tans in it. As for dentition we have not had any problems. But then it may be that our first lot didn't have any problems so nothing was passed down. Of course it could also be that we have been lucky in that regard. So I can't really help you in that area.

Can't say I've heard of too many bulls needing to be dug up :D

BB there is a genetic test that can determine the NBT gene. We have used it on a few of our Tenterfield terriers to show a dog has not been docked.

I could be wrong but I thought the FCI would only accept one registry for purebreed dogs per country. This currently held by the ANKC. If this is true then any new organisation would have an issue with people importing and exporting dogs. So while a new registry is theoretically possible, if only one is accepted, then you could pretty well rule out imported dogs as well, I guess, any breeders that might plan to export as they will want to stay with an FCI accepted registry or they will lose value on their import/export.

Check with the police as the RTA have different rules They used to only advertise for human kids to be restrained until 12mths of age but the police had different rules This is impossible. The Police do not make any laws they only enforce them. The RTA is the body responsible for formulating laws for the politicians to pass. While certain members of the police might like to think they can make their own laws, the system prevents this. In order to provide accountability the pollies make the laws, the police enforce the laws, the courts (where necessary) issue the penalty. As such the police do not make the laws same as the judges do not go out and catch criminals.

I think you will find that the above pertains to the practice of dogs in the back of utes. Hence the referral to "On the vehicle" ETA I will agree with the no dogs on lap while driving bit. There is nothing worse than trying to avoid an accident while "fluffy" is sitting on your lap restricting your range of movement.

It really is the fact that your breed is just ignored that really grinds. I always thought that the steward had to announce class complete before calling a winner. But some don't even bother to wait. It really makes you feel that you are wasting your time being there. Especially when you could be packing up and getting on the road towards home at the end of a long weekend away and a six hour drive ahead.
-
I am not a terrier person and even I have noticed this when watching the terrier group. I've also noticed that some judges make it clear what their views on Tenterfields are while judging the breed too. Stuff like shrugging shoulders and disdainfully pointing with half their back turned. I assume it must annoy the Westie people too because they are stuck behind you in the age classes! Don't often get Westies in this part. There were a couple that showed on occassions but havent seen them around for a while. So we are usually last.

How Is An Open Show Different To Championship
yarracully replied to scolly's topic in General Dog Discussion
Open show has no points towards a dogs title. Run the same way just no points. Used to be a good way for trainee judges to get some practical experience. Not that many still have them these days. Also good for experience for new exhibitors and young dogs. -
We have a list of certain judges we will not show under. However it has nothing to do with face judging. Being a breed usually at the end of the group we have quite often been ignored for judging in group classes. Quite a few times a class winner has been called before all dogs are in the ring. So we refuse to enter under any judge that does this. The first time it happened I had just bought a dog for my neice to show as she wanted to get into showing. At her first show she was required to go in for a class in group. The judge asked the steward to send the dogs in one breed at a time and line them up on the side opposite the ring gate. When it was my neices turn to enter the ring the steward called her number and just as she was about to enter the ring the judge called a class winner. She only got one step into the ring. He never even had the decency to turn around and look at her dog. The result was she was shattered and has not returned to showing. I had to keep showing her dog for her as it was a four show weekend. End result, a new exhibitor badly burned by her first show experience and a judge who I have no respect for. Similar things have happened to me but I am the type that will stand up and say something, as anyone that knows me personally will testify. My neice being only young at the time didn't. Now we only have three local shows per year. The rest we have to travel between 3 and 6 hours each way for. So I am not going to travel that far if I don't know who the judge is in case its one that is on my blacklist.

In my opinion for those that don't think face judging occurs consider why in all the magazines (such as national dog etc) why do 99% of advertised dogs show more than just the dog in the photo. If the advert is to promote the dog then only have the dog in the photo. People like to put the handlers into the photos as a handlers face is more likely to trigger recall and a memory easier than just a dog. If you wish to promote your dog in these publications then by all means do so. But only have the dog in the photo. I personally feel that the different publications should refuse to accept any photos for printing that have more than the dog as the subject. We have only ever advertised once for a grand title and in that advert there was only the dog shown. The handler in the photo (not one of us- and has never handled any of our dogs in the ring) was deliberatley removed from the photo for the ad. I would rather my dogs get what they deserve on thier merits as a dog and as such we do not advertise our winnings etc for that very reason. Unlike those that seem to advertise at great expense in every magazine/paper/journal that you pick up.

Thinking Of Going To Red Cliffs...anyone Been Before?
yarracully replied to Shazzapug's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Shazzapug I assume you do group 1. The last groups aren't usually until after lunch so you should be right. We'll be there (as always) might catch up with you. ETA no Neuter class. Can't recall any mildura clubs having one yet FETA Just read the schedule and I see our group 2 is before 1 so if we take our time that might help you a bit. -
Hey Lindsay what happened to your Irish judging on the Tuesday. Seen the steward in a bit of a flap there for a while before you went in.

The fact that they play a significant role in creating legislation which they also enforce.Thereby a conflict of interest. No other body (either government, charitable or civil) is involved in the creation of legislation and then also participates in the enforcement of the same legislation. Police do not create legislation and government do not enforce it. As a charitable organisation they tend to have more power than other law enforcement agencies. No other enforcement body can enter premises and seize animals or property simply because they fell a crime or act of cruelty is about to happen. Police cannot arrest until after a crime has been committed. RSPCA inspectors can enforce a law before it is even broken. And they do not need to have a warrant. They are able to dictate conditions under which I can enjoy my companion animals. Due to their interference certain practices of many people have been outlawed and yet they do not have to supply any form of substantial eveidence to outlaw a practice. They always ask for donations yet most of the money recieved goes to empire and ego building. Simply look at their balance sheets. With the money they have recorded as recieved they don't need to ask for donations as much as they do. They can always find a reason to enter your property almost on a whim but then you need to fight like hell to get your animals back. Many on here would be aware of quite a few examples of this. They always claim hugely overinfalted court costs. Again recent examples on DOL The management of the organisation seems to have lost its sense of purpose and being They persecute innocent people over small trivial matters yet turn a blind eye to outright cases of abuse On a personal matter they once many years ago were boarding a dog of mine which they left tied to a fence in direct sun with no shade or water. Yet if you or I did it that would be cruelty. When the matter was raised we were brushed off with "no harm done". Maybe not but the fact remains they would prosecute you if you did the same thing. Apart from the above I simply don't support any organisation that simply rings up and asks. If they want anything from me they come to my front door and ask. But prepared to be shocked when I refuse.

Maybe eastern part of NSW but certainly not all of it. Also have only found a few in SA that use it.Mostly bigger ones such as royal though.
