A couple of Lappies did the walk in Adelaide
-
I was told to only feed dry at Puppy School but it was by the Hills rep of course. I then asked my vet and they said a mix of dry, meat, bones and vegies was the best. IMO if your dog is happy, healthy, the correct weight and does nice poos then a mixed diet is fine. I really don't like the idea of dry only diet for dogs or cats. My Lappie likes to supplement with the occassional morsel from the cat tray

Jaana will be there with my son and although I have a cat show I will try and get there. I think the Million Paws Walk is a nice friendly event to meet lots of lovely dogs and owners. I will be on the look out for any DOLers.

It is a great idea but I think a couple of my cats are smart enough to out how to walk through under/with the dog

Unfortunately I can't help until after the weekend (interstate funeral) but if there is anything I can do Monday onwards please ask - I can help anyone who is fostering -walking, feeding, grooming etc.

Oh dear - poor poodie hope she recovers fast. Our deerhound managed to "lean" 3 family members through our back windows over a 2 year period. Luckily house insurance covered the breakages and we replaced the windows with toughened glass and no blood was spilt.

She is a Finnish Lapphund Snap - Minxy ! Ah, thank you. I don't run into Finnish Lapphunds every day so please excuse Souff for not doing homework. You are excused

Does Anyone Else Miss Being Able To Buy White Bed Linen?
sparkycat replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have the same problem but its the cats not the dogs :D -
And the majority of Australians live in urban areas 70-80% and our working dogs are mainly sheep and cattle herders that are not a docked breed. I haven't yet heard of a pack of working corgis, poodles, rotties etc but you never know they may well be out there.
-
It just goes to show that they are flexable and open-minded and can adapt to change - pity some Australians can't
-
Hi Elina , tails are not actually crucial for balance, otherwise all those docked doggies would be constantly falling over, and they just don't. To OP, I am getting used to tails, but still love the look of the docked dogs I see out there. Not many left now though. Damn, it's really hard to express myself with foreign language. But not are four legs crucial either. I have seen many dogs walking and running very well with three legs. Anyhow, what i try to say, is that there is a reason why (most) dogs born with tails. And reasons why most in this thread are saying they don't like tails are not because they are afraid the tail will get hurt, it's because it doesn't look good. Elina, taildocking was finally banned in this country on the basis of lies and fierce lobbying by all the worlds saviours, all those people who in most cases wanted to feel uplifted by having a "cause " to pursue. Tail docking or tail banding is not cruel. this has been proven with out doubt, whether people like yourself believe it or not, when done at the correct time and by banding, not cutting. Medical evidence is available to prove this statement ask the nz. government for one. Myself like many australians are getting sick and tired of being dictated to by ill informed politicans who are only interested in getting re elected with the help of the fringe dwellers of society who overall contribute very little meaningful things to our life style I by no means advocate any thing that would hurt any of my animals, tail banding does not. The banding methods used for tails is still being used on a daily basis in most hospitals world wide ,for extra fingers, toes etc check it out . Sorry I disagree - in my experience the general public was uncomfortable about tail docking long before the ban came in. In the 60's and 70's a close family who was a vet refused to dock. Yesterday I watched the most beautiful boxer complete with tail bounce around - it was pure elegance and balance - my friend said my mouth dropped open and I drooled and I am not normally a boxer type person.

How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?
sparkycat replied to Elenbah's topic in General Dog Discussion
When we started looking for another dog a couple of years ago I had no idea of the prices - we fell in love with a particular breed and then found out the price I must admit that I was really shocked as our previous dogs had been rescues or non pedigrees. I have since found out that the price we paid was very reasonable for that breed. -
Well I don't want you to get your hopes up but Jaana only "matured" and got a brain at about 2 ! I thought the males were quieter ? Sorry don't know anything about IBD and diet
-
Some Lappies can be and are very "talkie" My Jaana has a lot to say about everything and she was very vocal and excitable in the first 12 months or so. Please come into the Spitz thread and post some photos !

Our deerhound was diagnosed with bone cancer in his front leg . After a lot of thought and research we went ahead with amputation - he was not quite 5 years old. He was good after surgery and walked well and he was still able to run at full speed. However he did seem to miss his leg. When the dressings were removed I hit on the idea of putting an old t-shirt on him mainly so humans weren't upset at the sight - the t-shirt seemed to comfort him and he loved it and wore one until the end. I think the main problem is that once bonecancer becomes obvious in a limb the desease has usually progressed to internal organs usually the lungs. It is also a very aggressive and painful type of cancer. Mungo lived for almost 6 months after amputation. I still don't know if we did the best for him. His favourite t-shirt was printed with "trust me I'm a vegetarian" He loved his straw "nest"

Our deerhound don't have any of the classic doggy smell. -

If I was you I would phone Adelaide airport and get a clear answer. I have collected both a kitten and pup from the freight terminal at Adelaide on Saturday but they have flown on there own and I should add that both times the staff were fantastic and very helpful.
