  1. In your phone, type ICE (in case of emergency) into your contacts. Emergency service workers know to look these up. For those that say their family knows what to do, have they actually agreed to it? A lot of people would think they're doing you a favour by rehoming the dogs if you were going to be in hospital fir a long time.
  2. My mini does that and has no separation anxiety at all: "the lady with the nomz is home!"
  3. If she's a bit shy lots of praise can actually be seen as a punishment - it is too overwhelming. Try happy but calm praise - "goooood girl".
  4. She could be in pain and patting is hurting her. I'd get a full vet check first. If all is okay, given that you're about to have a baby, I'd call in professional help (a qualified behaviourist, not some wanna-be dog whisperer).
  5. People shouldn't make claims against a business without backing it up. All this inuendo can ruin a business.
  6. Glad your mind is at ease. If I saw a large heavy object being swooped by my head I might duck too!
  7. What is the conflicting info? If you've heard it directly from them then surely they know better than Internet randoms?
  8. Don't tell the boys about the "use it or lose it" concept ellz....
  9. I wonder if the semen quality reduces as they age, like humans. I also wonder if there is a greater chance of birth defects (although, as semen is produced "on demand", I believe age isn't an issue like it is for ovums).
  10. whether or not there is a contract could be immaterial. Even for a pet dog, she has sold "goods" that are not fit for purpose. In they eyes of consumer law, dogs are the same as whitegoods. But they would still need a receipt or some proof of purchase... I have a gut feeling that the OP doesn't have one....I hope I am wrong Maybe the OP could enquire with their state body of ANKC to see what has been submitted if at all by the breeder. unless they paid a wad of cash they'd have an internet banking transfer statement or similar

  12. There is a cruelty section for news like this - please use it. Not everyone likes reading about these cases.
  13. How big are these dogs? She might be scared. She's at an age when many dogs don't want to play with other, random dogs. Personally I wouldn't put such a small dog in this situation. She is feeling threatened and it is your job to protect her- otherwise shell try TP do it herself and, given her size, she could come off second best. If she were mine I'd find a few small, well behaved dogs and have private play dates with them.
  14. I dint get the raw patties thing either - especially since billinghurst says raw meaty bones are best. How else are the dogs getting calcium? The only mince that I know that has bones in it is per chicken mince. Human grade mince has no bones at all. If you have their food minced up you don't get the benefits re: teeth cleaning either. I feed a combination of raw meaty bones and premium dry. Simple.
  15. He could be in pain - either an injury or your nails are digging into him etc.
  16. I thought in schuyzhund they ran until the end of the field (visual cue = fence), they span around and dropped without a command at all?

  18. Do you want a guard dog or a watch dog - a watch dog will bark and scare someone off, but a guess dog will seal the deal. It sounds like you want a watch dog, but your title suggest otherwise. Any large dog would scare most people, so I'd look for a dog that has the attributes I want ro live with.
  19. If you want to enter ANKC trials then you have to use English commands apparently.
  20. There are a few good foundation DVD's on cleanrun - Moe Stempel (sp?) has one. For my next dog, I'm planning on doing foundations from 8 weeks to about 18 months to 2 years, all without much equipment work
  21. There is a whippet puppy for sale on Melbourne gumtree. They've had it for 3 weeks but now don't have the time or space for it...
  22. Tehy just seem popular at the moment - along with Frenchies. They used to be a rare sight, but not any more.
