  1. Thanks. Another question: Where do people get their shade cloth (aluminet) from? I can get it from cleanrun and, given the amount of stuff I buy from there the shipping won't be too great - so it will be about $60 per cloth. Is this reasonable? What size do people get (2.4m is just over 7 ft 10 in and the next size up is 7 ft 12 in).
  2. yes. But in Sydney you obviously need a working spot to bring your dog. They're looking for a range of dogs, but want sports dogs (ie trained at a decent level of OB or agility) too. ETA: My understanding of the sports dog criteria is more about having dogs that understand how to train/problem solve, are engaged, focused and their owners have a communication system with them.
  3. Thanks for the deal info sway - I just need to know your name IRL!
  4. Thanks. It it sounding like a winner. I also like the look of the gaze-pro ones but they seem to have very mixed reviews.
  5. I'm looking for a gazebo or shade solution for when I trial/go to seminars. I know there are a lot of threads on this topic, but I'm after one that meets my requirements, which are: * Be able to be assembled by one (uncoordinated) person. This is my primary requirement and a bit of a non -negotiable. I'll be on my own and I don't want to have to rely on the kindness of strangers, especially since they'll all have their own stuff to set up. * Light weight - I get a sore back easily and don't have a show trolley to lug everything around in. * Size wise, smaller is better. I'm not one of those people with tables and platters out etc. It will be me and one, maybe two small dogs with a chair. * It must allow the breeze to flow. I have the silver puppy mesh sides already. * Price wise, I'll pay what I need to pay, but I'm not looking for something to last me for 10 years. I might trial and hate it! Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!
  6. I don't like off leash dogs to rush my very well behaved, social dog. That is the way to create reactive dogs.
  7. I suggest contacting Steve from K9Pro. I have a muzzle for Lucy but we barely use it (she doesn't react unless someone is on her head!). I really used it for my peace of mind - I could relax more and deal with threats better when I wasn't worried about a fight. Steve has a program for getting the dog to accept the muzzle which you get when you buy a muzzle from them. He can also advise the best one. I have a jafco plastic one. I cut a hole in front so I can still feed treats to reward good behaviour.
  8. It is one thing to say that suing is expensive (yes it is, agree there) but it is another thing to suggest (superciliously?) that she gets a lifetime discount from the person that killed her dog. How about you just drop it? This thread is here to support Cazstaff in her grief, not to show off your apparent legal prowess. PS I'm sick and tired of people that do the ol' "so and so warned me about DOL" thing when they aren't greeted with kisses and cuddles. This is not a mandatory forum.
  9. Love it. When I get a toy poodle I'm going to call him frank.
  10. Try contacting Steve from k9 pro ( or pm huski on this forum, she works for Steve and responds really quickly). If he's too far from you he should be able to recommend someone.
  11. Especially since it sounds like normal puppy stuff? Fergus used to stalk and pounce, so we trained a recall game and I could interior this behaviour instantly. This is the kind of thing a good trainer will teach you.
  12. I am so sorry for your loss. Please don't blame yourself. My guys get dropped off at the groomers every six weeks - it is just routine for us and I would be horrified if the Groomer was that negligent. Please let us know if you need anything
  13. I agree with minimax - get some one on one help with a qualified trainer. If you let us know where you are we can suggest someone. You want someone who understands that socialization isn't about meeting every dog, but learning to act appropriately around dogs and even ignore them when required.
  14. Derrett's "great dog shame about the handler" might be perfect for him then? I have a copy I'm happy to lend out.
  15. If the Sydney workshop was in Melbourne I'd be there in a flash! Unfortunately I have other seminars on in Feb and I just can't afford the extra cost and time off work.
  16. Completely ignore him. If you engage it could make things worse. He has no case - just make sure it stays that way!
  17. You could contact Advance Dog Skills Australia. I do tracking training with them once a month. We use Uta Bindel's method (ground disturbance?) which takes a very, very long time to train but once they've got it they don't move their heads up!
  18. They dint need any water DC. I bought two yesterday and they are pretty good. Mine won't sleep on a wet surface do these are ideal
  19. Homeart have ones on sale for $40. They have a non toxic foram/gel in them. I bought some today and the dogs have used them already - they have refused to go near the ones that you wet in the past. I also bought a human cooling mat (same as the dog ones) and theyare really effective.
  20. Yes huski - we really need another word for socialization because owners have interpreted it in the human sense!
  21. Thanks - those look good too. They're on cleanrun so I'll check the postage. I might get both sorts as my dogs are picky about what surface they lie on.
  22. The second vet might have suggested a heartworm test? If they give a heartworm tablet to a dog with heartworm then your dog could very well die.
  23. When you have a sick DA dog, having a dog approach you off lead in a confined space puts your dog, their dog and you at risk.
  24. ...and delete this thread. Pretty sure in most states your dog can be declared dangerous for attacking native wildlife.
  25. I'm planning on (finally) trialling Fergus this year, and maybe even Miss Lucy given she has been on fire the last month. My dogs hate the heat and I won't trial if it is over 30 degrees. However, I'd still like to keep them cool when it is below that temp. What is the best cool mat you've tried (already got cool reflective coats, fan with ice insert, puppy mesh to reflect sun off crate...)? Has anyone tried these: http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1989 Thanks in advance!
