  1. Given their job as a badger hunter, the badgers would see the white? Sealyham Terriers may be in trouble if that was the case! Like Diva said earlier, our breed is fortunate to have all colours allowable. However under FCI standard blue and chocolate are disqualifying faults. And even our standard specifys dark eyes and eye rims dark - which should discount dilutes. It also says specifically that eyes should not be light - just in case there is any confusion! Dilutes can appear in the breed, albeit rarely. I have seen a couple of blue eyes and what appears to be dilute pigment/light eyes in others. I woudn't think a hound with dilute pigment and light eyes would be as suited to working in extremely cold climates and over snowy plains like Borzoi originally did. But then I've often wondered about blue eyes in Siberian Huskies in the same sense. Could they be prone to sun/glare damage?
  2. I have the Big W version of the OzTrail compact and also find it easy to do on my own. Great in sun and in rain. :) A couple of silver mesh sides make it even better for hot weather.
  3. Here is a list of some of the fly repellent products that are approved for use on dogs: http://services.apvma.gov.au/PubcrisWebClient/search.do;jsessionid=P1gpRGwTLQY73khWLxRnGZq4D5bBq0bZ6ddjhS79hXrJbPw4Njyy!1964679306
  4. If you don't have cats you can use Permoxin spray. If the tips of his ears are bitten and sore you can get a great cream for horses called "Septicide" which is insect repellent as well as antiseptic to help heal and soothe the sore bits. Don't use Aerogard, it will inflame any sore bits and is not for use on dogs anyway. The Baygon won't work either. You need to find an animal specific spray, try your pet or horse supplies store.
  5. Yep. He was in there only recently, and reclaimed. So fingers are all crossed that he will be again. A rescuer has an eoi on him as a back up but we are seeking some temp info to try and make an educated guess of what he needs from a foster spot. Another one was very intense and needed lengthy foster and behavioural work. Others have been laid back and easy going. So it would be nice to know whereabouts on the spectrum this boy might be!
  6. Awesome news! Congrats on your new babies. 8 is a lovey number. :)
  7. You need to read all information on flea and tick treatments very carefully. :)
  8. 1cm in a toy breed??? Even 0.5 is really something I would consider more serious than cosmetic. Is it the top jaw that's longer or the bottom? Sorry for the dumb question but sometimes people get the terms overbite and underbite confused. I too would eb worried about the timidity too - depending on how bad it was. They can go through fear periods, and sometimes have reason to fear a particular child. But it would warrant some serious questions.
  9. I guessed as much. :) Hopefully your boy will be a bit tuckered out and less likely to carry on and try and wreck gates etc this time!!
  10. And that 10 000 litres is a limited resource! Gawd here's a thought... I have four males... I might be at risk of drowning!!!
  11. Sounding positive! Fingers crossed for puppies! Oh, and I wouldn't let them just go at it either - if the tie and the bitch panics the dog could easily be injured. Yowch!
  12. My last breeding we did one mating, a 20 inute tie and had 12 pups. Yours don't sounds as if they will be likely to have fertility problems. If you want to do another late today or tomorrow you can, or you can leave it as is.
  13. Tazar my males are between 45 and over 50kg, and they have three to five cups of dry (not BH), depending on how much raw they have with it. Five cups if kibble only.
  14. Pretty daft really - the term "greeders". Shows ignorance to the fact that most breeders spend a fortune on their dogs!!
  15. A good site for brushes etc is Pet Network. You'll find them on Google. :) I love the Plush Puppy pin brushes - excellent prices but sturdy and effective.
  16. It's not only coat that changes with maturity. A young dog goes through many changes, includnig structural ones. If a breeder is knowledgeable about the bloodlines and how they grow etc, they may be making an informed guess as to how the dog will eventually look. A judge doesn't usually have that knowledge. The last time I saw a judge withholding challenges it was a European judge, and he was explaining just that. So he would say something to an exhibitor like "Lovely, and first in class, but too young for challenge." And people were happy, they could see what he was doing. In many breeds youngsters are not just smaller versions of adults. They can have front and back ends grow at different rates, chests that haven't dropped, looseness in movement etc - a whole range of things going on. They may still be great pups, and show lots of potential. But their worthiness of the title of Champion may be hard to evaluate until they get a bit more complete.
  17. Do you have a knowledgable friend or two to assist? A good studmaster sounds in order.
  18. I don't think they are any obligation to explain. Not 100% on that but I think I've seen judges refuse to enter into discussion. Most times I've seen a non award there is some exchange, and normally far less bad feeling afterwards.
  19. She looks awesome Aphra! So happy, and she's filled out so well! We can only hope that her pups prove too soft for hunting, and end up somewhere happier, or even back at the pound. It's such a worry that they were all females though. Hate to think of them as breeding machines like their mum was.
  20. Fingers really crossed all works out ok JAJ.
  21. And be mindful that ponds - even temporary ones like clamshells left out for dogs - are a great attraction.
  22. Oh Nic. I know you and your mum will be devastated. Thinking of you guys. They just didn't want to be apart.
  23. Sorry if this is a repeat as I haven't read all of tha last few pages. But if they are soliciting donations and not appearing to use those funds for the purpose claimed, can they be reported to the ACCC? If they hold a 16D yet the regulatory body for that (is that the DPI?) can't act under their legislation, maybe the ACCC can - or at least advise on what to do? They do look at scams and false charities I think.
  24. I hope all works out. I have seen a bitch have black/green discharge for two days prior to whelping and all pups were born alive and healthy. So hopefully yours will manage the three days and pups are ok.
  25. People don't need more laws, they need a little more common sense.
