Thanks for all the replies -it helps just to talk about it. Yes she is still aggressive and unpredicable when on high levels of pain killers. We have already had one incident when she lashed out at another dog for no reason and I felt dreadful and I of course paid the vet bill for the puncture wounds on the other dog. My real concern is that she is a big dog and may one day really injure another or even a person and then I would never forgive myself. The vet has also suggested a opiate based pain killer but that also causes other problems.

My dogs are both retch failures my Lappie "talks" about it but doesn't bring the ball back rather she will grab it and trott off in the other direction. Now my little Siamese is totally focused and will play fetch for hours

Hi all - I feel I need some advice about our wolfie x BC (well thats the vets guess) She is now 6 years old and we have had her since she was 18months. Early last year she started being unable to jump into the back of the car and limped occasionally. Xrays showed severe hip dysplasia and she underwent an FHO on the worst hip. She has always been a bit unpredicable in temperament and has shown occasional aggression to other dogs and doesn't like her back legs being handled. She has snapped at people a couple of times. My vet said that she would have been in considerable pain for some time and was protecting her rear end. The first vet I took her to said she was snappy because of the BC in her. She is now on pain killers and carprofen but our problem is that if the other hip is operated on will the aggression disappear or is it inbedded with her now. We can only take her for very short walks with minimum running. I really do not believe in keeping an animal alive if it is in pain and has a low quality of life. Our vet is leaning towards PTS and I am really confused as to what to do. She is a great dog and we love her dearly but............. has anyone else had experience with aggression and pain ?

My Lappie loves water too -so I found a very heavy ceramic bowl at a garden centre that lives under the tap and she also has a kids shell pool that she paddles in (especially after going for a walk).

Great protector cat

Very cute photos "I've found a toy" and this is the toys owner not looking happy

I haven't read through this threas but my Lappie really amazed me the other day. Lappies are know to be loving gentle submissive dogs and mine is certainly all that -her nickname is " Love-bunny" I took her to the local dog park and there were only a couple of other dogs there -she made friends straight away (as usual) and started running around with a very big young retriever. I was talking to the retrievers owner and not really watching the dogs -the retriever run full belt into me and knocked me over. My Lappie instantly started vocally telling him off and was so forceful that he backed under a bench with her still yelling at him. So I feel much safer now with my vocal Lappie protector dog.

I think the fines are rather heavy handed and over the top especially when someone can be fined $1000 for reckless driving that has caused serious injury.

I agree with all that has been said already -especially re fussy websites with lots of things moving around the screen and music -really dislike them. What I do really like is photos of the breeder/s with some of their dogs. Then I have an idea of who I am talking too when I make contact. And photos of past litters in their new homes with little comments from the new owners. Also approx price because most people have no idea that a pedigree dog can cost $$$$$$$$$$$$

He s very cute and look at those big feet ! -
Thats funny -love Echo -we have a mandarine tree and Jaana always "picks" them and she also peels them and eats the insides.

And if it was me with my super friendly Lappie I would have taken her over to him to say "hello" and given a little talk about dogs. However if it had been me with my nervous reactive Wolf x I would have run a mile.

check out the spitz thread - Miss B owes one

Once she learned to stop pulling, did you switch back to a regular collar? Yes but only down hill or on the flat
-
Must be a spitz thing -my Lappie sat and had a massive howl when I put the easy walk harness on her Haha, I was planning to get one of these for my Samoyed, Buffy. Not sure if she'll have a hissy-fit too. Once she got over the initial shock it worked really well and she stopped pulling - then I realised that I actually need her to pull me up our very steep street

I have a wolfie x and she is quite small only weighs 30 kgs and is about the size of a male dalmatian

Big wet stuff... falls from the sky? Ringing any bells? Haven't seen it for a long time although supposedly happened in some SA areas yesterday. Maybe it is a spitz thing Jaana loves doing zoomies in the rain too - not that it happens here often And I have to remind her that she is a dog not a cat -I have never seem a dog bat and paw toys the way she does. She also loves being stroked from head to tail like a cat"""""""""""

i don't think that would even fit my " large" cat

We use Blackwood Vet Surgery and are really happy with them.

Can Anything Be Done To Keep Cats Away?
sparkycat replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cats don't like the smell of cloudy amnonia or citronella - both will deter them -
Yes I got one for my Lappie when she was young. The main reason was because collars slipped over her huge furry neck. The harness was good for her and she walked nicely in it and it did stop her pulling. She has settled down now and doesn't try and back out of her collars.

Our old GSD X was attacked by a BC when she was young and for the rest of her life she hated BCs with a passion -she could spot one across a huge sports oval and off she would go. Even though she is no longer with us I still have a BC "watch" going
