I have to disagree with Jed here, this pup does not sound up to travelling, and will be in eligible for air travel. Grommit it sounds like you have a good breeder onside, perhaps it will be best for you to stay in touch with them and your vets, and make decisions based on vet's advice and the circumstances each day. Little animals like your pup can go up or down dramatically very quickly so playing it by ear may be best, so long as you have a good trust level with your vet. Could pup have a foreign body causing a bleed internally? Has she been chewing anything she shouldn't have? Fingers crossed all works out soon.

Is giving off-label recommendations, over the phone - for veterinary use of human medications - part of being a "country vet" now?

There would be lots more minimax as many exhibitors don't use the pointscore system. I have seen quite a few (on FB) that are not on that link - although I wasn't at the shows.

Yes foxes remove only the head all the time. They will drink the blood and that's it. Sometimes the head is found and sometimes not. Grisly...

Lifesize Greyhound Statue Wanted - Any Ideas?
Alyosha replied to gapvic's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'll pop into the carpet place in the next few days and see what's there. -
Are they sure? I'm not meaning any disrespect at all. But wild birds are not that easy to get close to - and unless they have been shot or brought down somehow first it would be hard for anyone to decapitate them. I have attended sites where people have been convinced that wild waterfowl have been killed by person/s cutting their heads off, and have confirmed each time that it was predation.

Lifesize Greyhound Statue Wanted - Any Ideas?
Alyosha replied to gapvic's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sometimes you see them in furniture/home decorating sort of shops. I saw a lovely whippet sized one recently in the window of our local carpet place. They are normally sitting, but I have seen Grey sized ones. Possibly garden places too? -
Foxes kill poultry by decapitation - even swans.

Will be interesting to see how you go Sas. My young male still has a stranger danger streak with some judges.

Have you checked in different lights? She wasn't sitting with brighter light on one side of her face was she? Otherwise, could she have hit her head? If they are still different in the same light I would be away to a vet.

Media aren't always known for using actual photos - stock ones are pretty common. Seeing as none of us know what information the actual complaints consisted of it's pretty useless to jump to critical conclusions.

Providing Assistance To Bitch During Whelping
Alyosha replied to Pockets's topic in Breeders Community
I assist too. I catch and clean pups as they come out, and tie off and disinfect cords. As my breed are tall pups can really plumment if mum leaps up in fright with a strong contraction, or births standing up. Likewise I've seen mums be over enthusiastic with cords, not necessarily pulling and herniating but chewing them right off too short and causing bleeding and wounds that are hard to deal with. It is unusual in my breed for a bitch to have more than one litter in her lifetime so inexperienced mums are more the norm. In big litters it also assists to keep already born pups out of mum's way while she's still labouring as she is much much bigger than them and moving around in labour can easily lead to squashed pups, or distressed mum trying to lie down and avoid them. -
Several AVA investigations and imposed sanctions over recent years have been published in the media as well. Nothing mentioned here is known about through private dealings. Off label use of something like Nurofen should be done under prescription and not over the phone anyway. How many human GPs would prescribe off label use of anything over the phone? And who would speak out in support of them if they did? Like SSM says - people need to find a balance between what is affordable and what is reasonable. You get what you pay for sometimes...
-
There is good reason the other local vets are not remotely in support here. This is not a one off example of incompetence or negligence here.
-
The AVA need to be involved. Yet again.

Petition Asking For The Rspca To Be Made Accountable
Alyosha replied to Perry's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well said Diva. I agree wholeheartedly. -
I thought that too Nic - but I think BC Crazy mean the OP had another thread going about Roo?
-
Most Greyhound rescues will have dogs that have been in foster or temp care for a while, and will certainly try to match any fosters with your situation. If Roos' reaction is a bit of an unknown quantity, maybe take it one step at a time and meet up with some Greyhound foster carers so Roo can meet some hounds to start with.

Black Salve For Dogs Cats And Horses
Alyosha replied to GeckoTree's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The dodgy skin cancer (and other cancers) cure. It has herbs in it like Cansema and Bloodroot. But it also usually contains the toxic chemicals DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) and Zinc Chloride. And if they are natural remedies then I'm a small furry mammal. That is why it's illegal. Not because it's suppressing some miracle cure, but because some chumps without scientific basis have added corrosive chemicals to "allow the herbs to penetrate"... Nasty. -
Black Salve For Dogs Cats And Horses
Alyosha replied to GeckoTree's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Black Salve is not registered by the TGA or APVMA. Any supply of it for human or animal use is an offence. It's toxic, corrosive and dangerous. Why anyone would subject their animals to such dangerous things is beyond me. http://www.tga.gov.au/consumers/information-salve-cansema.htm edit - add link. -
Stay warm and dry folks! Last year these shows were freezing but fantastic. I'll miss all the locals - will be at Erskine Park - but hope you all have a great day.

RSPCA Australia have been anti BSL for years and years - possibly since the beginning of it. Some individuals (Hugh Wirth springs to mind) have made public statements to the contrary, but these statements have been against the policy of the National Board. RSPCA being anti BSL is far from a new thing or a sudden change of heart. http://kb.rspca.org.au/What-is-the-RSPCAs-position-on-breed-specific-legislation_497.html

Just a quick note for people in the Sydney area. On 15th June Dogs NSW will hold their annual "Dogs on Show". http://dogsnsw.org.au/activities-a-events/events/231-dogs-on-show.html As well as various activities, displays and an All Breeds Show; there will be numerous breed information and display stands, and a colourful Pageant of Breeds - with handlers in costume. Should be a great day for dog folk and potential dog folk to get together and have some fun.
-
I think that is a NSW thing as there have been some disputes over it. Other states may not have had the same recent problems.

Ugh. Straighteners on borzoi coats. Lets not forget the standard says coat, "silky, flat, wavy or somewhat curly, but never woolly." So why on earth do people feel the need to use straighteners on it?? And excessive scissoring makes for blunt ends to hairs, losing some of that silky texture that is so vital. Same with sticky or stiff product. Yuck.
