Have you considered a Ridgeback?
-
Oh Jazzie . Whereabouts are you and the dogs? I'm sure something can be sorted for them quickly. Don't torture yourself. I hope things get a little easier for you as time goes on.
-
Judging starts at 9am so we will aim to get there beween 8.30 and 9. Knowing us though, it will be about 9.30 as we're due to go in the ring - we're always running late!!
-
That's us! I thought I'd just entered two until the numbers arrived... and I remembered I entered three... :D Looks like I'm washing hounds for most of tomorrow!! They've been playing in the mud for the last two weeks! Might see you there on Sunday Daisy?? The 'Zoi will need some extra cuddles!
-
The owner probably needs to know just how serious it's getting. If it attacks a meter reader or other legitimate visitor they might not be so forgiving as you.
-
Where's Poodlefan when you need her??? I haven't had them myself but have considered it as we have kids and they are a more menageable size for kids to handle than my breed (borzoi). I think they're lovely dogs.

Is it actually getting out and accessing the property you have to be on? Perhaps you can drop a letter to the owner explaining the situation and asking of it can be contained a bit better?

Could well be by the look of the ingredients list. Methinks they must have convincing sales reps!

Are Wheatbix Or Porridge Safe For A Dog?
Alyosha replied to goldee's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Porridge is tradionally used by some greyhound people. I have used it to get weight on off the track greys and it works well, but only in addition to the normal rations, not as a replacement. Made with powdered milk and a bit of gravy powder for flavour it can get weight on stubbornly thin hounds very nicely indeed. It also seems to stimulate appetite. -
Could well be the case. They are so very little and would succum to cold or sickness so fast... I'm really glad the others were found - what low lifes, to steal them!

Interesting Radio Ad From A Vet Clinic
Alyosha replied to Earthdog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Some vets don't agree with early desexing -
LOL they do lay it on a bit thick, but the do make the points they are trying to make. I do recommend though that anyone interested in a breed should also speak to people in that breed. Lines of dogs in the same breed can be very different too. Mmmm, laying it on thick is one thing, but fiction is another thing altogether! Borzoi difficult to housetrain?? I've never "housetrained" any of mine and have never had an accident. And they don't shed heavily or chase and kill small dogs etc etc... Sorry - thread hijacking! Hey Lambo. :D Good luck with your puppy hunting. I do agree with shortstep though, talk to as many long term breeders of the breeds that you're interested in as you can. That way you get broad opinions of the breed, not only of individual dogs within it. Good breeders will also match puppy personalities to potential homes, so that if they know you are after a family dog etc etc they will try and pick the pup that they think will best suit your circumstance. It is important to love the look of your chosen breed, after all that is often the first thing that attracts us to them in the first place!

Of All The Cheaper Dry Dogfoods Which Is The Best?
Alyosha replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed Coprice and like it. It's about $30 for 20kg. Mine usually have the working dog formula as the higher fat level agrees with them. But I usually feed raw bones and sometimes mince as well. Mine also won't eat Great Barko - and they're not usually fussy! I've used Supercoat with good results, except for enormous squishy poos all the time... Add more bones and that improves though. -
Our local produce store owner was telling us that this is a higher quality food produced by the normal Box 1 greyhound biscuit manufacturer. He was convinced it had been rated very highly by greyhound people, as well as other dog people. I haven't tried it and am happy with what I am feeding but it got me wondering as I hadn't heard of it before. I looked it up and the ingredients list didn't look overly amazing, with wheat and then sorghum meal as first and second ingredients . I have had box 1 biscuits sometimes for picky eaters and they are a good added extra, but I've never fed them as sole diet. Has anyone used it? Any reports? Good or bad. I'm just curious really - this guy seemed really excited about it... Maybe the Company Rep had been in talking to him?

I tried and tried to find somewhere a few years back and never did. I ended up buying one shortly after.

He will sometimes grow faster than other times. Liek growth spurts yes. Just watch his development if he does start to grow very fast. Check with Dogue breeders, but i know that some very high protien dog foods can cause rapid development in some large breeds, which is not the best. You don't want to push growth along, just let it go at it's own pace or you end up with strange stuff going on. And of course watch for any dramatic changes in legs etc which can be calcium linked. My breed are not technically classed as giant (but are bigger than some that are - go figure ) - they can grow until four or more years old. Sometimes I can look at a young one and they seem to have grown during the day! But other times they do seem to settle into a groove for a little while.

Physical Differences Between Amstaff & Apbt
Alyosha replied to GABBA's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nope and nope. Some people do essentially class them as the same dog, not technically true. They share a background. Someone more knowledgable than me on the subject will no doubt pop in and explain at length... Responsible breeders of either do not breed for fighting. ANY breed CAN be bred for fighting, if they are unfortunate enough to fall into those sorts of hands. Lots of breeds share history with other breeds. Lots of breeds came from stock designed to do things that are no longer socially acceptable. That doesn't mean that those breeds are no good at doing what they do now - being pets and companions. This is what responsible owners of any breed strive for with their dogs, whether they are pit bulls, chows or whippets (trying for some random breeds here!). -
But that is exactly what this guy did. Rangers evidently caught up with him, walking the dog offleash and caught him out as being unregistered. Enforcement is what matters.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
Alyosha replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Just sticking my head 'round the door again. Am off to do the candle thing. And will leave a pack of very extra fatty Tim Tams for those of us who like that sort of hing... xo Jed. -
IW4ME that is amazingly moving. I don't think I can even come close... I love Borzoi. I wanted them since I was a kid and I met a big red and white male who was with his owner. I walked up to meet him and he ever so gently stood up, front feet on my shoulders and gazed down into my face. Then he calmly moved back to the ground and walked away. That was it for me, no other breed has ever been so lodged in my heart. It took me 20 years to finally have my own, and they are more than I ever dreamed. More loyal and loving, more easy to live with, more devoted and gentle. And more mind numbingly beautiful. I have three, and could never be without them now. Percy - you most definitely need one. ETA - or two...

He broke the dog out and left his wife and kids behind? :D
